He has muscles popping out of his fingers.

An interesting tidbit from Shatz.....

The Rams used 13P 31% of the time in 2025 (and they didn't use it once prior to week 7). Since 2010 the second highest usage of 13P was the 2021 Cleveland Browns (17%) and third was 2024 Steelers (15%). That 31% is almost double the Browns and more than double the Steelers.

Another line that made me smile......"the Rams act. The rest of the league reacts. Any longtime coach or battlefield historian will tell you that reacting is harder and the side that dictates the terms has a distinct advantage".

That percentage (31% of 1086 plays) amounts to 336 plays with 13P. But if we take out the first 6 games (367 offensive plays) since they didn't run 13P until week 7, it's 46.7% with 13P from week 7 to week 18. :wow2:

Shatz also says, "offense is more consistent year to year, than defense and offensive performance is easier to project than defensive performance".
Interesting, since our HC is an offensive guru and has demonstrated the ability to adapt his offense, mid game or mid season. Perhaps that's why we've consistently been good on offense.

Just can't avoid seeing the numbers of 13P vs no 13P.

Games 1 - 6 (no 13P) Rec 4-2
WR TDs 5 (Puka 2, Adams 3)
RB TDs 3 (3 TD receiving also)
TE TDs 3
Offensive PPG 23.3

Games 7-17 (46.7% 13P) Rec 8-3 (Puka missed 1 game, Adams missed 3)
WR TDs 21 (Adams 11, Puka 8)
RB TDs 13 (0 receiving)
TE TDs 14
Offensive PPG 33.1

Did the Rams have a tougher starting first 6 and easier last 11? Slightly. The opponents win% over the first 6 was .535. Over the last 11 it was .527. They played three 10 win + teams in the first 6, 4 in the final 11. They played 3 playoff teams in the first 6, 5 in the final 11 (though Carolina was 8-9). They scored 30 points + in the first 6 once; 8 in the final 11.

That's why a lot of heads are talking about 13P. Will it be affective this season? Will it change?

@kurtfaulk posted the great analysis on the Rams TE group and how the different skillsets make it really work.. that was going to be my point, though not nearly as detailed, lol.

A lot of teams are going to *try* to go to 13 a bunch this year... the Rams have the incredible advantage of continuity and expected growth out of T Ferg... I think Klare is a Davis Allen replacement more than anything else.. but, in the meantime.. Park, Ferg and Allen will be an incredible group for attacking defenses.. with Higs rotated in and out as well.

The single biggest worry and potential failure point is left tackle with the possibility of a suspension for A Jackson. Fingers crossed that it's minimal (in a football context and I hope the guy figures this part of his life out. DV is a serious issue in society and should not be tolerated *AND* toxic relationships can create situations like the one described in the reports about A Jackson's incident. So.. learn to avoid that shit like the plague.. and grow the fuck up.)

IMO, he's a replacement for Higbee in a year or two. Allen is probably the best blocker in the TE room. Klare has been compared to Ferguson, not Allen. They're both more like Higbee than Allen. But Allen is in the last year of his rookie deal

Allen won't be back next year. Too many other priorities which is why they added Klare and a bunch of UDFA TE's that they plan to stash on the PS.

Didn't some think the same about Higbee at the end of the season last year?
Not the same. Career TE receptions leader for this organization, team leader, taking a cheap deal. A team will overpay for Allen just because he was in this offense.

Plus, they have probably had few offseasons like this upcoming offseason, where they will have so many good players to re-sign. Allen will just not be a priority.

I don't know. You guys are probably right but Snead won't just let him walk without trying to sign him. After all... they will be losing Higbee and Parkinson and their contracts so the TE room may not be that expensive. My guess Snead will allow Davis Allen to test the market. If they can sign him for 5-6 mill per year (2 years...10 guaranteed?), He played very well last year and is a valuable piece in Mcvays 13 personnel and would be again next year. And the Rams might not be so comfortable having just 2 experienced TEs on the roster. How the young guys play this year will be the biggest factor in their decision. On the other hand... many teams are copying the Rams so their tight ends might be in strong demand on the open market.

Yeah, it could come down to if they decide Parkindon is too expensive, then maybe they try to keep Allen.

Higbee signed a two-year contract in March, so now, only Parkinson and Allen will be free agents amongst the TE room.

True but the 2nd year is $3 million no guarantee. Could really just be a last hurrah for him and he's gone after winning another SB.
Agree for sure. That may be the likely scenario. But just pointing it out because we can't assume he won't be back next year.

I disagree.
Parkinson is Higs replacement.. he's the inline guy.
Klare is a move guy like Allen.. with a little more speed. But people forget.. Allen is an explosive athlete.. except for his speed... and Klare's a little faster. T Ferg is a unicorn they were lucky to get, imo.. he has real deep speed for the position. He's the true matchup problem that makes the Rams 13 groups so difficult to defend, and he's only going to get better.

It could certainly go a lot of different ways. Rams signed Parkinson as a developmental shot, first year he was meh, last year much better. Allen's done some good things, doesn't look to be as good an athlete as the others but has good hands. It probably comes down to who can make the most progress and improve, that and price point where they might try to ink the one they like best.

Higs is the one whose future is clear I think. Just a matter of time for him at 33 years. Not that he's old, but he's at that final curve range for the position. The TEs who play into their mid 30s well seem to be the option route studs, and that has never been Higs. Inline types it's probably more a young man's game. They're cheaper and they bring upside.

If Higs were to have a great season would he want that final payday where he extracts the most from the market? I'd imagine so, and wouldn't blame him, but that probably comes from the market not the Rams. He's stuck around because he's always been team friendly in signing and a good player who lifts the locker room.

One thing I think gets overlooked with this TE group is the impact of the TE Coach. Scott Huff absolutely killed it last year. To a man the TE group looked focused and ready to go, and all of them improved. His background is OL, which is an area of expertise that served him well in making sure all these guys could be plugged in with the rotation without missing a beat. It was one of the more impressive outings I can recall from a first year coach in terms of impact in his room.

So I'm curious to see what he can do with Ferg and Klare. Because it's not like any of our TEs last year were overcoached in blocking. Parkinson basically developed into Higs, thereabouts, and made some great catches in clutch moments. Even Ferg contributed and was downright unfortunate in the ball not being put on him in some key moments, or a DB having an arm in there, etc.

All of this makes me wonder if Huff's going to be a guy who McVay puts into his OC track. And this year probably has a big impact on that. We're gonna need to see Ferg take a big year two step, and Klare has to at least be felt on the field.

2027 Salary Cap Breakdown

Terrence Ferguson4 yrs / $9,713,466$2,428,367$2,649,125Year 3 of rookie draft contract.
Max Klare4 yrs / $8,019,796$2,004,949$1,822,681Year 2 of rookie draft contract.
Colby Parkinson3 yrs / $22,500,000$7,500,000UFAUnrestricted Free Agent; contract expires after the 2026 season.
Davis Allen4 yrs / $4,084,976$1,021,244UFAUnrestricted Free Agent; contract expires after the 2026 season.

A lot could happen between now and next offseason. I was thinking it could be Higs' last season, but if healthy, he could return for another year. His cost is reasonable. They could keep him and resign Parkinson while letting Davis Allen test free agency. There are multiple ways this turns out. Overall, a healthy TE Room looks solid for 2026-27.
