Can't wait for Eric "The Great" Dickerson
The Los Angeles Rams first round pick in 1982 was RB Barry Redden from Richmond, however, after the coaching change from Ray Malavasi to John Robinson, the Rams still drafted Dickerson number 1 in 1983 because they recognized he was a rare talent.

Now that you remind me I recall how odd it was to grab 2 first-round RB's in successive years. An almost unheard-of move, but nobody will ever blame the Rams all-time winningest coach for ignoring the running game, I think Wendell got most of the carries during Redden's rookie season, Barry was a bit of a disappointment if my old memory serves me well. " Student body right".

EDIT: @den-the-coach
I just looked up the stats Wendell in 81' had 1100 yds and 12 td's rushing while catching 45 balls and adding another 5td's receiving
WoW, I knew he had a couple of productive years but didn't realize in 81 Tyler went off in 82 we spent a 1st on Redden and in 83 we drafted E.D. That is an odd stretch of RAM RB history.

Here is the sad part, I actually took a day off of school to watch the 1983 draft which was televised during the week back then on ESPN. I never missed much School (Junior year of high school back then) and I asked my parents if they would allow me to take the day to watch the draft and they agreed.

My parents are awesome and they trusted me and to that point I had not missed a day and being early in the week I was not subject to miss a Lacrosse game being on the team, which was scheduled for Friday. I also did not inform my friends either because loose lips sinks ships. To this day only my parents knew even my sister, who is 4 years younger, just thought I was under the weather having no idea about the draft.

I loved it even though back then not many highlights or even team breakdowns, but guys like Paul Zimmerman knew their stuff and the information they had on the players at that time was informative. I loved the choice of Dickerson and knew under John Robinson he would be a star and the Rams were headed in the right direction.

My apologies for a trip down memory lane, but what a draft to watch for the Rams. Dickerson, Henry Ellard, Mike Wilcher, Chuck Nelson (Lansford was better), Doug Reed, Otis Grant (WR MSU) I even remember the 12th round pick QB Clete Casper from Washington State.

I'll have to excuse den for playing a French game when he could have been a swell long snapper. Dude had potential ~ Dr Z
