2025 NFL key offseason dates

@CGI_Ram started last years and just saw an article so figured I'd get it out here since the first big date is a few days away.

Starting now

Trade negotiating: All NFL teams are permitted to discuss and/or agree to any trades involving players or draft picks. However, if a trade includes players on existing contracts, it cannot be finalized and processed until the start of the league year in March (see below).

Feb. 18

Franchise tag window opens: NFL teams can begin applying the franchise or transition tag -- fixed one-year contract offers -- to players with expiring contracts.

Feb. 24-March 3

Scouting combine: Some of college football's top prospects will undergo workouts and NFL team interviews at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, in preparation for the draft.

March 4

Franchise tag deadline: At 4 p.m. ET, teams are no longer permitted to apply the franchise or transition tag to eligible players. Players who've been tagged, however, do not yet have to sign their contract.

March 10

Free agent negotiating period begins: Starting at 12 p.m. ET, all NFL teams can contact and negotiate potential contracts with the certified agents of players with expiring contracts. Agreements can be reached in principle, but they cannot be officially signed.

March 12

New league year: At 4 p.m. ET, the 2025 offseason officially gets underway, meaning any negotiated contracts or trades can be finalized and processed. Any free agent or trade discussions that begin after this point can be finalized immediately.

March 30-April 2

Annual league meeting: NFL owners will gather in Palm Beach, Florida, to discuss proposed rule changes and other league matters.

April 7

Offseason programming begins: NFL teams that hired a new head coach -- the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints and New York Jets -- are eligible to gather for spring workouts.

April 18

Restricted free agent deadline: Any players without contracts as restricted free agents (three or fewer accrued NFL seasons) must sign an offer received by their respective teams, or remain free agents.

April 21

Offseason programming expands: All NFL teams can begin spring workouts.

April 24-26

2025 NFL Draft: Teams will select college prospects in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

May 1

Fifth-year option deadline: NFL teams wishing to exercise the fifth-year option built into the contracts of 2022 first-round draft picks must do so by this date.

May 2

Rookie minicamps begin: Starting now, NFL teams are able to hold one three-day minicamp (from Friday to Sunday or Saturday to Monday) on one of the two weekends following the draft.

May 20-21

Spring league meeting: NFL owners will gather to discuss league matters in the Minneapolis area.

July 15

Franchise tag extension deadline: Teams desiring to sign tagged players to long-term contract extensions must do so by 4 p.m. ET, or said players will be required to play under the tag in 2025.

Mid-July

Training camps open: NFL teams can begin their summer training camps, first for rookies, then for veterans, in preparation of the 2025 preseason and regular season.

Foreign Pronunciation of Munchen

This might be a one and done topic question, but it's bugging me!
A few years ago I took German at university., although I don't remember that much about the language, which is a shame. BUT the pronunciation of Munich has never been explained to me where I understand it In German with the umlaut ("u" with two dots over the "u").
The English speaking world, along with Germans pronouncing it in English way as Munich (Mewnick). In German it's spelled as Munchen and pronounced like Mewnken. WHY?!?!
It's been explained to me that Germans can pronounce a town's name in anyway that they want, which I understand. But why pronounce it differently in one language and not enforce the actual spelling and pronunciation in German (Deutschland) in English as well? Welp, they do it with more than one geographical name!

One way that makes sense to me comes from an exchange daughter from South Korea. Her name is spelled something like Seon Young and I could never get the pronunciation correct, which frustrated us both. After a while she informed us that her English name was now "Kylie." lol. So because stupid Americans couldn't pronounce her actual name and was tired of hearing her American Dad butcher it, she changed it to a different English name. Could that be the reason for "Munich"?

Sleeping With The Enemy

I've got 3 sons. Two of them are Badass Ram Fans... but the other one decided that he was going to be a colts fan. The colt fan has a nickname from his friends, it's Poon Slayer. Well guess whose Poon he's slaying now...

A young lady who moved here from Boston a few months ago. She was a Cheatriot cheerleader for a number of years. This young lady's closest friend is Belicheat"s current 20-something yr old girlfriend. LOL

He snagged this from her last night. The cheerleaders got these from team instead of rings...

Whoops... posted this before I was finished by mistake. I corrected some spell check insanity and added my question now.

My question on this to you is... would you bang the enemy like this, or would you tell her to hit the road?

I think I would have banged too...

