I'm not arguing one bit because I've already studied the history behind gold mining and the US government's homicide, genocide and displacement of Native Americans which they referred to and justified as, "Manifest Destiny".

Search the North Coast Journal on "Indian Island Massacre" Feb 1860. There were not government troops crossing back to Eureka by boat at daybreak after the deed. There is a first hand account of a young Wiyot girl who seen the whole thing hiding in a garbage pile, chilling. Some survivors were taken to Fort Humboldt they they were involved too.
More happened throughout Humboldt that nite. Lots of ranchers got in on it too. This is the stuff that happened near town. Lot of unwritten history happened in the hills. I know of some of it.

It's like one of my reasons for hating the Kansas Jayhawks. They're named after Unionists in the Civil War that called themselves "Jayhawkers." They were glorified raiders, pillagers, rapists, and murderers who went into Missouri and massacred men, women, and children, all in the name of "abolitionism". They fueled the rise of Quantrill's Raiders and Bloody Bill Anderson's raids into Kansas, where they massacred men, women, and children.
Both sides should be looked at unfavorably in history, and deservedly so. However, the University of Missouri named themselves the Tigers, who were a militia who defended Columbia, Missouri, who repelled all attacks by both Quantrill's Raiders and the Jayhawkers.
So, yeah, KU can say we were a slave state - and that would be true. But at least we didn't name our university sports team after a bunch of murderers and rapists.

I used to work in S.F. and see this stuff daily on my walk to work off the BART train. Thank God I moved to Texas in '03 and escaped that madness. It's like a 3rd world country with a stronger poop smell to bring home the political corruption lesson.
