Do you have to be charged to get suspended? Also, people do call the police to "prevent" something from happening. Maybe a lot of screaming, threats, the cell phone getting whacked leaving some marks...someone may have thought lets call the cops now before this gets worse.
 
The league will do an independent investigation. If charges are dropped, that does not automatically equate the NFL not imposing a suspension, particularly because this moron has been suspended before for similar acts of stupidity. Hope we do something about our LT going forward after this season.

He's a big angry man and that's how he plays left tackle.
Plus he's still pissed that he wasn't drafted.
It is his anger that makes him so good and drives him.

(I totally made all that up and I have no idea if it's true :) )

All pure speculation at this point. Will there be an actual prosecution? If so will it actually go to trial? Will the trial be before the football season is over? Due process. And the NFL will NOT act until the trial has been completed. Everything is pure speculation.

Except he was suspended the last time he faced accusation and that case was ultimately dismissed
