In addition I also blame the gameplan. Ran all 11 personnel the entire game? Again no plan B. Wtf mcVay
McVay, for all his great traits, has a little Martz in him.
Mad Mikes game plans either meant....31 + point or an all day struggle as he had a hard time adjusting in game and getting away from his early approach.

Jourdan manages to do a very rare thing here.....she actually asks good questions.
Im sure any player appreciates questions that actually have a some insight to them as opposed to the typical idiotic "how do you feel about (insert)" questions.
He gave great answers that gave insight to process and the group element of the OL.
Great interview!!
I can confirm what he said....315 can feel like a bunch of bricks....haha.
Really looking forward (without crazy expectations) to seeing how he does this week and going forward.

Allen comes back, Shelton shift to LG and Anchrum locks down LG due to excellent play.......sounds good to me.
I still hope for Edwards to improve as remember when they played the Vikings they actually moved Edwards to LT and Shelton to LG before the injury to Allen. However, Edwards was not good against Buffalo and needs to up his game that's for sure.

Re reading what you highlighted I like how I typed LG twice.....time for another cup of coffee.
Edwards has been a steady guy overall for the Rams.
He certainly has some good qualities and is a good player. He was so bad vs Buffalo I wondered out loud to the people I was watching with if he was injured.
I have faith in the Rams coaches, OL coach, OC and McVay for an improved performance.
I have less faith in Morris.......he gets in this soft zone mode which drives me crazy.
I am looking forward to seeing what Anchrum does on Sunday.
If he plays well it really does secure the Rams interior depth.
Ever forward.

Matthew Stafford contributed to pass protection issues in Week 1

How “Percentage of Pressure Turned into Sacks” shows there is more to blame than the O-line
By JB Scott Sep 14, 2022

It was a disappointing season opener for the Los Angeles Rams - they were handily defeated by the Buffalo Bills 31-10. While the defense forced three turnovers in the first half and kept the game at a 10-point tie, quarterback Matthew Stafford and the offense could not sustain much momentum.

The Los Angeles offensive line struggled in pass protection for most of the game. Left tackle Joseph Noteboom enters the 2022 season as the full-time starter for the first time in his career, though he was bested by his former teammate Von Miller. David Edwards had the overall worst performance along the OL - and he’s been an up-and-down player over the course of his Rams career.

These struggles resulted in Stafford being under pressure on 19 of his 50 drop backs (38%), per tracking by Pro Football Focus (PFF). Performance under pressure is very volatile for NFL quarterbacks - and for most passers it is immensely detrimental relative to their play in a clean pocket. Pressure rates between 40-50% of drop backs or greater create an environment where it’s next to impossible for the quarterback to be successful.

Take Kyler Murray’s performance in the 2021 wildcard game for example. He was pressured on 15 of 37 drop backs (40.5%), which resulted in his third-worst game of the season in the playoffs when it mattered the most. The pressure by Aaron Donald, Von Miller, and others become too much for Murray to overcome - and it forced him in to bad decisions throughout that game.

It’s not overly surprising that Stafford threw three interceptions while under pressure on more than 1 out of every 3 drop backs, though it is surprising that he took sacks (7 total) on 36.8% of these pressures - the fourth-worst mark among all QB’s in Week 1 behind the likes of Mac Jones (50%), Derek Carr (45.5%), Cooper Rush (40%) and tied with Joe Burrow according to PFF.

While pressures are a OL-driven statistic, sacks mostly fall on the quarterback. Today’s passers are so adept at maneuvering the pocket and either finding ways to dump the ball off quickly or using their mobility to extend plays. Two of the best young signal callers in the NFL are on the opposite end of the “percentage of pressures turned into sacks” spectrum - Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert were pressured 17 and 15 times, respectively, but weren’t sacked a single time.

If Stafford knew his offensive line was outmatched versus an aggressive Bills defensive line, why did he not strive to get the ball out as quickly as possible? His “time to throw” mark in this game was roughly the same as his season average from a year ago - 2.52 seconds vs. 2.66. Why did Sean McVay not scheme up screens to the running backs or get Stafford out of the pocket on designed rollouts?

