Absolutely.

But which gap is greater?
#9 >>>>> JG
or
JG >>>>> Bennett

Backup QBs went 34-82 (.293) last year. Take out 3 of them....Davis Mills (3-0), Kirk Cousins (5-3) and Mac Jones (5-3) and the rest went 21-76 (.217). I think some fans look at McVay's offense and believe, JG would do just fine "managing the game". Maybe, but for how long. #9 is the piece that makes McVay's offense work and we need not look at anything other than Stafford >>>>> Goff. If Stafford missed a game or two, we should be fine. Any more and were fucked, whether it's JG, Stetson or Simpson. So IMO, all this discussion over who's the #2 is preseason busy work.
Stats are only stats. They can say that teams with backups arent as good without the starter and they can tell you those teams didn't have a good enough back up. Or the team gave up when they saw they didn't have a chance.

There is a huge gap from Jimmy to the other 2 QBs. How many seasons did he play for SF? They got to the playoffs and to the SB. I'm sorry, but we are only fucked if we let out ourselves be fucked. It will be unforgivable in my mind, to let this team's chances float away on one play because the team decided to go with 2 players with NO playing experience in the NFL.

When comparing the difference from Stafford to Jimmy, what was the difference in the NFCC in 21. Jimmy G was injured as well and yet they had the game until the end. They are both winning NFL QBs when on good teams.

We are Fucked if Stafford goes down is such a stupid argument for not signing Jimmy G.

If Stafford were to go down with a catastrophic season-ender his replacement would be a phone call away. Whether thats calling up Jimmy G off his couch, or calling the Raiders and offering a mid-round pick for Cousins, or calling Minnesota for Wentz. This scenario is very unlikely however as Staff is a horse that rarely goes down for the season. Otherwise, the 1 or 2 game injury can be held down by Stets or Ty, with a heavy run game, 13 or 14 (LOL) personnel, blah-blah-blah bullshit....

We're going to have an '85 Bears Defense when AD returns, stop worrying so much everybody......

I'm not the GM and it's not an argument for not signing JG. It's an argument to show I don't give a fuck if they sign JG or not. We're fucked if Stafford goes down for an extended period, whether JG, Stetson, Simpson or Cousins is the #2. Just like any other team with a HOF QB and a huge disparity between he and the #2 guy.

Leaving a lot to chance.
Over the past few years the Rams have taken chances at certain positions and those positions have lead directly to loosing the chance to go to the SB. As things stand the rams are doing the same thing with the back up QB position.

They have protected themselves with Jimmy G the last 2 years and haven't needed him. The way life works, now that they don't they will need him.

Like I said, a phone call away. Cant Jimmy roll out of bed and run this Offense?? And he's not goin anywhere else. Chillin in SoCal or playing for McVay the only 2 options in already-rich Jimmy's life, IMHO.

Yes the chance of winning a SB is less likely, but there would still be a reasonable chance with Jimmy G. No chance with the other 2.
McVay would have to adjust to what Jimmy does best and with 13p that should not be a problem.

How do you know he wont' go anywhere else? You don't. Again, leaving to much to chance.

That's every NFL Season. Usually the Team that wins the SB is the healthiest one. It's why they called the 99' rams the Cinderella story.

Precisely. Finding a franchise QB is so freaking difficult and that's obvious by how many teams are still searching for one. Fans expect to have a franchise QB, or in our case, a HOF franchise QB and somebody good enough to replace him should he be injured? In what fucking world? Now they've drafted a QB in the first round, much to the chagrin of many Ram fans. "Could have had Lemon", "or Sadiq", "or Conception", "or pick any name here". But they decided to draft Simpson because he had many intangible qualities they like. Plus some physical qualities too. They know Stafford may not be around past 2028, so they got a guy they think is going to seemlessly replace him when the time comes. We'll see if they're right but right now, they're not wrong.

You guys with the QB issues...seriously?

All the bragging about this team having a dominant D - especially if AD comes back - and your going to throw up your hands and give up if Stafford goes down?

Me? I'm going to enjoy this defense and watch us win

If Staff had to miss 2-3 games, it'd be nice to see Jimmy maybe move a couple into the dub column, with our D. I mean an edge is an edge.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah actually having a good QB does affect the defense as well. If Stafford really gets hurt, no QB is going to have this offense humming like he gets it. There will be more stalling of the offense and less scoring meaning more time spent on the field by a defense with a higher possibility of it getting worn down. A good 2nd string QB could keep that offensive engine going somewhat, but if not, its also possible for that defense to get overworked. We literally just saw the opposite this past year where the offense had to be on point because the defense couldn't stop shit more often than not. Obviously all of this is hypothetical but if Stafford gets hurt, I'd much rather roll the dice with a seasoned vet like JG vs Bennett or Simpson at the moment. However I could see the Rams letting Bennett play a few games (if he's truly the number 2) to see how he truly responds. Under no circumstances, do I want to see Simpson out there. Rookie QBs don't win Superbowls.

Sure, anything is possible. But that's where that possible/probable nuance comes into play. I'm sure there are examples of exactly what you've presented but there aren't many. At least I can't think of many. Warner? Sure. Who else?
Earl Morrell>>Bob Griese?
That’s the only one I can think of that fits the context.
That was over 50 years ago.
