Plan B?
Disagree with “need” on OBJ if things trend well.
Healthy Van? Integrated Robinson? Growing Skow?
If they get improved line play and a better RB situation… OBJ will be more of a “want.”
There was no Robinson…It's fine you feel that way, but with much the same roster as last year, OBj was an incredible difference maker. I see Van Jeff as pretty decent trade bait next year if we can get OBj back under contract. Pretty hard to beat a line-up consisting of Kupp, Robinson & OBj.
Not bagging on Odell, but he is a stint compared to Watkins in the sense that Watkins actually played an entire season with the Rams beginning to end. OBJ came along for the ride more than halfway. Which is why I didn’t bring him up, but yes the sample size shows that OBJ is a good red zone guy, but I feel with ARob being utilized and the return of Van there might be no need for an injured OBJ…He did what we had to, but he isn’t a requirement to win another super bowl if we do get that far…What about Odell?
There was no Robinson…
Van was playing hurt….
Skow was a rookie and primarily on special teams.
Powell wasn’t even on the roster at this point and was never part of the offense.
It’s a much different roster.
And Van is cheap for one more year on a team that needs bargains.
Um… WRs are part of the roster. The part OBJ would be added to.Did I say WR roster, ... NO. I said much the same roster, ... as in general. If OBj passes a vigorous physical, I have no reason to discount his continued value. OBj can be had for cheap in 2022, 2023 & beyond is still questionable.
Burns can also carry a cheap CAP hit for 2022, it's 2023 & beyond that get interesting. jmo.
Well I think we would have had a chance with Odell if the line hadn't suffered the injuries and the offense was playing well. But they did and they're not. So there is no way the guy is going to choose the Rams when he can swoop onto a roster that is set and give himself another shot at a ring. Green Bay is out too most likely. What he needs to do is take his time picking a team, i.e. wait until just before the playoffs and then pick the team he thinks he can put over the top.
And honestly the Rams probably can't afford him anyway. And if they're going to sandwich in a new contract with creative caponomics it should be a difference maker at edge. Since they will never draft high enough to find one in round 3. Or at the least since their approach limits drafting of cornerstone positions like LT and blindside Edge.
They caught a windfall in Jackson maybe at LT. Other cornerstone spots are good with Stafford and Ramsey. So edge really stands out from that perspective of "what do we do going forward."
Loved Rich Saul. Only reason he didn't start earlier is because George Allen was the HC and he despised rookies and younger players. The late / great Rich Saul.
Waited until his 6th season to start (back-in-the-day). Then started for seven seasons, without missing a game; and went to the Pro Bowl in the final six of those seasons.
Improved OL play means Stafford can afford to sit in the pocket and go through his progressions. 90% of the time, ARob is in the backside of the concept, so if Stafford locks onto his first read or is forced to get rid of the ball because our OL is terrible, then ARob will never get the ball. If this is the case, then McVay needs to tweak the passing concepts to ensure ARob is the #1 read in the progression at least some of the time. This had not been the case at all this year, until last week. Last game was the first time ARob was the #1 option in the route at least 8 times, and wouldn't you know he had his best game as a Ram. Having the all-22 helps, but you can even see it on the TV copy of the games. Watch Stafford's eyes when he drops back and who he's looking at first. It's never ARob. With the quality of our OL right now, it's up to McVay to ensure he schemes up touches for ARob like he did last week. Those Ops should come with improved OL play, we know given proper time Stafford will hit his man.
Van opens up the intermediate and short routes for our other two. Seeing the offense before OBJ with Van, and now without either, you can’t discount his contributions to this offense. Dudes role opens up everythingAt least our reinforcement will be Van Jefferson.. am I right?
This. And Van is cheap for one more year on a team that needs bargains.
