McVay/Coen: Cam we need more urgency from you.

Cam: What's that mean?

McVay/Coen: Breaking tackles and making something of nothing.

Cam: But our starting line is out and the backups suck!

McVay/Coen: We can't be talking like that here.

Cam: It's true though.

McVay/Coen: We can't be pointing fingers. Next man up and everyone needs to adjust to changes.

Cam: But I'm getting hit in the backfield before I can do anything!

McVay/Coen: We're suggesting that you stay home this week.

Cam: What? You giving up on me, coach? After all I been through to come back?

McVay/Coen: We have to do what's best for the team. It's not about 1 player it's about the team.

Cam: That's bullshit coach and you know it! Nobody can run with this line not just me! Trade me if you won't play me.

McVay: We're going to sit you out this game. We'll see if we can work things out.

______________________________________________________________________________

Okay these aren't the exact words but I'm feeling this kind of vibe.

I'm definitely with those that are very disappointed that Cam appears to be not working out. When the achilles thing happened last year I was totally devastated because there went our bright young talented back for the season. The comeback at the end gave me some hope, but he appears to be limited. Wherever he ends up I hope the kid can help a team.
That's how I tend to read the situation too. I think he's the best option but we can't have a guy questioning coaches and moping around because he doesn't get his way.

IMO Akers has potential to make the staff look bad here. Generally when the Rams move guys they're simply not good enough and that is proven over real snaps in their system on the field. But with Akers there's more room for other factors to be large influences in what we're seeing and I am not completely certain that he's not the same guy. In other words maybe he can get back to that guy and that would suck to see him do that with another team.

So if I trade him it would be crucial to bring in a back I really like. To ensure I don't have shit production in my backfield while the castoff might regain his form.

I don't blame him 1 bit, he already got his ring so now I'm sure he has more personal goals and he's not gonna achieve them here with the way the oline is. Time for a change.

May have been best to have tried to keep the whole thing in-house to better leverage a trade. We might possibly have to drop/release him if we have no takers. I am sure it likely would have gotten out anyway but now teams may play the waiting game.

McVay on Akers: “There is a possibility that we could try to help him look for a fresh new start with a new team. That’s something we’ve explored. If that doesn’t come to fruition, then we’ll figure out a solution how to best move forward with him here.”

OK - Am I reading this wrong?! Sounds like to me that there is a possibility of the Rams keeping Akers???

I don't think it will be by choice, but RBs aren't really in demand. My guess is that any deal will be a "save face" trade. The Rams get a pick that might escalate to a 5th with Akers playing a decent amount of snaps.

Most of us here think Akers has little to no trade value. Rapoport seems to think there will be significant interest in him. I hope he's right. Because the last thing we want is to release him and a division rival signs him. The way 49ers RB's seem to have good days on our defense we'd never hear the end of it if he ran for over 100 yards on us with the 49ers. Twitter would be roasting McVay and the Rams.

Oh my God, can you imagine?!

Shanahan seems to like his RBs to be the type that hit the hole fast and with power. McKinnon. Mostert. Mitchell. Their entire run scheme seems predicated on that type of RB, so much so that anyone who brings those qualities virtually becomes "plug and play". I don't think Akers is a 49er style RB or is particularly well suited to succeed there. But you never know. I'm not keen to find out.

Soundbite for the media imo. McVay may be giving Akers and his agent a few day to pick a team of his own choosing, but you can bet that Snead is sniffing around for the best deal available, if there is one to be found. Some team may offer a late round flyer as not everyone is going to want to spend heavily on those top names being mentioned. jmo.

Melvin Gordon could be a real possibility. Looks like he is not going to get much playing time in Denver.

Now is he worth getting even if real cheap? Has he always been a fumbler or just a recent issue?

Akers straight up for Gordon?

That actually makes some sense for both teams. Which probably means it will never happen.

Can't see ... under the circumstances ... that either player has much value but each team needs a RB.

Sounds like Gordon may also have Philosophical Differences with Denver ... man, that's total fucking bull-shit.

The $ fits OK. I did a quick check, and Gordon has 25 career fumbles in 103 career games. That ain't good.

Typically McVay is very succinct and to the point, however (in my view) his comments regarding the Akers situation have been overly wordy and obtuse.

My take: Akers is forcing his way out and he/his agent (obviously) prefers that he gets cut vs a trade. McSnead hoping/praying to get some value in return, hence McVay's shamalama diatribe... but no one's buying McVay's narrative about keeping Akers if they don't find "a good situation for him with another team."

Prediction: No trade will materialize for Akers and he'll get cut by Wed of next week... buh-bye Cam

Almost sounds like the DJax talk last year. Trading him, significant interest and eventually he gets cut.

Unfortunately I agree with this. Ian Rappaport reported that there is "a belief he will draw significant interest," but that is clearly a line the Rams are pushing.

Cam has two gigantic red flags:
1. Attitude questions
2. Recovering from career-threatening injury.

Not to mention some fumbling issues, and pretty bad YPC, and looks unimpressive so far.

Why on earth would a team want to trade away a pick and take on his 2nd-rounder salary?

If the Rams can somehow get a 7th round pick for him that would be pretty amazing, IMO. I predict the Rams will try to shop him all the way up to the deadline, and then cut him if nobody makes an offer. Bummer!

Or it's a line Cam's representation is pushing. It's not like Cam is CMC. The dude has good college film and a brief window of highlights as the Rams starter. I love the potential but he hasn't proven anything yet. It's all been potential. So where are the teams offering picks because if he and the staff are at odds the Rams would probably jump on any real trade offer.

For this reason it would not surprise me if they end up cutting him due to no offers. Hope not. Prefer the trade. But meh.

I get that, when he went down it was a regurgitated theory that RB had more difficulty and there's no validity to it. Akers looked awful explosive at times in the playoffs last year and in some games this year. His reluctance to explode seems mental not physical. His fumbling issues are his biggest flaw which I imagine has made his relationship with McVay tenuous
RB's have become a dime a dozen, and when a guy misses significant time, his spot may not be there when he gets back.
I figure the same. He can't take the criticism from the coach. He's being too sensitive. Coaches told my kid he was too short to start on Oline and Dline. Lincoln took it as a challenge. Now he's the leader on both units. He could have quit trying. Maybe Cam was always treated with kid gloves because he was good or a coaches kid or something. He might have some Kyler Murry in him.
McVay on Akers: “There is a possibility that we could try to help him look for a fresh new start with a new team. That’s something we’ve explored. If that doesn’t come to fruition, then we’ll figure out a solution how to best move forward with him here.”

They should keep him, if they don't get a decent offer. Lots of teams need running back depth. Make him ride the pine, until he walks away. The Rams still have his rights for another year don't they? Let him sit at home. I wouldn't risk him going to a rival and having big games against the Rams.

Yep, that would suck

I wouldn't cut him, unless they have a better option acquired through a trade. They could add him as part of a trade for CMC.

Otherwise, let him sulk.

Michel is with the Chargers as a backup. I think they would love to have Akers in a straight swap. Akers wouldn't have to move and he would be going to a coach he knows. Michel would be an upgrade to Brown. He knows the offense and is exactly the kind of RB the Rams need right now. Win Win IMO.

Really, you wouldn’t want Michel + an OL and/or pick ? How many yards does Michel have this season, remind me? I like him but that trade looks incredibly bad considering he was on street clothes three times already this season
