Always possible but I think from his past discussions about the position it's mostly running the scout team and giving the starter days off during the week. Not sure how much value he puts in the position. Most all teams if the starter goes down the season is done. The Niners this year could have changed it but he seems to stick to his preferences on players fairly well.Definitely an option but how nice would it be to have a hand-picked one on the roster with a year or two sitting behind Stafford under his belt?

Drafting a backup QB probably more my preference than his. I'll hold out hope, but he did roll into last season with Wolfy and Perkins so you're probably right.Always possible but I think from his past discussions about the position it's mostly running the scout team and giving the starter days off during the week. I dont think Mason Rudolph gives the team more than a mid round rookie, and he will likely cost a lot more as well. Look at what Hoyer got from the Raiders, 2.2 mill per year on a 2 year deal, guaranteed.Easy way, you sign a guy like Mason Rudolph for a year or two as backup then blow up the position when Stafford retires.
Yeah, the WR/TE core will change quite a bit over the next 4 years, you need to have a guy with a grip of the offense able to work with the depth guys. Having a guy for 4 years who will cost pennies provides a lot more to the team outside of game playAgree, except for QB. Don't see any way they don't draft a career backup type. Some decent ones in this draft and the cost of a mid to late round pick makes the draft the way to go to acquire one.
Mid round rookie also costs a draft pick which is somebody they can develop in that year or two that would potentially contribute more long term than a possible backup QB. Give me DB's OL or pass rushers in round 3-5 which is what I'm talking about in the mid rounds and maybe Tune or Haener in the 6th/7th at best. Even then in the 7th I'd rather guys that can contribute on special teams.I dont think Mason Rudolph gives the team more than a mid round rookie, and he will likely cost a lot more as well. Likely get a 5th-6th round QB for the same money although it will be for 4 years not 2
THEN blow up the position when/if retires.
Just my .02
I look at what McVay says and does with the roster when I'm looking at free agency and the draft. I make a mockery of it but McVay has done nothing in his history to indicate we're going to add a fullback.Drafting a backup QB probably more my preference than his. From most list's I've read 3 positions haven't been met with per reports. Safety ILB and Punter.I think I am going to follow @8to12 as he communicated Jourdan Rodrigue reported that the Special Teams Coaches will not be hanging out in the draft room because the Rams are going to be focused on positional players only come draft. So with that information.
Kicker & Punter and as for a position they have 11 picks I guess I will go Safety as they have not met with any safeties and they drafted two last year because they currently only have 3 ILB's on the roster.
That is correct I read that article too again hard to believe they will pass on Safety & you communicated ILB, which is most likely and then they will sign a ILB like Hummel last year, but I am going Safety because you went ILB and I thought that would balance it out. From most list's I've read 3 positions haven't been met with per reports. And my draft crush/sleeper pick is a safety tooThat is correct I read that article too again hard to believe they will pass on Safety & you communicated ILB, which is most likely and then they will sign a ILB like Hummel last year, but I am going Safety because you went ILB and I thought that would balance it out.
My guy is Dorian Williams ILB Tulane as I believe he could plug & play with Jones. And my draft crush/sleeper pick is a safety too
Daniel Scott S Cal would be so good as a center fielder back there. My guy is Dorian Williams ILB Tulane as I believe he could plug & play with Jones.
I like that, Lord knows Rams have needed somebody like Scott for a while.Daniel Scott S Cal would be so good as a center fielder back there.
This year is notoriously bad for safety in the draft. It's prob only worth looking at some UDFA there. That is correct I read that article too again hard to believe they will pass on Safety & you communicated ILB, which is most likely and then they will sign a ILB like Hummel last year, but I am going Safety because you went ILB and I thought that would balance it out.
The Rams have Jordan (every joint in my body is inflamed) Fuller, Quentin Lake and Russ Yeast at Safety. Who is the 4th one?Nah. They have 4 on the roster and history shows they don't prioritize the S position. And they shouldn't, it's also a low value position.
No such thing IMO and we could use an upgradeNah. They have 4 on the roster and history shows they don't prioritize the S position. And they shouldn't, it's also a low value position.