Best Rams RB of all time top 5

Eric Dickerson
Marshall Faulk (Greatest show on EARTH)
Stephen Jackson
Todd Gurley (Close 3rd and 2nd to those guys) If not for injury he would of destroyed them both.
Dick Bass technically declared as a full back averaging 4.4 YPC and an underrated 9 YPC as a fullback compiling 34 TDs
I know Bettis and McCutheon are on this list as well but Bass makes his case as rarely getting the ball as much as the rest.

Defensive Coordinators

Watching yesterday's Super Bowl and the two defensive coordinators involved, Spags and Fangio, I couldn't help but think about what a disadvantage we really had going into, not only the regular season, but the playoffs as well. Those two coordinators have about as much experience in the NFL as anyone and have probably seen more offenses than any of us will ever dream of seeing. Don't get me wrong, I think Shula made great strides throughout the season and, if not for three catastrophic breakdowns vs the Eagles, we have a great chance of playing in the Super Bowl. Think about it. We had a defense full of rookies and second year players and a man leading them with very limited experience. If we had Spags or Fangio do we beat the Eagles? I think we do. Did our defense improve from Week 1 to Week 18? Hell yes. Hopefully, Shula watches a ton of film over the offseason, figures out what worked and what didn't, and makes adjustments. I think he'll only get better now that he knows his personnel and has a season under his belt. Our problem is, we only have Stafford for another year or so (if we're lucky) and that window is rapidly closing. Let's hope we can put it all together next year. We were so close this season.

A hypothetical question here:

If we stay at 26 and decide to go with a CB, and all these players are still on the board, who do you take and why?

We'll assume that Travis Hunter and Will Johnson are long gone, obviously.

Eagles secondary

I was curious how many of you all think that the drafting of Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell solidified their defense as Elite?

If so, should the Rams do the same this draft? Considering that ILB will also be addressed in FA or the Draft.

Considering the Eagles are about to win the Superbowl, I thought it was a good general discussion. MOD's please move to Draft section if need be

Rams' Coaching Staff (2025)

Thought it might be good to have a thread dedicated to the Rams’ Coaching Staff.

Clearly, I need a life but we’ll save that topic for another thread.

I am a big believer that one of McVay’s many strengths is building a strong and versatile staff. Not as many staff changes as recent years but there have been a few, and a number of new head coaches are still building their staffs.

The Staff Defections thus far include Nick Caley (TE-coach and Pass-Game-Coordinator), John Streicher, who held the title of Coordinator of Football Strategy and A.C. Carter (assistant-DL-coach)

Caley made a nice jump to be the Offensive Coordinator of the talented Houston Texans, with a strong, young head coach that has a defensive background. Caley could well be in-line for a head coaching opportunity within a couple years.

Streicher joined the Patriots, reuniting with Mike Vrabel. Streicher was on Vrabel’s staff in Tennessee. It will be interesting to see if McVay hires or assigns a coach to fill Streicher’s role. It’s tough to gauge his impact in 2025 but there was little criticism of McVay’s game-time management this year.

Carter got an elevated position to be the Edge-coach in Carolina. Less stability in Carolina but Ejiro Evero is a well thought of Defensive Coordinator; and Carter’s title is a clear promotion.

As far as Staff Additions, McVay hired Former Ravens, Giants and Patriots LB-coach Drew Wilkins, with the title of Pass-Rush Coordinator. Wilkins is a disciple of former Ravens and Giants DC Don “Wink” Martindale; and was viewed as his right-hand-man. I don’t believe anyone was designated a pass-rush-coordinator in 2024.

Just yesterday, the Rams … partially … replaced Caley, with the hiring of Scott Huff as the new TE-coach. Huff was on Mike McDonald’s staff last season, as the Seahawks’ OL-coach but was let go (I believe) when McDonald changed offensive coordinators.

Huff is an interesting hire. Prior to Seattle, he was a college coach; and mostly coached the offensive line but did have some TE coaching experience earlier in his career. Could such a hiring reflect some changes in McVay’s 2025 offensive game-planning?

Should McVay designate a coach to fill Caley’s role as a pass-game-coordinator, will it be from the outside, or internal. I wonder if Offensive-Assistant / Pass-Game Specialist Nate Scheelhaase might get a promotion. Scheelhaase (34) got some OC interviews, and seems like a riser.

I think that is an up-to-date summary.
