Perkins is not an NFL QB.
Since this is a dedicated post.. I'll repeat this..
Wolford is most likely back as the backup next year.. but they need to draft a QB with some real potential. They'll need to carry three QBs.. unless/until that rookie shows enough to be relied on.
They're not going to spend relatively big $ on a backup... too many needs.
Maybe. Not a huge fan of either Mayfield or Darnold; and do not consider it likely that either is a Ram in 2023.I think Baker is the guy. McVay loved him as a prospect. He reportedly said he would have traded the farm for Baker if we didn't have Goff. Baker is at a crossroads for his career. I think he'll be willing to accept a cheaper deal to find the right situation. This is a great situation for him.
It's a win-win all around. Baker comes here to work on his game under a heralded offensive coach, and if Stafford returns, we have a good backup. I want nothing to do with Sam Darnold. He started for years and never looked like a guy who could be something imo.
My disappointment with Wolford is the ball sailing on him.
We saw that when he played before but honestly not as bad. That can be a lack of arm strength issue or dropping the elbow. He's not a huge guy, so, it may even be a grip thing.
McVay pretty clearly trusts him more to run the offense......problem is, is there a plausible offense left to run?
Id like to see both QBs get some reps to be honest....mix run and pass with both and see if someone gets hot.
I took some time to watch him after people started bringing him up.
I hate this fucking loser Wolford another COASTER he must go. He almost got our franchise WR killed. He has been in our organization for 3 years one word assume he should be good QB by now but no I will never forgive him for what he did to Kupp.My disappointment with Wolford is the ball sailing on him.

If either of those guys were open to being a backup and future starter in development.. and signing for dirt cheap? I'd consider it.. AND draft another QB.Maybe. Not a huge fan of either Mayfield or Darnold; and do not consider it likely that either is a Ram in 2023.
I was thinking more about what is realistic and practical than a preference. Considered age (Darnold's two years younger) and where they come from (CA vs. TX) as factors. Saw plenty of Darnold here in New York, and I'm not trying to make a case for him as the better player. However, I do think Mayfield had better talent.
There are always teams standing in the Game of Musical Chairs for a starting QB. Next off-season should be more of the same. As @CGI_Ram wrote, on Mayfield, I don't see either being handed a starting-QB job but either could be offered an opportunity to compete for a starting-spot on one of those teams without a Chair.
I see Mayfield more likely to grab such an opportunity; and, maybe, Darnold looks for a re-set on his career, with a one-year deal. If either or both are prepared to take a clear back-up role, then money becomes an important factor; and I don't think the Rams will be able to pay well.
All this conjecture is based on Stafford returning as the clear #1 QB.
By-the-Way, as I am writing this on a Sunday morning of Week 12, I'm thinking how much it SUCKS for me to be more focused on conjecture for the Rams' future back-up QB than the games that will be played in a few hours. This season has been an awful disappointment.
I don't - another COASTER - like Wolford he has been in the same system for 3 years, coached by great coaches and watched Stafford and Goff and McVay wouldn't let him pass - pathetic - 3 yards passing by halftime. Doesn't show much confidence in him by McVay.I'm in disagreement on Perkins. I see real potential in the guy...BUT...from what I've seen, to me it's obvious Perkins hasn't been getting the work he needs. The guy is basically a rookie. I'd rather see him start today than Wolford. As has been said, Wolford's ball sails on him, which is from bad footwork throwing.
I've been wrong before...but I'd rather have Perkins out there. If he doesn't start...I'd be willing to bet he comes in to replace Wolford, or...McVay will use both guys today.
As for Stafford...I think he's here for another year and hangs it up.
Things like "sounds like a leader".....that stuff means nothing. None of us have any idea how guys are perceived, accepted or who actually leads in the locker room. Who is respected and who is not.....no idea from anyone posting here.I hate this fucking loser Wolford another COASTER he must go. He almost got our franchise WR killed. He has been in our organization for 3 years one word assume he should be good QB by now but no I will never forgive him for what he did to Kupp.
Listen to him talk he doesn't seem to sound like a leader he sounds like an unsure backup. 3 years of reps, tutoring from elite coaches several are HCs on other teams and watching and learning from 2 great starters and this is the best he can do. Got to go. There are better.
In what round?I'd dump both wolf and Perkins. They serve zero purpose. Draft a QB next year with potential and if Stafford gets hurt again he isn't going to be any worse than Perkins or Wolf.
I'd say 4th rounder would be pretty safe. Or signing a FA prospect with upside. In what round?
How high a pick are you going to invest in a back up QB?
Because the odds of finding the guy who checks all the boxes in the 6th round are very slim.
Likely to end up with guys like we currently have.
The bummer yesterday, to me, was that it was just a dumb decision that really hurt Wolford the most. That first interception was terrible.Things like "sounds like a leader".....that stuff means nothing. None of us have any idea how guys are perceived, accepted or who actually leads in the locker room. Who is respected and who is not.....no idea from anyone posting here.
He certainly throws the ball better than Perkins.
The biggest draw back with Wolford as a back up is lack of arm strength. This is also likely the most common issue with back ups. The reality is most guys that check the boxes....good size, athleticism to run or buy time, great arm strength, mental acuity, accuracy, toughness....those guys are starting in the league. Rarely is a back up not lacking in at least one and usually more than one category.
The problem with the "get a good back up" idea is the reality of getting one.
That means either investing a high pick to find one, paying veteran millions and hope you don't have to play him or just getting lucky.
A top notch back up would not have made much of a difference with this team this year.
Smart move, he'll go higher next year.QB Michael Penix Jr. set to return to Washington for 2023
Standout Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will be returning to the Huskies for the 2023 season, he announced Sunday night.www.stltoday.com
Looking into the future den? That's good! Nows the time to get going with the plan!
I think that's a decent assumption.. but it doesn't always work out that way.Smart move, he'll go higher next year.
