I used to live in OB.
Ran a music studio/recording/rehearsal place by the Sports Arena and played many a gig at Winstons and other places.
Nico's for tacos or burritos and Hodad's were both favorites for sure.
Both are still there amazingly enough.
The Black just closed a couple of months ago.
My favorite bar.....because they would serve me despite not being 21, it was a different time....was Pacific Shores. A funky little dive bar full of part time losers and full time drunks....or vice versa. Generally friendly.
It has been "hipster" out quite a bit the last 10 years or so....now, Pac Shores has new, unstained carpet and $18 cocktails....so it goes I guess.
I then moved up to Sunset Cliffs in a nice house with an ocean view.....nothing like peaking at 20 years old, haha
SD is incredible. I've been around a decent portion of the country.. lived in several regions and have family spread throughout. SD is, honestly, the most incredible place to live in this country right now, imo... if you can afford it. Cost of living has exploded in last 15 years, it's wild. I think that, to live here, younger people are going to have to tweak what the "dream" looks like a little when it comes to housing. Seeing more multi-generational situations (which, personally, I think is actually a good thing for society.. while understanding why many see that as a step-back in quality of life).. there will be a shit-ton of apartments and condos in the future as well. But... the weather.. the fact that you have incredible desert climate.. beautiful mountains.. and a picturesque coastline... it's unmatched. Add to that a food-culture that is as vibrant as any.. the best baseball park experience in the country.. it's pretty goddamn special.

It's a bummer the Chargers moved.. but they are stuck with the modern equivalent of Georgia as ownership.. or they never would've left.

And the average single-family home is about a million bucks.

Sorry for bringing this back, lol.. haven't logged on in a while and just wanted to chime in.

I almost bought a home after the subprime lending crash in Ocean Beach, that was listed for around $150k. But at that time I knew I didn't want to retire to Cali, so I ended up buying in Vegas instead. When I sold the Vegas home I made a good bit, nearly $200k. But had I bought that OB home I would have made upwards of $700k, perhaps a good bit more, and I'd have the 900 series mower with all the bells and whistles. :laugh1:
