Here's my, off the cuff, gut feelings about the players who we've been connected to...
Brian Burns - YES. Get him if you can.
Alvin Kamara - YES. Get him if you can.
Kareem Hunt - MAYBE. Only if we can extend him beyond this season.
Bradley Chubb - NO. Too much trade compensation for a likely rental.
Brandin Cooks - MEH. If the price is reasonable, sure, but not a priority.
Others? I'd be fine with a trade for a pass rusher, RB or OL, as long as the price is somewhat reasonable and the player acquired is signed at least through next season.
Otherwise... just ride this season out with what we have, I guess.

Seriously though, I think of all the social media posts over the past ten days by various "People in the Know" ... who, generally don't know shit ... saying 'today's the day for a Rams trade'. I think clown-boy Holden Cantor has posted such half a dozen times over the past ten days.
Chubb is a UFA this offseason. So, absent an extension or a franchise tag, he'd be a rental.
If I knew the Rams could aquire Chubb and extend him, I'd be all in.
I find it hard to believe that the Rams went from trading two more firsts for Brian Burns to packing it up. 5 hours to go. We'll see.
I only like the term "rental" if it's known he won't be coming back. So I guess we're just splitting hairs on personal opinion on the definition.

I love burns and I'd do that trade rt now but the Panthers are dumb especially if you think the Rams are or are in for a big collapse. Those picks could be top 10. That's silly. Yes I'm annoyed but still silly
