Well, I'd counter that by stating we're not in 3rd grade anymore. There is no law that states you need to punch someone who pushed you.
Think about how countries deal with one another. When a country shows some act of aggression on another, the attacked country huddles up to discuss an "appropriate response". There are a range of responses that show they will not back down, but are not disproportionate. You don't launch nukes when a jet is "accidentally" shot down, for example.
The dude got pushed, and punched the other guy.
I remember playing in a casual, intramural flag football game in college, where I reached and grabbed a guy's flag while he was trying to avoid me, and he lost his balance and fell. He approached me, pissed off that I "tackled" him, and I just calmly told him "chill out, was just an accident". It should have ended there, but the dude turned away, then sucker punched me right in the mouth. This was not an appropriate response, and I was not pleased. The escalation afterwards, in my opinion, was completely justified by his response.
This Whiner fan never had that chance as he was unlucky and hit the ground hard. I hope he recovers fully. I also don't understand why the guy who punched him chose that response, in a parking lot on his way to the NFC Championship game. I would not want to risk not being able to see the game, but that's just me I guess. Nor do I understand why the Whiner fan was not helped by ANYBODY? Nobody will convince me this wasn't seen by somebody who could have helped an unconscious person on the ground.
Just a sad thing all around. Will we never learn? The Giants fan that was beat up in the Dodgers parking lot has permanent brain damage...
