I’m not counting him out or hoping he fails at all.

I like watching TEs truck guys down field.

What I’m saying is….we haven’t seen a TE take a large role in our passing game under McVay, except in short stints at the end of each season.

I hope Ferguson excels and becomes a fan favorite.

I love McSnead, but sometimes we draft toys that sit in the toy box.
Atwell, for example.

But to go 12 you need someone out there with him who is better than a WR as a pass game option. And that's what we have lacked.

What is interesting is maybe this year that changes. Because Ferguson is a big mover you gotta be careful with in coverage. And Allen is going into year three and has good hands plus decent size. So maybe in total we see an uptick in 12 sets, and in the media they'll blab about how McVay has had a philosophical change. But the reality, if it happens, will be that he finally has weapons that enable those sets.

I don't understand what you mean by the bolded part. But I agree that Ferguson seems to be a better weapon than what we've had in the past. I think we all were surprised that McVay didn't utilize the TE position like he did when he was in WA. It was a pretty big subject of discussion around here.

And for good reason. But McVay himself has mentioned it a couple times now and I think he has been jonesing for a TE that can create like he envisions. I think he can't wait to incorporate more 12 sets. Guess we'll see.

He just had a guy who was too light to be called a TE in Kupp.

Everett was smaller and much less of a route runner and came from a small school. Ferguson is much more of a pro ready prospect than Everett could have ever hoped to be. You're doing our guy a major disservice to compare him to Everett.

Everett made some big plays for us in the season we went to the Super Bowl....vs. the Chiefs, as well as in the NFC title game vs. the Saints.

The fact of the matter is that McVay got increasingly dedicated to 3 WR sets. To a degree that no other team used that formation as much as we did. Folks forget that Everett had become our #1 TE and fell behind Higbee after getting an injury... Higs passed him and never looked back.

I get the feeling now that Kupp being gone will result in more 2 TE sets for us, and I for one will be glad to see that.

What I'm thinking right now is if Ferguson can give us that good possession over the middle, stretch the seams a bit, threaten on wheels, etc., there's going to be more snaps where McVay opts to roll with 12.

People seem to forget that Tyler Higbee is the Rams all-time leader as a Tight End, by a country mile. In both receptions and yardage. Just sayin.

If Ferguson can be as good as Higs that would be a huge accomplishment.

I get it that Parkisian was IMO(yours) that he was a HORRIBLE free agent signing.

I can get into what in theory happened from last season to this season & beyond ?

The HATE needs to stop,Colby is a very smart guy & will work hard.There’s going to be a HUGE difference in this TIGHTEND group this year.

Let’s start with Scott Huff & IMO more Zak Kromer helping with schemes. Tyler Higbee is going to change the spirit in the room now add on top of it Ferguson coming in as a rookie.

Davis Allen was a real disappointment last season,but even he will need to find his place on the roster.

Listening to some of Sean Mcvays interviews help understand where The Rams are coming from.

IMO Sean Mcvay ate some HUMBOLT PIE(lol),and learned a little sumpthen something.He wants to WIN from the start & continue to BUILD the Rams CORE

Mcvay already basically said SO much.He talked about how he called & Talked Chit to Nick Caley.

Saying we finally found a TE coach that can run 12 personnel.Then he said was just joking & loves Nick.

This might give a little insight on The Rams might being more of a Power Team!!

Yep. There really shouldn't be any doubt about it.

Years ago, McVay said something to the sort that the only reason they ran 11 personnel so much was because of the talents of Cooper Kupp in the slot. Kupp is gone. Here comes 12 personnel.

Not only that, but the blocking at TE at times wasn't even as good as the blocking at WR (I'm looking at them all but mostly Kupp).

I think we get way to wrapped up in 11 P vs 12 P when it's probably more productive to talk about WR and TE splits in this offense.

To add to my earlier comment: I'm really curious to see what our offensive splits look like next year. I'd have to go back but with Tutu starting part of the year last year, our splits were wider and we used less bunch formations. Will that be the case this year? Will Ferguson allow us to continue to operate in more bunch sets? No matter what, I think we'll still be an offense that runs from condensed formations more often than not.

Forget 11 vs 12 personnel, the difference will be in WR and TE splits and positioning on the field.

And I was honestly impressed with Higbee's comeback the end of last season. He looked leaner and quicker. Idk if it was direct result of knee injury causing it (weight loss), a plan for him because of the injury (reduce weight better for knee), or McVay wanting him to do that to improve his ability in passing game but I thought he looked better overall. I expect more 12 personnel but also, if Ferguson has no problem absorbing what McVay wants from him, for him to spell Higbee to keep him fresh. As long as Ferguson doesn't shit the bed as a rookie I expect good things from our TEs this year.
