I expect the Rams are looking for a QB2 in this draft, to take over that role in '27 when Bennett leaves in FA. If that is the case then the small QBs are all in play. And of those small QBs I'd guess they take Klubnik because he's mobile, feels the rush reasonably well, and has enough arm. His weaknesses don't matter so much if it is a QB2 role they see him filling, where ok maybe if he develops we have a bridge QB potentially as well.
But it's also possible they want a guy with all the tools to cook on the depth chart for a year or two. If so then it's one of the bigger QBs they would target that they like his work ethic, personality, etc and project he has a chance. That's when you get into the guys like Payton, Allar, etc.
Strength of the smaller dudes in this class are that they look more ready to run an offense earlier as a QB2. But we don't know what the Rams plans are there. They may plan to keep Bennett in that role at a cheap contract level, who knows.

Is it concerning? They were a run-first offense. He had a TD% of 7.1%. For reference, Stafford led the NFL with a TD% of 7.7% in 2025.
Nobody is denying that the lack of starting experience and low number of pass attempts are problems. But also, they're less problematic because nobody is advocating drafting him in Round 1. I don't see much merit to statistical criticisms. The numbers he put up were fine.
It is concerning. Were they run first because they didn’t have a QB who could be dependable in a pass first offense? Were they designed runs or is he not seeing the field or going through progressions so he is quick to use his legs. The jump from college to the pros is hard enough, let alone for an inexperienced player coming from his level of competition,
Is he “one year away” from being able to replace Stafford? Because if that answer is no, then he’s not worth the time developing. Stafford, if he does decide to give it another year, probably has one year left given all the offseason stuff he’s been putting out there over the last few seasons. We need a plug and play, or one year away player.
I'm in the camp with you on this draft strategy.
Don't know what the Rams brass' take is on this, but I'm thinking that they know that our window is now, and "eff them draft the BPA picks" nonsense for at least this go around, anyways.
There's plenty of talent and choices at our positions of need this draft, IMO.

No, they were run first because that has been their offense for years. Since 2021, their starting QB has thrown for 20+ TDs only once.
And when has any of them done anything significant in the NFL? Carson Wentz was the last one?

Well, for one thing all 3 QB's could be gone after 26'. Of course Jimmy could leave now, but if he comes back on a one year deal again, then you could head into the 27' off-season with no returning QB's. Not sure that's ideal.

Who cares? Cole Payton is Cole Payton. They've had a run-first offense for years. They didn't suddenly implement one because he can't throw the ball. The prior QB, Cam Miller, was drafted in the 6th round last year. So they haven't had bums at the position.
