Wow, was not expecting that out of Hoecht. Might end up being nothing after appeals or shortened but that's a bummer for him. He's worked his ass off to go from UDFA to a decent free agent contract only to have that happen now.

What happened to him?

They always blame the trainer and the supplements.

Well, David Vobora (remember this blast from the past) actually had a case against the supplements that landed him a six week suspension and won a lawsuit. Hoecht being honest and forthcoming makes it seem likely he really was screwed by his trainer.

That's the whole point. Not like he can hide this forever.

And yes, supplements have been juiced in the past to make a name for themselves. These juiced supplements then remove the juice, but people still buy it for years because of the rep that "it works." Word gets around and people take these juiced supplements because it gives them plausible deniability.

Ultimately, there's no reason to ingest supplements from non-established brands, especially when getting popped for PEDs by your employer is a concern.

Right, but being honest, forthcoming and admitting it was his mistake to continue trusting without making sure makes it a lot better on him than merely saying the stock phrase, which he did not say.

I dunno Mems. What was he supposed to say? It seemed about as canned as any other excuse. True or not, a player has to at least look into what is being fed to him. I have a hard time with the whole didn’t know defense.

He could’ve said nothing about the whole process like Ogunjobi (whom the Bills didn’t know had a suspension incoming for him) did. The Rams knew and the Bills knew about Hoecht’s incoming suspension, where Ogunjobi told nobody, lied by omission.

And sometimes, players literally don’t know. We should know that lesson from Vobora because he gave a similar answer to Hoecht’s. What helps him, in my eyes, is being honest about the whole thing and admitting it was his mistake in not looking in the first place.

Hopefully no other Rams used the same stuff.

A player in the nfl not using PEDS is less likely than likey, let's not pretend it's otherwise.

Sure, lots of guys don't use anabolics (many still do!) but many also use T, HGH, GHB, etc..

Saying they took a supplement is a ruse even if it's true that 1-2 players over the years got hit for ephedra or something in a supplement that didn't label it.

It makes me sick when players like TuTu and Forbes get those unnatural gains and can barely fit through a mouse door.

In my career I think every single idiot I saw who popped positive for drugs had some long and ridiculous story about how they were victimized by circumstance. Accountability is fucking rare.

I am sure there's been a player who has admitted to taking them and left it at that. But I can't recall one.

Not football, but my respect for Jason Giambi grew when he admitted that he took PEDs without any excuses and apologized to the fans, especially the kids.
