Teams taking a player doesn't validate or invalidate a fan's opinion of where a player should go. Only the player's actual performance in this league can do that.
I finally voted in the poll. I took option #1. Hopefully hindsight truly is 20/20.

Staff unfortunately won't be around long, and chances we pick this high in the near future are IMO slim.
If Stafford retires, we would have to spend multiple 1's to get a primo QB for McVay (see Goff).
This pick can preserve all those future 1's for our use.

I have not read all of the posts in this thread and so.forgive me if Iam repeating another’s thoughts. I wanted an impact Player at pick #13, to be clear, but I have no illusions that I am even an armchair GM. I looked over Ty Simpson highlights and I liked what I saw. Limited stats for one year is a negative, but that doesn’t mean he will suck. I liked his decision making in the first 8 games for Bama
The interview with McSnead, people say that McVay looked like he was there against his will and maybe this was more of a Snead pick than a collaboration.
Ian Rapoport said something true. McVay has to be sensitive to Stafford by not being overly joyous about the pick in a press conference. Stafford could go elsewhere if he became offended by the situation This made sense to me.

Counting on a Young QB is tough.Learning from a HOF QB seems like a good way to stay an apprenticeship in a way.
Back in the Day you’d work 2 years at minimal pay learning a trade.There’s no Pressure on Ty Simpson other than he needs to continue to learn.He seems like a different kid than most entering The NFL.
If Stafford retires at the end of 2026 ? In fact I don’t know,but my perception is I’d rather a QB that is mobile that can keep a play alive better. Old is Old,and what is The Salary Cap avg. for a QB ??

Well we have him, at real cheap pay, for 4 years at least. Of course he may not start for 2 or even 3 of em. Good problem to have if our active-Hall Of Fame Quarterback doesn't "let us" move to Simpson.
But actually, if I'm a betting man I'd say Staff is our starter for 2 years at the most.

That makes sense to me. But I still feel there was a Plan A that may not have worked out. Perhaps a small trade down.
I feel a bit better about this pick now. It is not what I would do with the 13 pick because I feel like a player at 13 could possibly help with an immediate Super Bowl run.
But for long term I do like the player and his potential. Quick feet, quick processor and could excel in the Mcvay system. He’s also a Football Junkie that could be even better then what he showed in 1 year at Alabama.
Could be a bust but worth a flyer due to being a late round pick that got converted to a 13 pick. Not alot of capital spent.
I see Mcvay really using his running ability. Something Stafford doesn’t posses.
