Which Rams do you think will be released soon or not re-signed?

I've been thinking about this all weekend, and I believe we will let every UFA walk. Every single one.

I think McVay is going to hit the reset button, use the cap space to supplement the offensive line and hit the defense hard in the draft.

If Weddle retires, does that save money as opposed to cutting him?

I think they should franchise tag Fowler, and hope for a trade and transition tag Littleton and hope he takes a reasonable, matchable deal

Weddle & Matthews will be released.

NRC will be traded. A lot of teams would give a decent pick for a good nickel CB ... Maybe as high as a late 4th from a contending team like KC.

All 3 save a total of $12M in cap space.

Whether they use that to pay Littleton or Fowler or spend it elsewhere, will be interesting.

I still think they tag Fowler and try to work out a trade. They have enough space to tie that cap space up for awhile because they can't spend it all anyway since some will eventually be spent on Ramsey and possibly on Kupp or Johnson's extensions.

Fowler has built his stats on weaker teams, but this isn't uncommon. He has 4 sacks against teams with winning records and 7.5 against sub .500 teams. 6 TFL's against teams with winning records, 9 against sub .500 teams.

No doubt that Donald is a net plus for Fowler, although he's still young and considered an ascending player. Someone is going to pay Fowler a lot of money, I doubt it will be the Rams. jmo.

I see us doing what the Ravens did last year, and hopefully will field similar success the following season.

They let almost every long-tenured Raven go and revamped their team on the fly. Donald can anchor the D to a respectable finish - go all in with Goff and get the OL to where it needs to be, whatever it takes.

Yup the only way out right now is a trade.

And..........for those thinking GZ should be released here is some relevant info. Very few guys have his range. He's not perfect, but he's excellent. He had a down year and I suspect he has a nagging injury.

From 57 yards away he put the Rams in the SB. Many coaches wouldn't have even tried because their kicker doesn't have enough power and they wouldn't want to risk giving Brees and the Saints excellent field position to kick their own FG to win. So on that 4th and 7 they would be giving the ball back to the Saints via a punt.

And he nailed a 48 yarder to tie at the end of regulation too.

This isn't a guy you cut loose. He can make it from 60 yards out. Those kinds of kickers are rarer than hen's teeth. At the end of a game he can get the win from a long way away. He won't make all of them but he makes more than most kickers.

Remember the 66 yarder versus the Dolphins that he missed? It didn't fall short, it was wide. How many kickers could do tat?

If he struggles next year then maybe it's time to move on, but not yet.

Not sure about your question, we may be able to avoid his bonus if he retires, but it didn't sound like he was going to do that, he made it sound like it's now in the Rams corner.

Yes to the tags, even if only temporarily held. Trading them would certainly be better than letting them just walk.

I get what you're saying, and on its own merit might not be a big deal, but if the Rams are considering Hill and/or Robey-Coleman as potential CAP Casualties, seems they may want to get him under contract. jmo.
 
We have some tough choices.

Personally, I'd be fine letting Weddle and Matthews go if the savings meant we could resign Fowler or Littleton. Our LB corps is nothing really special so far, unless some depth player really catches fire, so I'd hate to lose both Fowler and Littleton. I'd like to keep Fowler most, maybe pair him with Patrick/ or another reliable edge. We need a big run stuffing LB, then, and hopefully Ebu, Young, or Howard can be good depth and/or replace Littleton.

Brockers and NRC can be replaced, especially if we could trade NRC for a 4th.

GZ had a down year, but you don't want to be the Bears or in a similar situation where kickers are continually costing you games.

Whitworth has slipped, granted, but I wouldn't mind him back for one last run. I can't think of anyone else on the roster right now that would be a better option for protecting Goff's blindside. Noteboom was untested there even before the knee injury, and I'm not sure Evans or Edwards is the answer there. If he could do one more season, at least until the rest of the line is sorted out (we need a center and maybe another guard, assuming Hav or Evans can handle RT duties), that might be a nice approach.

I could see Thomas leaving, probably Blythe unless we could resign him for cheap OL depth, and I'm iffy on Christian though he might be needed depth if Weddle leaves. I'm not sure Natson isn't expendable as well.

We need to do whatever it takes to find a way to improve both lines and maybe the middle of the LBs. That and some coaching changes/additions (I could see Wade leaving and I would love to see McVay take on an OC or someone in a similar role) might just make for a great 2020. Of course, a rejuvenated Gurley and a more consistent Goff would do wonders, too, but fixing the O line would do wonders for both.

Still smarts that we're the only winning team watching the playoffs, but I feel optimistic about the future. Lots of years that couldn't be said about this team.