It’s understandable that the Rams would want to head into this game with the expectation their offensive line could handle Buffalo’s pass rush straight up - but the lack of adjustments once they were overwhelmed prevented the offense from being successful in Week 1.

The offensive line is not the only unit to blame for the 7 sacks taken by Matthew Stafford in Week 1 - LA’s signal caller seemed unprepared to handle the pressure by the Buffalo defense.

BonifayRam Comment here: If you look closely @ Noteboom's right knee & Edwards flying backwards right into that surgically reconstructed knee .....this may have been the play that did the most damage to Noteboom.

Re-watched Bills game and Edwards was horrible. He better hold his own vs Falcons or he may find himself on the bench. Rams just signed a guy that could easily take his place.

Jesus H Christ, first Brian Allen hit Noteboom leading to his first ACL/MCL tear and now freaking Edwards. Good God, Boom needs to stay away for his teammates.

Does seem unbelievable does it not?

Here we are going with just one game into this regular season & the Rams have lost its top 2022 draft pick Logan Bruss in the preseason to a serious knee injury & surgery who was selected to start @ RG this season. Thus most likely the reason Bobby Evans remains on the MR53

The Rams OL has lost its starting center Brian Allen to another knee injury to the same knee previously reconstructed for a period of maybe 6 weeks.

The Rams newly signed starting LT Joseph Noteboom to replace retired all-pro Andrew Whitworth suffered a MCL ligament strain the degree is unknown, knee injury also to the same knee that was damaged & reconstructed but is currently day to day & his status is unknown for this upcoming Sunday.

Rams just elevated from the PS for the first time Journeyman OC/OG Jeremiah Kolone who will suit up for the first time for an NFL game this Sunday as the main backup to the 3 interior posts.

The Rams just signed a UFA well-traveled journeyman OL'er to the PS, named Oday Aboushi who will replace Kolone on the PS who is trying to make a comeback from an ACL injury last season.

Rams might possibly enter the 2nd game of this season with 3 new starters @ OC/RG & LT all due to injury.

What did I miss here in my attempts to summarize the real picture of what has happened to this Rams OL thus far in just one week of play?

It feels crazy to say, but our OL might perform better with Anchrum and Shelton than Allen and Shelton.
It's not crazy because our starters set the bar so low game 1. Also we all probably have deja vus like when Noteboom at guard got hurt, and Edwards replacing him immediately improved our run game and pass pro.

Durability was always my concern about Noteboom....But now, I wonder if he is good enough after Von beat him like a rented mule until the injury.

Not trying to change your mind because that was a terrible performance. However, Noteboom came-up huge in the Divisional Round Game in Tampa.

It will be interesting to see how how the Rams' interior-OL handles Grady Jarrett.

Tremayne Anchrum has experience in Training Camp & Preseason @ all four OL positions (LT/ RT/ LG/ RG) after being drafted very very late in the 7th rd in 2020. So many different posts & 2 different OL coaches but never being involved with the offense in the regular season until late last week.

TA sure sound & speaks very well makes me feel much better after a so-so preseason. We have been discussing & desiring large stronger OL'ers in this Ram Ol. We sure are not getting taller but being 315 lbs compact OL'er whose height is under 6-2 is going to be interesting. TA was a very solid OT for many seasons in several championship teams in college.
TA is used to playing on the right side so he does have that going for him.

I have no idea how @bubbaramfan :explode1:knew that center Brain Allen was going to get injured thus letting his prediction come true to where TA is now our starting RG. TA is the best decision to replace Shelton. Let us hope that we can get this running game going like TA helped Clemson. Its my hope that the Rams will have discovered an excellent starting RG for the next few seasons & end some of our concerns.

Of course I'm hoping that Anchrum makes us all proud by taking over and owning that RG position from here on out, ... anything that keeps Evans on the sidelines has to improve our chances imo, although recently acquiring Oday Aboushi has me wondering whether HE might actually be our currently best RG and ahead of Evans & Brewer on the depth chart once he learns the Rams system, and that really shouldn't take very long. Last season, before being injured, Aboushi started at RG for the Chargers, and they went 4-1 during that span, previous to that he played with Detroit for 2 seasons, so I'd suspect that Stafford was consulted as to his abilities. jmo.
