I have said "what if" the Rams had focused on putting studs around Donald while he was here? They always took mid rounders like Gaines, Day, etc... and let Donald do all the work.

One of his best years was when we added Suh. Then he got Miller for about 6 or 7 games and we won a SB. Too bad we didn't keep doing that so it would have been harder for teams double and triple him.

Can't recall the situations in the regular season game, but in the playoff game, didn't his 2 long runs and Hurts TD run all go outside the Tackle box? I know on the TD run that went to the left, the "B" gap was filled and then Barkley bounced outside. So, to me it was more of an issue of outside containment ; no Linebackers or Safeties around to make a play.
Fortifying the area between the Tackles is great, but I'm not sure it was the problem against the Eagles

His one long run was through the B gap, I believe but to get there or outside the tackle box, the front five need to do their initial blocking (unlike say with Faulk against the Bengals!) so if you have DT's and Edge's that can hold their blocks or destroy their blocks he can't necessarily get there.

There are very few LBs in the league who are going to take down Saquan if he's got a wide open B gap. Possibly none.

Like the Hamilton pick but really impressed with Shorty Stewart's run blocking. What we really need is better contain from the edges in general, stepping up the DTs would be nice and some improved LB play (but it's the least important of the three IMO).

I like Davis but he wasn't quite ready, I think he is in the rotation but not high up. Also Poona can 3T on early downs. So I figure in the 5 man fronts there will be opportunity. Hambone is stout as fuck.

It will be fun to watch how the rotation shakes out for sure.

While we're talking about the Dline rotation, this will be the first year in awhile were rotations and roles on the offense will be up in the air. Will be a fun TC to see where it all ends up.

Kobe Turner plays lot of snaps. it would be a good thing if they had better depth so they could rotate more guys into his spot to keep him fresher.

I was just looking at DL Snap Counts for the 2024 Rams ... source pro-football-reference.

The Rams basically used 5 Defensive Linemen last season; and all five were pretty healthy.

As we would expect, Turner and Fiske played the most defensive snaps, with Turner the highest at 75% of all defensive snaps (up from 62% as a rookie). Fiske was at 59%. Again, as expected, these two players were on the field for most passing situations.

That should certainly be the case in 2025 ... good health permitting. Perhaps Turner gats a little more rest, and Fiske sees an increase in snaps (as Turner did in his second season).

The other three DL (Brown, Gallimore and Davis) were more run-defenders, played fewer snaps and were mostly on-the-field in running situations. Brown led this trio with 42% of the defensive snaps, with Gallimore and Davis both at 29%.

Ford and Hamilton figure to replace Brown and Gallimore's roster spots, with Ford likely to play a higher-% of snaps than Bobby Brown did last year. Davis and Hamilton should both be game-day active, and see the field but either could earn a larger role based on their performance.

With Desjuan Johnson also in reserve (I am a fan, as he always seems to flash to me when he's on the field), the D-Line looks strong in my opinion.

Correct. People are overlooking Davis due to the shiny new toy syndrome.

Davis played in every game last year and had 19 run stops in 354 snaps. He had 17.5 snaps per defensive stop ratio. In comparison, Camren Hayward, who led the league in stops, had a 17.7 snaps per stop ratio.

I was projecting Tyler's snaps to increase significantly, but they may only slightly increase with the Ford addition. Hamilton will get worked in behind both guys.

We’ll see. I sort see it a little different,but there is SO much competition across the D”Line .
The rotation is going to be interesting to see the different looks they give.

Davis was playing DE at times.Johnson is going to have a tough time making th roster as well as Thomas.Jackson might take the place of Hoecht,but for some reason I believe Young & Verse will fill that role making it harder for the Offenses to read who is rushing or in protection .

A few weeks ago he spoke about wanting to improve in this area. It'll be interesting to see if he has improved. I haven't had the time to watch Hamilton's tape so I don't know where he'll be playing, but it looks like they have 0T and 3T pretty well covered. With Brown and Gallimore leaving, that leaves just Fiske and Johnson, maybe Hamilton, but again not sure.

The shiny new toy syndrome comment wasn't directed at a specific person. It's just my general observation that we fans tend to get more excited about the newer players while overlooking the older players who likely are more entrenched with the coaches.

Am I to take it that you feel Hamilton is a superior player to Davis?

I agree with your assessment on Fiske. I feel that Ford will eat all of Brown's snaps and quite a few more. I see Ford getting the lion's share, followed by Davis, and then Hamilton occasionally getting snaps.

Agreed. Poona is the main run stopper.

Plus some scouts said Hamilton has a lot of technique to work on. In college he relied on his physicality and athleticism more so than technique. So, he’s a bit raw if those reports are accurate.
