Mathew Golden, the weapon who made Texas look good.

He has elite route-running, separation and speed.

Imagine him and Puka, and Kupp in the slot.

We grab at RT in the third.

And an athletic LB in the fourth.

Then we take some flyers.

I think they try and trade down unless someone like Jahdae Barron or another cant miss type is there unexpectedly. I think rounds two and three are kind of the sweet spot in the draft. That said I would not hate it if Golden were the pick.

Round 1, No. 26: TE Colston Loveland, Michigan

Tyler Higbee looked great in his return to the field but he’s also 31 years old and has just one year left on his contract. Colby Parkinson hasn’t worked out and neither Hunter Long nor Davis Allen made big leaps in 2024.

Enter Colston Loveland, one of the top tight ends in the class.

Loveland is 6-foot-5 and is a terrific athlete, making him a legitimate receiving threat at the tight end spot. The Rams lacked playmakers around Puka Nacua last season and Loveland would give them a player who can catch passes down the seam and stretch field against linebackers and safeties.

In the last two years at Michigan, Loveland caught 101 passes for 1,231 yards and nine touchdowns. The Rams badly need a tight end who can threaten the defense vertically and Loveland would give them just that.

After missing out on Brock Bowers last year, Sean McVay gets his tight end this offseason.

I hear what you are saying and I too like Loveland... but I can`t justify taking a low value position in the first round. To me the first round is QB, Edge, LT or WR ONLY.

A TE, even the guy in Detroit, is of marginal value schematically or in terms of W/L. I mean think about LaPorta`s contribution in the playoffs against Washing.

IMO, I do not put Edge that high on the list as to QB, well, not sure one will fall to them at 26 and if they sign Alaric Jackson, then LT slides to a degree. Overall, free agency will also give us the path to the draft too, but have a feeling TE is on the list, however, you can grab some others in the 3rd round as it is a deep class for TE's.

Golden would be a nice pick. I'm leaning towards him not being there at our pick, but the combine weighs heavily on that. Great route running and very athletic sound like a McVay kind of guy to me.

I'd really love Warren, but, I've given up that hope. I could see McVay loving Fannin and his production.

Interesting. What round are you thinking? And are you saying that a hybrid TE is more valuable than a WR?
Whomever is the biggest matchup problem is the most valuable. That's the deal with Kupp. He used to provide this team with a great matchup problem in the slot, but those days seem gone now.

IMO, that's Arroyo. Otherwise, I'd have no interest in a TE in the first round at all. Especially in such a deep TE draft class.

Travis Kelce and Gronk to name two recently - both very high value players and hugely important/impactful to their teams winning multiple SBs.

Neither of which were drafted in the first round.

I’m not sure your point. Neither was Tom Brady (nor Brees, Montana, Farve, Warner, etc) - doesn’t mean you don’t select a top QB you want in the 1st round.

Was reading today Golden stock is majorly on the rise and a good bet to land in the 1st round now. 26 perhaps?

Sorry, I lost track of what we were talking about. I was talking about a WR (X) being a priority in the 1st round. TE are great in later rounds.

I was along that line of thinking weeks ago. Today, I wondering now if he makes it to #26.

Oddly enough the WR I beginning to wonder about who might surprise and be available there is Luther Burden III.

Combine will clear a lot of things up for us I guess.

Yeah, he could easily rise above Burden who wasn't as impressive this season. I definitely wouldn't mind taking Burden either.
