This is the line o-line our ol coach wanted to put together that is starting right now.
We may be thin at tackle but I am super impressed at how they're developing these guys from free agents and cast offs with a nice pick in Avila.

Whoever is scouting the offensive lineman gets an A+ so far.

I see Alaric Jackson as a slightly better than average OT/OG, ... if we had a superior product he'd likely be relegated to the top swing position, but we don't and he's over performing for a UDFA developmental prospect. I had him pegged as a 6'th rounder and mistakenly assumed the Rams might draft an OT higher, figuring Bruss was probably destined for an OG job. How things change !
The Rams have OT depth behind a seemingly secure (temporarily) Havenstein, ... Jackson, Bruss, Noteboom, McCLendon & Arcuri, so we aren't pressed at the position this year. Ideally, Jackson would transition to a swing role if I get my wish of drafting our new and future LT next year, although that might come across as a demotion to him, ... it could also present a blueprint for moving him into the starting RT position, making Havenstein our best trade bait in years.
For me, Noteboom is an immediate trade candidate once he returns, his $20M. CAP hit next season is ridiculous, and we could use the extra money for our own free agency period.

Not many teams will be seeking him out, ... my best guess is a play-off bound team that suffers an OT/OG injury. I'd happily take a 6'th or 7'th rounder just to be rid of him.

Allen already signed a very cheap deal this past off-season. Otherwise he’d have been cut.

As for scouting the Rams Oline, we really don’t know who to credit for targeting Dotson. Otherwise Havenstein, Shelton and Jackson all seemed to be locked into their positions early in camp and beyond.

When it comes to drafting Avila, that is likely the scouting department and GM, coupled with how the draft fell that led them to taking him. If you recall the Rams tried to get up into round 1, to choose what appears to have been one of the offensive playmakers. We may never have picked Avila or Young in a trade for them to move into round 1.

Here’s another idea. The Rams hired a new Oline coach, Wendell. They also had Mike Munchak in camp as a consultant. Munchak has stayed on in some capacity. Some or most of the credit for Oline success could belong with Wendell and Munchak.

Agreed, although I also have Allen as toast. I'd be drafting a Center/OG to compete with McAllister next year for the back-up role to Shelton. Anchrum is also likely lost to free agency following this season. Shelton enters his 'contract' season in 2024 and we need to be prepared. Cutting Brian Allen will free up a few more CAP dollars for us next season.

That replacement may be on the practice squad already. McCallister was pretty good in college.

It could also be Avila in a few years.

Shelton played well in all but the Eagles game. The Ragles DLine has the size and athleticism to cancel Shelton out.

Forgot about McCallister. Good call.

Why move a dominate guard to center. That's like moving a dominate CB to safety. Gross.

Honestly would deal Noteboom and Allen for...anything, really. I love Alaric Jackson and how he plays. I don't mind having him as a starter.

My targets are Cooper Beebe (Kansas State, most likely a third round pick because guard is his most likely position, but he could make an absolutely fantastic right guard), Kingsley Suamataia (BYU, extremely huge, strong and athletic left tackle), and Amarius Mims (Georgia, huge kid, roadgrader), and - if he's not taken early Sedrick Van Pran Granger (Georgia center).

I absolutely would re-sign Dotson.. draft a tackle in 2nd or 3rd.. and another guard later.

I mean, Boom has already proven highly valuable to the team. Depth and having somebody who can come in and play functionally (esp. at LT) is worth a lot imo. I guess we need to factor in the weight of his contract this off season though.

He's valuable depth at this point. No way we can count on him for anything other than getting hurt. Hopefully they can restructure his deal next year and keep him on the team. He can play almost any position on the Oline which is huge coming off the bench. The Rams will cut bait with him next year if they can't restructure, no way they pay someone that much to backup other players.

Jackson is still raw in many areas and hopefully he can develop on the fly. His footwork is inconsistent as is his hand play. He's strong but there are times he lacks the quickness to adjust to a rusher trying to get around him. He still has issues with consistently playing with leverage.

As an OT Noteboom is better technique wise than Jackson. There was no way to foresee all the injuries that have hit him. Learning a new position on the fly at RG he played well. Don't listen to those PFF hacks who don't know what they are looking at. All their experience has probably been on Madden. There was a very noticeable drop off when Noteboom went out and Anchrum came in. So much so they sent a still injured Noteboom back out to take over for a healthy Anchrum. So he hasn't played as badly as most here contend.

When he can play I think Joe is their swing OT/OG. There has to be someone better than Anchrum on the roster as a backup OG. Thomas sucked at OT but he played well at OG. There are times Anchrum looks lost out there.

I didn’t say to, but who knows what they will do. If they have three guys that can all play guard at an above average level, why sit one on the bench.

I think Aleric is playing pretty well. It helps him to be next to Avila, but still he’s doing pretty good. He’s no Trent Williams though.

If the Rams want an OLT in round 1 then this is a good draft to pick one. If they want a QB in round 1 then this is also a good year to draft one.

I’ll be surprised if they go Left Tackle. I hope they take a QB of the future. But Corner, DT, and edge seem to Trump OLT at this point imo. But it’s early, a lot can happen between now and draft day.

Well, actually with the ZBS the Rams were always looking for quicker, more athletic offensive linemen. Unfortunately those types tend to be a bit lighter than the power blocking scheme linemen. Drafting lighter and more agile Olinemen is likely the reason that they rarely were able to get the tough yards on third and short.

They had already started planning on implementing a run scheme change when they signed Aleric Jackson. They didn’t have the guts to do what they wanted so the change didn’t come. Add in Avila and Dotson and now they do. A bigger center may be nice but they seem to like Shelton.

Avila and Dotson are new to the Rams. I’d bet the Oline coach gave his stamp of approval on those two moves.

Usually they try to address all weaknesses in free agency so that they don’t get pigeon holed into needing one specific and very obvious position.

It’s so difficult to say at this point what they will do. There is still 11 games left in the regular season and some of these young players may continue to develop and shrink the needs category for the draft.
