I think they are just going to put in on ST plays etc for a few weeks and let him get up to game speed. He is just starting to participate in practices this week correct?
The only thing I ever hear about Jones is that his strength is bad. So if we're going to replace Wells, it should be Person if Barnes can't go. A weakened, oft injured C who's never seen the field in any way in the NFL starting against the SB champs? I sincerely hope not.
A guy who hasn't been on the field in what, a year and a half....you want him making line calls vs Seattle? That's asking for disaster.
Lets see if the guy can get up to speed and not get injured for a week first. At some point he will get in. Figuring in his rust and returning from a couple of injuries, I don't expect a ton initially. Once he gets in I think you ride out the season with him to decide if he is your C going forward or if you look in FA.
Me thinks that Mike Person is the most probable OL'er who will see the field if something happens to our starting center Wells in this game. With Davin Joseph & Mike Person healthy and ready to play in ST's or JUMBO packages are our 6th & 7th OL'ers for this game.
I consider it highly unlikely that Barrett Jones will be needed other than an active emergency #8 OL'er today. In truth timing is everything with our main back up center Tim Barnes for the last two years injured...& our aged WEAKENED struggling starting center Scott Wells barley hanging on....Its Barrett Jones time to ceased this opportunity ASAP.
