the Rams bringing back Robert Quin?alway loved him as a Ram, maybe if its reasonable why not? Cant have enough pass rushers.

I can’t even imagine what they’d take to move Quinn. The Bears got a 2nd round, and future 6th round pick for Khalil Mack. While Mack is only a year younger, his contract is a bit tougher to swallow and his production hasn’t been close to what Quinn has performed recently.

McVay moved him after he got the job. Quinn had a bit of a retro season last year and all but is it likely to expect that to continue?

He just doesn't seem like he's in that window where the Rams would be interested. Strikes me as a guy holding on and making cash before he retires at this point.

I’d rather have a rookie to develop than a retread.

Rams have assets in house already and were leading the league in sacks even before getting Miller last year.

Looking forward to seeing what Chris Garrett does this year.

Pay for him and our draft class and the wanted signing of Honey Badger and a vet CB. Go make it happen with the manage roster tool at spotrac and tell us how you manage it! Generally curious how it gets done.

Oh Damn forgot about OBJ we have to add him too! Go ahead add all that on our $7 million of cap space and have enough during the season for transactions etc

Donald and Kupp currently count for more than $45M of the Rams' 2022 cap..

They are both expected to get huge extensions.

Typically, those types of deals have lower cap hits for the first year or two. While they will cash-in, their 2022 cap hits should decrease; and the Rams should have more cap space.

It's not a perfect example because he was entering the final year of his contract but Stafford carried a $23M cap hit for 2022 before his extension. Stafford got a huge deal, and big-up-front-$ so he is happy but his 2022 cap-hit went-down to $13.5M. So the Rams created $9.5M of additional 2022 cap space with that extension.

And you're going to increase each of their cap hits next year when we're already in the same cap spot. Both already have 18.4 and 23.5 million cap hits with restructure money on the books next year. Stafford goes up next year and oh yeah the year after that has a just under $50 million cap hit. I get it there are ways to manipulate the cap every year I'm the first one to come up with ways to do it and say it can be done. But some of these suggestions are just managing the roster via Madden 2022. Tyrann wants money, Quinn is owed money and OBJ wants money. Yes it would be great if we can add all of them but the reality of adding them all is a bit different.

Sorry man but I was initially confused by your reply. Think I understand now.

When you say "their" I assumed you are referring to Donald and Kupp; and after looking at those two players current contracts, I see the $18.4M (Kupp) and the $23.5M (Donald) for 2023. Under an extension, those amounts will not stay the same. They can come-down ... just the way their current 2022 cap hits could come-way-down with an extension ... just like they did with Stafford's extension.

I absolutely agree that it's just salary-cap-manipulation; and there will be untenable years with huge cap hits. At the moment, I am just considering 2022 and 2023 which I think is the window the Rams are focused on with many of their top-players in their late-20's. At some point, the Rams will probably be in ugly cap shape.

Another point to consider is the Salary Cap, and whether it sees a significant increase in the next 2-4 years.
If so, it would minimize (not eliminate) some of the future cap ramifications.

So we're going to lower their 22 and 23 cap hits? How much are you anticipating paying them the next couple years 35 million each? We're doing to cut in half a couple years cap hits you eventually have to have at least 1 if not 2 huge cap hit years like with Stafford in 23. Or do we put void year garbage in with dead cap hits after their signed? Which Kupp already has btw in 24.

I feel like we are sparring for no reason.

I am not playing GM, or recommending anything. I am simply observing what I believe Management is doing ... structuring deals to put the Team in a good cap-space-situation for 2022 and 2023, so that it can compete for the Super Bowl.

I am looking at how the contracts are structured ... Noteboom, Allen, Robinson, Wagner and Stafford.
Their total cap hit is only $25.6M for 2022.
The same five see their cap hits increase to $72.5M in 2023.
By 2024, their combined cap is $105M but it's not all guaranteed ... dead-$ and cap savings from moving-on.

Finally, as I am reading Stafford's numbers, his 2022 cap hit is $13.5M and $20M in 2023. The $50M number starts in '24.

Hell yes I'd take Robert Quinn. Dude had 18.5 sacks last year and we need another pass rusher to fill the void left by Von Miller. He's a proven vet in that department. Don't we have people that want Ingram? He's a year younger than him too lol. Honestly the only hurdles are fitting him under the cap (has 12.2 mil cap hit for whoever trades for him) and the compensation the Bears want (can probably be gotten for a lower pick since he has a big dead cap hit). All his guarantees have apparently been paid out so it is possible, but I'll say what I always say. I trust the Rams to make the right moves. If they want him, they can go get him. If not, I'm not losing sleep over it either.

I like Quinn and if he were on an expiring deal, I could see it happen. But he's got more years at 18 mil on it and I just don't know if they can make that happen. They'd also have to play that 4 man front even more.

I'm having this discussion with you hoping that others are reading what we're discussing. I'm not laying all of this on you but unfortunately for you you're one of the few that is willing to actually discuss these ideas. Too many people come in to a thread or post a thread and say "hey lets do x, y and z" and have no idea if that's even realistic or possible. They just want to play Madden with the off season roster.

Point being missed here is that Chicago isnt giving him away for a 4th rounder, will cost at least a 2nd +,+

Wait a second! Wait a god-damned-second!!!

This isn't a private discussion? We are being watched!?!

I knew it. They said I was paranoid and insane! But I knew it!!!

Seriously, here is what I was trying to say.
The Rams have about $7M of cap space as of this moment, and need only about $2M to sign their Draft-class.
Donald and Kupp currently account for over $45M of the Rams' 2022 salary cap.
Donald and Kupp currently account for $42M of the Rams' 2023 salary cap.
None of this is opinion. Just reading numbers off sites like Spotrac.

The Rams have been clear in their intention to extend both Donald and Kupp; and have expressed optimism that these deals will get done. Accordingly, my expectation is that these extensions will get done.

My first ... and really ONLY ... prediction is just a guess based on what I have seen thus far. The extensions for Donald and Kupp will reduce their combined 2022 salary cap hits from the current $45M-plus; and will probably lower the current $42M for 2023.

I am not expressing whether the above prediction/guess is good or bad ... right or wrong.

And those deals won't get finalized until the Rams are done building the roster, imo.

There are still a few FA edge guys out there.. from Very Veteran guys.. to interesting younger guys who could benefit from playing next to Donald and for the Rams. Takk McKinley? Melvin Ingram or Clowney? Hard to say right now.
