Good luck with that. It's a core principle of the Rams running attack. We've seen countless players for years not get playing time until they were better at it. It's likely one of the reasons he wasn't out there a lot on his rookie contract. McVay has adapted with the OL but that's about the only time I can think of him doing it. Personally I don't want a guy on the field who can't contribute to the fullest shocked you want our coach to change to make the offense worse in one of the things it does well just to conform to this one player. Seems bad coaching to me.

I feel that’s why kupp and puka get nicked up so much because essentially plays them like te in certain situations… so I say he need to tinker with it or something …

3 Observations on Rams OTA No. 1

The Los Angeles Rams were flying at OTAs and we were on sight to observe it all. Here are three observations from Wednesday's activities. 1. Konata Mumpfield ma

That being said, I think Mumpfield could really solidify that 5th WR spot, possibly back up all receiver spots and even offer meaningful snaps this year.

BTW, we do know what the offense will look like with Tutu as a starter. It was rolled out mostly in 2023 and 2024. 2023 before Robinson took over at X and 2024 when Kupp was hurt. He was hidden from blocking a lot in those groupings but he blocked some and I appreciated the effort (it was laughably all that could be asked).

I expect some new wrinkles and the continued use of short motion with him. But for anyone who wants to know what the offense looks like with him, we've got the tape.

It’s possible they change things like they did in Stafford’s first year with the Rams. Now that they have Adams and Tutu who they expect to get separation, do they try to throw down field more? Do they use more drop back or more shotgun? Does Nacua move into Kupp’s role? Do they use Whittington like they did Skowronek? Kupp is no longer a major factor that the scheme revolves around. I think that opens the door for some changes.

There are still many possibilities. I actually hope McVay makes a few scheme changes. It was a little stale at times last year.

Me either, but he’s been getting a lot of hype. I was surprised to see that Riddick thinks so highly of him but it wouldn’t be the first time a guy was hyped up and disappeared once the season started, we’ll find out soon enough

Def think there will be changes but 80% of his usage last year when Kupp and Nacua were out will prob be his usage regardless of new personnel. Lots of snaps at F and Z, some at X. Short motion. Overs, outs, go's, crossers (though he needs to work on throttling his speed on those - should help getting more snaps), so-so bubble passes. Though, he will affect the others by probably having us use less condensed splits in general.

But at the end of the day, there's not a lot different you can do with him.

Edit changes to the offense: as far as Nacua, I looked at some games last year and his snap rates. Lot's of snaps from the slot already even with Kupp still on roster and since we run so many short splits - that seems right. I expect he'll get as many snaps at Z as he does at F next year. My guess is he does some of the stuff that Kupp was doing but keeps a good amount of his old Z role, he's not the separator that Kupp was from the slot, he's more a basketball player with crazy body control which probably suits a good continued amount of use at Z.

I expect Rams do a tiny more straight drop back passing next year. Top teams in the league seem to be doing this more. Weirdly enough, it has become the change up that pistol and shotgun were years ago. Martz must be peeing himself somewhere.

I don't expect Whitt to get many snaps like Skow, some perhaps as a lead blocker but prob more like Deebo. Scheme him touches to make him a runner whether through snaps at RB, screens, crossers, designed touches to let him work YAC.

Fergy is a mystery to me, he'll be the most interesting one to watch in camp. His usage could go a million ways.

I know some peeps will lose their mind if Tutu plays the close to the amount of snaps he played last year at his price but I always felt the 10 mill was paid for optionality in the offseason as much as for what Tutu will bring this year so I'd be mostly okay with it.

Plus, that 10 seems to not be that crazy in the FA market at WR this last year which seemed to have slim pickings and many guys signing with their own teams.

Feels like we paid a little bit of a premium for a guy we know who has a talent we need (speed) and gave us the ability to go in multiple directions in the draft this offseason.

I know some peeps will lose their mind if Tutu plays the close to the amount of snaps he played last year at his price but I always felt the 10 mill was paid for optionality in the offseason as much as for what Tutu will bring this year so I'd be mostly okay with it.

Plus, that 10 seems to not be that crazy in the FA market at WR this last year which seemed to have slim pickings and many guys signing with their own teams.

Yes. There is value in having a guy that knows the system as opposed to bringing in someone new and hoping he picks it up quickly.

Yea but from tutu perspective I don’t think he would have come back without a vote of confidence that he would get a uptick in playing time makes no sense for him not to look and see what’s out there
