It's funny how we all drill down on the losses like we should win them when at the bg of the season we all thought they would suck. Suddenly Dotson, Avila, Witherspoon, Puka, Young, Evans, Turner, KW show a ton of promise and we expect to be good due to those additions a healthy Kupp and Stafford and that 1st Seattle win was so dominant unfortunately this will be the case all year long. To hard to change course now even if we find an upgrade at Kicker (not hard to do) and a OLB at the trade deadline maybe makes us slightly better, but not elite.
To me it is a combo of issues both on offense and defense. Before I blamed everything on the defense but unfortunately the offense needs some blame because it is really solid on paper this year: the running game is better, Stafford is healthy the emergence of Puka and Tutu and the OL is solid not great but solid. For some reason they are not consistent. Based on Avila, Dotson and emergence of Tutu, KW and Puka we should be north of 27 ppg imo and we are not close. Staffords completion percentage is terrible 61% near bottom of the league why is that something is off with him.
It will be a rollercoaster season.
Potential is the one word to describe the Rams. So much potential to be a playoff team and conversely they are not living up to their potential.
I think it's a combination of having a really young team and replenishing the ranks. Young teams lack consistency which is what we're seeing in games. It's the reason why one minute we look unstoppable and the next we look incompetent. Others have pointed it out, with the lack of consistency we aren't good enough (yet) to overcome those adversities. That takes time and experience. Take our SB run for example. There were times where the Rams made similar mistakes and came back and won. Look no further than the Playoff game against the Bucks. You think this team could do what the Rams did? Give up a 20+ point advantage, only to go let it slip away late in the 4th quarter and come back and win on a last second field goal? No way. I know some of you will point out the Colts game this season however, that's the colts and they are not a playoff team. Far from it actually.
Problem is the Rams don't really have time on their side right now. Stafford maybe has what? One to two good years left in him? I don't see him playing until he's 40+. Then we'll be looking for our next QB, and that's always a crap shoot especially if you plan on drafting someone. So in reality, the Rams have a long road a head of them, I do believe McSnead is very capable of putting together a great roster but it's going to take time, and I don't think this is the year to expect anything beyond an average team with a lot of upside. Look at the Lions as a prime example of where the Rams are trending.
