I'm personally very much hoping Willis sees the light and the praise our coaching/front office get from established vets and signs here to be the future at QB1 after 1 year learning from the pro's pro at QB. Then use the draft to fill our weaknesses (defense, 3rd WR, swing OT, etc). Starting your career as a franchise QB with a ring already on your hand, has to be somewhat appealing.

I’m not advocating for Bennet, but is a day 3 pick going to be what the organization has in plans for our future starter?

Because Bennett is going in to the final year of his rookie deal and hadnt been able to elevate to the #2 role. So they can draft a QB to replace him as the #3 QB and either Bennett elevates to the #2, or gets cut with 0$ guaranteed money and could go to the PS
I was not a Bennett fan or approved of his selection, but I have to tip my cap to him on how he has come back and provided the Rams with solid QB play in preseason. So anything is possible, however, I am anxious to see what they do. I believe the Rams might trade for someone (Will Levis) and then draft someone else, Talen Green or Cole Payton, thus maybe looking to deal Bennett or have him compete against the others, which Bennett seems to do very well.
Exactly. The Rams may get Bennett to agree to a cheap enough deal if they really like him as QB2, but why not hedge your bets at the low cost of a midround pick.
I disagree on solid play in pre-season. He was great in the 4th Q against scrubs who didnt even make practice squads
He improved from his rookie season but at soon to be 29 years old hasnt shown the ability to play at the NFL level
I agree with you. If we get a new, younger guy, he's gonna have to go through the same growth trajectory that Bennett has undergone. Any late round guy from this class is highly likely to be inferior to Bennett next season.
Huh? Can you find that? I don't recall him saying that and I don't think I've ever heard of a GM describing someone they drafted as a player they looked at to be a back-up. I mean, we obviously knew he wasn't going to play ahead of Staff but a GM saying a player is never going to be the guy?
This is why a midround QB pick fits for the Rams. Bennett can serve as QB2 this year, then he's gone in the 2027 offseason as a FA. By that time the midround QB will have two camps under his belt and should be able to serve as a QB2 for us. If they hit on him as QB2 which is not the highest of bars.
The smaller framed types in this draft fit if that is their plan. If on the other hand they plan on retaining Jimmy or trading for their QB2 or signing someone else, then one of the bigger options who have a little more upside makes more sense.

Because it's a weird class, and because they mostly have smaller framed types, I feel a better plan would be to sign Bennett to an extension next year. We're only paying Garoppolo like $2 mil. and he has starting experience, so Bennett may be the vet minimum.
Since it's not a strong class, may as well go with the guy you've been developing for 4-5 years.
QB's are the most important position and come at high risk in any round.
We spent a 4th on an RB that had a red shirt year, taking a shot at a QB on day 3 is a minimal investment.

If they get Jimmy locked up at a cheap rate that's fine. Just would surprise me because I think he could do better on the market.
Also I am fine with them locking up Bennett as the backup. He just would need to be super cheap.
Advantage of taking the midround QB is you get the cost controlled, first contract QB2 from his 2nd through his 4th year, so for three years. And if you get lucky you find an outlier. Recent example of that would be the Colts, who took Leonard late rounds last year and he looked pretty damn good for them that last week in Houston and may be an outlier for them.
Yeah, one overlooked aspect of getting a rookie QB in rd 1 as a potential future starter, assuming Stafford may only play one more year, is that it will make Nacua's contract, and any other player they extend, more affordable. The fact that Stafford and Adams could both be off the books by 2027 or 28' at the latest, will keep our cap and roster in good shape going forward.
First, I think that Bennett would be super cheap. Backup QBs with no starting experience typically get the vet minimum. Even Jimmy G has signed for the last 2 years at something close to the minimum.
But help me out. What's the connection between getting Jimmy locked up at a cheap rare and signing/extending Bennett? Stetson looked pretty good in preseason last year, so it's entirely possible that McVay is ready to roll with him as QB2 now, no Jimmy needed.
Personally, though, I think they try to bring them both back and roll with the QB situation they had this year.
I think Stafford is going to cost more. So one way to absorb some of that is cut cost at QB2.
Jimmy is gone this year in FA. If Bennett plays his final cost controlled year as our QB2 in 2026 he provides us a cost savings. And remember it's not just cost savings of what Jimmy made in 2025, but what he would cost us in 2026. Or what another QB we would go get in FA or trade would cost us.
If they draft a QB this year midrounds that QB serves as our QB3 in 2026 but then moves up to QB2 in 2027. And we'd have three cost controlled QB2 years thereafter.
Now if they go get let's say Levis in trade for QB2 in 2026 then he hits the market after the season and there's another decision point.
