Very interesting to hear who we may see subbed in to play Hoecht's position in the cheetah package. If its who she's alluding to, im down with it.

Thinking Young, no?

Young at Hoecht-backer role and it sounds like they've been experimenting with someone from the interior at the edge: Davis, Turner, hard to think they want to move Fiske from next to Verse but possibly him. We saw them doing it with Desjean in the preseason.

Hoecht was OLB/Edge, no? Isn't that what Young plays already?
Sounds to me like maybe they're looking at Murchison or Desjuan at OLB/Edge for pass rush.
I would lean Desjuan as he has a pretty good rep as a pass rusher.
Sounded like Jourdan was pretty obviously hinting they're NOT looking at Stewart or Brendan Jackson for this.
I was hoping Stewart could be the cheetah guy.

She was referring to when Hoecht played off the ball LB as he did in a number of 5-man rush schemes.

36 min in for Jourdan on Rams, Alaric, Stafford, Garrapolo, Adams, Corum, 12 personnel, Higbee, Coby, Ferguson and McVay wanting all the backups so the offense can function the way he wants it. Oh and the defense, who's in the Michael Hoecht role, talk about the back 7!

Fantastic listen. Dare I say must listen. So many answers to topics we've had about offense.

So this is where someone got the idea that Cam Curl may be in trouble. Maybe they should have mentioned it was from this podcast.

Im thinking Young considering that's the side Hoecht would constantly rush from. Desjean was who I figured they'd try out at that position, but Jourdan makes it sound like Young.

Yup, hard to think it's not Young given how she phrased things. And sounds like there's been an interior guy they've been trying at end but that's gonna be one of the starters or main backups, prob not Desjean as if he had that role they would have kept him out.

That line from her sure felt thin but I guess maybe it implies that one of the young guys could take his role.

The Hoecht role hint was great other than she emphasized a more veteran and experienced player. Most our starters and primary role players are in their 3rd year or less. Murch is about the only experienced vet beyond 3 years that I can think of.

I think Young has good raw tools to drop and move a bit. But zone blitzing has been around a while and all, just a matter of who you do it with.

The way teams are going to be in a damn panic facing our starting front, or should be that is, it's a good thing that the Rams are planning on ways to move them around and get matchups they want. Looking forward to seeing what Shula's been cooking in all those meetings.

Yeah thought it was interesting she said he's looking to steal from MacDonald and Minter and not just do Fangio things.

She hinted that a regular rusher at edge would move into the Hoecht-backer role. To me that says Young. She did say they were experimenting then with who would rush from the edge to replace him. Maybe it could be Murch there as she seemed to say that one of the experiments was moving a guy out from the interior to edge.

One thing MacDonald has done is breaking pre-snap reads up for different layers of his defense. Gives you a better chance to be in the right look. He cooked it up in college then brought it to the Ravens, and there's a good chance the league will adopt his concepts, so Shula is looking in the right direction. :thumbsup1:

Young makes the most sense because of his speed and pursuit ability.. Just has a little more flexibility in that role than anyone else on the roster, imo.
Also.. he's not the most refined pass rusher.. so moving him into positions where he can just lean on his athleticism in the pass rush would make sense.

Coud be, I just don't think of a 3rd year player as an experienced vet which Jourdan mentioned as the player in the Hoecht role of the Cheetah package. but it is all hearsay at this point so who knows
