I wouldn't put anything past Pete Rozelle (or David Stern) when it came to the almighty dollar. And Bubba Smith's views have been well documented.

I remember when Bubba Smith came-out with the accusation.
There was plenty of push-back (one example below).

Coincidentally, when Bubba Smith first made the accusation, his autobiography had just been published.

Below is the text of an article written by Pulitzer Prize winning author Dave Anderson:

'NEARLY 15 years after the fact, Bubba Smith has created fiction.

To anyone who will publish or listen to his irresponsible and undocumented theory, Bubba Smith suggests that the New York Jets' 16-7 victory in Super Bowl III was fixed. But he has yet to name anyone involved, except for a vague reference to the late Carroll Rosenbloom, then the Baltimore Colts' owner.

''It just happened,'' Bubba Smith has said, ''that I was part of something that I didn't think was right.''

It has probably not occurred to the former Colts' defensive end that he now is solely accountable for something that is not right. Without any evidence, he has challenged the integrity of his Colt teammates and Coach Don Shula, stained the memory of Carroll Rosenbloom and tainted the Jets' triumph.

Since his remarks were based only on unconfirmed conversations with a mysterious Miami cab driver, an unnamed New York bookie and unnamed members of the National Football League Players Association, he was morally wrong in going public with his story in a book, a magazine or television interviews.

Bubba Smith probably thought that he would inspire sales of his book by dropping a bombshell. If anything, he has lost his credibility by dropping a dud.'

Dave Anderson shilling for the NFL. No surprise there. CR was far from an angel. I've a copy of investigative reporter Dan E. Moldea's book INTERFERENCE: How Organized Crime Influences Professional Football. If anyone would allow their team to be part of a situation like that suspected, it would be CR. Interesting that the Colts were one of the three NFL teams to enter the AFC in 1970.

If the fix was in, there were 2 players who had very bad games. Earl Morrall and Lou Michaels. In addition to getting picked 3 times, Morrall "didn't see" a wide open, waving Jimmy Orr. He was picked off from inside the 10 on two of the three. Michaels missed an early 27 yard FG and a much more difficult 46 yarder later. But why disparage either if there's no proof? Especially when the easy answer is Bubba Smith and the Colts took the NY Jets very lightly. Bubba did have 1 sack but beyond that 0 tackles. Was he in on it?

Von Miller signing with Washington is another reason why that's an interesting team to watch in 2025.
Miller is WAYYYYY past prime. A hired gun that could provide depth to a team that feels Miller can help them get to the next level AND willing to pay his salary.

Didn't Bubba say that he approached the coaches and requested to be moved to the RDE because the Jets were making hay off the left side of their O Line. And the move was not made.

So Bubba Smith has more credibility than Dave Anderson ... or Earl Morrall ... ?!?

Personally, I am not a believer in many conspiracy theories. I think it's easy to create a conspiracy theory; and incredibly difficult to provide sufficient facts and information to give them much credibility.

Just my opinion; and, to be fair, while I'm familiar with Moldea's work, I have not read his book Interference.

But! ... As someone I respect, who is much smarter than me, says ...

Bubba has said a lot of stuff. Odd, that of all the players in that game, not to mention coaches, he's the lone voice of "the fix was in". IMO, nothing to see here, though if it was fixed to grow popularity and viewership of NFL football, THANK YOU, because we might not be where we are today without it!:laugh3:

What do you think of the Epstein situation? That is the conspiracy theory of all conspiracy theories?
I personally think he was extracted by the Israeli Mossad and is still alive. The ears of the corpse that was photographed did not match his and there is the much ballyhooed security tape manipulation along with other BS surrounding this that proves that the rulers of this world think the general populace is stupid and not worthy of truth and justice.

Guys ... Please don't take this the wrong way.

Miller had more sacks than Jared Verse in 2024 on one-third the snaps.

Not suggesting he is currently anywhere near the player Verse is ... and Verse was Great last season.
Just saying Miller could help Washington.

While I agree that Miller is 'way past his prime' and 'a hired gun' ... I also think he can be an effective designated edge-rusher and an asset in big late-season games and the playoffs. Washington isn't just building with youth, it's aggressively trying to take the next step .... which, based on last season would be the Super Bowl.

This off-season, they have added Tunsil, Samuel, three veteran DL and two veteran DBs. Personally, I hope it implodes but I still maintain that's an "interesting team" for a football fan to watch in 2025

I am going to pass on any substantive comments, primarily because THIS is not the place for THAT discussion.

But I will say ... YIKES!!!

I guess Goff fixed the Patriots super bowl then I guess....
I hate the fixing talk.
Impossible to prove to this point.
All that said.....can there be one form of entertainment I can just enjoy with it being shit on or destroyed?

.

Can someone please tell me what's happening with the bungals.

They still haven't signed their 1sr round pick, Stewart, and he's threatening to go back to college.

How does this happen in this day and age?

They drafted a piece of shit.

I called this after watching the Senior Bowl week practices, where he went in there and established himself initially then fucking disappeared. That plus his overall history told me the dude had bust written all over him. So an overinflated sense of self worth does not even remotely surprise me with him.

Doubt he'll ever do the work to be a stud at this level. He'll hang around a while, get paid, maybe get to a big payday, and that'll be a wrap.

He can if he hasn't accepted benefits from his agent like mo ey for clothes to attend the draft or for just living expenses.

It's very unlikely the agent hasn't helped in some financial way but it is possible.

He had 3 sacks in first 3 games then fell off a cliff. Most importantly - 1 tackle and 0 sacks in 3 playoff games.

I think the 'cliff' was an injury in Game 4 that cost him a month.

More relevant is that Washington's top Edge rushers are Frankie Luvu, Dorance Armstrong and Jacob Martin. Their top-pass rusher last season was Dante Fowler, who signed with Dallas.

Most relevant ... you don't think Von Miller can help them? OK ... I do.

While Shemar Stewart was on my no-draft list for the reasons you listed, the Bengals are mostly at fault for being so cheap with their contracts. Hendrickson wants out as well. Their second-round pick hasn’t gotten a contract signed either. Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, and a lot of other players before Shemar Stewart have had issues with negotiations as well. They don’t pay for a scouting department, they lowball their prospective coaches to get the cheap ones, etc.

At some point, the ownership has to be at fault, has to take the majority of the blame.

I’m admittedly down on Miller based on the way he handled his departure from the Rams. I’m a homer and I wanted him to stay but understood money motivates. I just think his handling was immature and not a good decision for him.
Yes he can help a team as depth, but he will likely wear out as a season progresses. But no, he cannot carry a team and I’m gonna take a look at how much they paid him because he is a spot player in my opinion not a starter.
