I’d be very interested in giving Za’Darius Smith a longterm contract. He’s a elite edge, able in both rushing the passer and stopping the run.
Rumors are be very afraid of the back. Sounds like he failed the physical.

I’d still give him a deal. Rodger Saffold failed a physical, and it turned out to be a blessing for us. Smith is elite at his best.

Saffold never sat out a whole year due to said injuries did he? Smith just did that played one snap/series and was out.

And yet it was Smith who reneged on apparent verbal commitment at the last minute. It doesn't sound like either the Ravens or Smith himself seem overly concerned about his back issue. Then again, that was before a physical can be taken. I'm not saying it's not a concern but I feel it may be a bit overblown.

In any case, I want Za'Darius Smith if he checks out. If not, I'd be willing to go with Jadeveon Clowney as a second option on a reasonable deal.

Like what @Ranma said (love the username, by the way; did you get it off of the anime?), it was Smith who backed out. I hope he takes a deal with us.

I'd just bring Fowler back. He knows the defense and can at least fill depth. Just has to come cheap/affordable and I'd make the deal short.

Really hoping the Rams pull off that rumored Minnesota move though. :laugh1:

Does he know the defense?

His last season with the Rams was 2019, under Wade Phillips.

Staley came-in in 2020 and changed things up, with Morris this past season adding his spin to Staley's D.

Don't shoot the messenger, also the GM of the Ravens just said they weren't able to agree to terms. DeCosta will talk more bout it in coming days but to assume this was Smith backing out remains a question. Interesting though that he's such a hot commodity and nobody else has signed him yet.

Fair enough. I just think Smith would be a great signing.

Clowney doesn’t strike me as a “Rams Type”.

Not sure why I say that, other than the fit doesn’t feel right from my perception of his personality.

And, he’s never lived up to his reputation… and its not been without opportunity. The Rams don’t have a track record of signing these types. They seem to like the guys who could emerge in their environment; Woods, Stafford, Robinson.

He was gone before Staley, but I’d take him

Jerry Hughes should be cheap and still plays well

If he's healthy absolutely. But the guy missed an entire season with a back injury that has been since labeled as chronic and Packers fans who love the guy describe it as a wrecked back. That's a seriously huge red flag. I brought up a month ago he would be a good signing and could be cheap on an injury rebound deal. But it's a major issue and it took him long enough to "decide not to sign" with them to have a physical and fail it. Pretty strange coincidence when you think about the fact as well there have been zero rumors of other teams in on him in spot of half the league or more needs him.

In reality that play would’ve worked against most defensive backs.
Apple isn't bad or terrible or any of that. His problem is he talked too much before the game and didn't back it up. It's bad when he got roasted like he did on twitter by other current players.
