Amazing how this franchise transformed itself

Just a quick comment about how this franchise has risen literally from the ashes of what it was 6 yrs ago when we made news in 2015 when our turf caught fire during pregame pyrotechnics.

Now they are a top 6 or 7 team in the NFL yr in & yr out, one of the most valuable sport's franchises in the world, and playing in maybe the greatest sports venue in the world.

Amazing transformation.

Some franchises get stuck for seemingly forever. Imagine being a Cubs fan in the early 20th century. Cubs went on a championship drought that lasted 108 years!! (From 1908 to 2016). Detroit Lions fans have it pretty bad, too.

My point is-- for some unlucky hardcore fans of a certain select few franchises, the good times don't always make up for the bad times.

Rams have given us a good mix of awful, mediocre, and fantastic. Thank goodness this fantastic run is gonna last as long as McVay is here. But those stretches in the 90s and 2005-2016 were awful!

I get it, but even the worst times have something to look forward to. Hope springs eternal, especially in sports. Look at my St. Louis Blues, for example. They finally won it all in 2019 when they hadn't won in their entire existence (since 1967). My dad, mom, and my mom's parents were lifelong fans, and they finally got to see us win it all, especially after all of the awful things that happened to this team (almost getting moved to Saskatoon, Purina refusing to draft at all because they wanted to sell the team in the early 1970s, I believe, 1973, if I'm not mistaken). It was validation for everything.

But I looked forward to every season because, hey, this could be the year. Even the bad times were memorable because of specific players doing well, a potential good draft pick to look forward to, etc. Why? Because I thought it was worth it.

There is nothing like sports for hope to spring eternal.

Look what happened to the Cubs. Finally get a win after 108 years and a few playoff appearances afterwards. Then they trade away the franchise this year!!! Hope fans enjoyed that WS win!!! Maybe another long drought?

Before 2004, the Red Sox hadn't won a World Series since 1918. Sure they've won a couple more since but it's turned Red Sox fans from lovable losers to arrogant assholes.

As a Ram fan, 1999 was unbelievable and it made up for the previous 9 years. But I was proud to be a Ram fan long before 1999 happened. I was proud of the Rams under George Allen. I was even more proud of the Rams under Chuck Knox. I was proud of the Rams under Malavasi when they LOST the Superbowl to the Steelers. IMHO, they gave Pittsburgh their hardest SB victory. I was proud of the Rams under Robinson too, even though they shat the bed vs SF in 1989.

You see, for me, it's about the game and the team. A Championship is the ultimate goal but not the only goal. If fans pin their hopes on a Championship, they might only enjoy it once in their lifetime. Some maybe never. I enjoy watching the Rams EVERY year because it has become a way of life for me. Some seasons are better than others. But it's always a joy and I'm proud to have been a Rams fan since the late 60's. And I've only witnessed 1 Championship.

But the 70's and 80's were also damn good for the Rams. It hasn't been that good for the Lions and Browns (until recently) while I've been alive. The Rams are hot and cold in different eras, but at least they HAD the HOT periods.

Have to give credit to Snead... and for that matter Fisher for bringing him in instead of some old washed up crony of his.

Snead obviously learned on the job some, but now he is right at the top of the GM list as he has put together a personal dept as good as any in the league, giving that great young coach the players he needs.

True, growing up in the mid 70's through the 80's it was fun, although also frustrating.

Of course in recent yrs since my son became a fan I felt bad because his first memory, and it's a faded memory as a 5 yr old, was the Carolina playoff OT loss. Then I remember him being so disappointed after 04' and the blowout playoff loss to the Falcons when he was 6 yrs old. Then of course everything crashed and burned after that.

So as a diehard football fan, he had it tough going through school. And I often felt bad for brainwashing him to be a Rams fan while his friends got to watch and enjoy so many Eagles big primetime games and playoff games, where as the Rams never sniffed a Sunday Night prime time game, let alone the playoffs.

So not until after he graduated HS did he finally get to see what its like to be a fan of a top caliber team. So thank God that finally happened so he can really enjoy football.

And he made me think about how far they have come from just that 2015 season. We actually went to watch the Washington road game that yr since he visited a Maryland college that same weekend. That was another disappointing Rams experience for him and then the next week the turf caught fire. We were a joke of a franchise... He reminded me of this last night as we watched the game and the real opening of the stadium...

So it's awesome to now look at us... Even if the new uni's are a little messed up. Lol!!

The game was well decided by then, the Rams O Line were literally having their collective arses handed to them all game long

Yeah the 70's 80s Rams sure were fun. Mid 70s - 1980 when I was on board we always had a top defense. Always fun to watch the sacks reign down on the enemies. We were always in the playoffs, and talked about. We had a 1000 rusher much of the time. That QB play for more than 2 seasons had eluded us though. There were flashes, but then they were done. Now we have Stafford who has a chance to make an impact for more seasons. Exciting football since 2017. Football has been fun again. Before that I was saying "f___ football." I wouldn't acknowledge the whiners or cheatriots.
