Which could also mean he’s no good at it. Normally that wouldn’t be a major concern, except that our ST’s stunk. I find it hard to believe they didn’t try really hard to get him on teams.
He made a pretty good tackle on teams the one time he did get in there.

He could also be good at special teams, but he plays for a coach that has emphasized the offense far more than the special teams. And there McVay probably trusted Rivers more in pass protection given his experience.

Probably a difficult chore without know the weekly injury status of the rest of the team, but perhaps a good exercise would be to take a look at some of the inactive lists this season. Add a 4th RB and then see who should take his place as inactive.

I read it. You said that he’s stuck behind WIlliams and Corum at RB. You didn’t say anything involving his absence on ST’s which is the question i posed to you.

If you don’t know the answer that’s fine, but I thought you might have a theory.
I would pose two things are possible. First would be our now fired ST just wasnt good a.d didn't think he could be a ST guy.

Second he didn't pick up the assignments for ST and was never able to Crack teams.

Also it could be that McVay wanted Rivers GD active as the 3rd RB and even if Hunter was decent in teams so is Rivers and McVay wanted Rivers active.

There could be many reasons none of us know and likely never will know. Even with not knowing cutting a 3rd round pick after one year is one of the worst ideas ever floated around on ROD or anywhere. He was t getting playtime at RB unless there was a terrible injury. And he's on a cheap rookie deal.

It's not too late to retract that statement! I'm not a lawyer but I have watched Castle and Law and Order so I'd advise you to do just that!

No one else has a sneaking suspicion that Kliff Kingsbury is the successor... and soon?
That's interesting as Kingsbury has not proven to be consistent as a head coach. Had some talent, did win some games with the Cardinals, but no playoff wins plus had Mahomes at Texas Tech. Overall Record in the NFL is 28–37–1 (.432) and in college 35-40 (.467). 0-1 in post season.

Not advocating for McVay to leave, this is only if he WANTS to take a break. We could do worse than having an offensive whiz like Kliff in our back pockets and I am not holding one iota of Arizona Cardinal-ness against him.

Ok, but then why did they move up in the draft to pick him? to literally ride the pine for an entire season? behind even Rivers?
I hope you're right. But maaann, not even 1 reg season snap in 2025? (he did get a few in pre-season)
I'm with you bro. After watching his college tape I was ready to see some long runs from a speedster.
However. :) I can understand that it was imperative to not put somebody on the field if "you feel" they're not ready and you have two talented veterans. A missed block on a blitz could have taken Stafford out for the season (potentially). I think it was a good move to let the guy watch from the sidelines and feel comfortable once he does go in. And they never knew prior to the beginning of the season when they drafted him if Williams or Corum might have an injury. I think we're going to see him play this year so I'm excited about that.

I thought (and still think) that McVay ... while he believes Kingsbury can help and be a positive addition ... was primarily throwing a Life-Line to a friend when he hired Kingsbury.

Do you think there's any validity to what McShay said he is hearing?

He may very well not be good at ST. Our hope is that he is good at RB and that obviously has to be seen. He has the speed. I hope we find that he was just needing polishing to get on the field in a pretty good RB room. I have my doubts that we are going after Love or another top back so I'd really like to see this kid get on the field. At least I hope I'd like it. :woozy:

Hunter made some excellent plays on special teams when he was available, even if it wasn't the starting kick returner. I view it as McVay not trusting rookies.

I think it was mostly about having Depth at a crucial position.

Expecting Williams and Corum to be healthy enough to play all seventeen games, is asking a lot, IMO. However, that's what happened in 2025; and the results were terrific. Three RBs are not needed if the top-two are both good and healthy but you better have a quality #3 RB in case of injury.

Of course there are exceptions. A dynamic work-horse back but those guys are few and far between.

As far as the Special Teams, a quality RB may not be of any use on Special Teams. Not like most of those guys played Teams in college or high school. Rivers was probably considered the superior special-teams-player. May even be superior to the top-two backs (Williams and Corum).

Finally, the fact that neither Williams, nor Corum played a ton in their rookie seasons, could also be a factor ... McVay and the Rams may have similar hope / expectations for Hunter ... that he has a productive 2nd year ... but he may need for one of the top-two-guys to go down before he gets any real work.

I think those commnets were a couple weeks old; and I have heard the same from other sources.

It's Reasonable Speculation based on McVay's past where ... by his own admission and comments ... he has discussed his approach to coaching and the impact on his life and family. However, in the past couple years he has also commented on the adjustments he has made to his coaching and life-style; and the impact stressful and demanding seasons (both successful and unsuccessful ones) have had on him.

Reasonable Speculation is Valid but it's also just Speculation.

I don't think Sean McVay knows how long he will coach.

The fact McVay's future has been subject for discussion in the past, probably means it will often be a subject for discussion by the talking heads ... most of whom have a gift for never admitting when they are wrong.
