I think it is pretty clear that the Rams don't value draft picks as high as some on this board do.

The Rams have a bold, fearless leadership style in the front office. Long gone are the days of safe decisions that lead to mediocrity. It take courage to cut against the grain, but they have turned into a perennial contender. It is a far cry from some of the past regimes.

Perhaps.....but.....
They have never really focused on combine numbers.
McVay and Snead don't even go to the combine. They seem to find value (Kupp, Puka etc) in guys that some non stellar workout numbers but are hard working, smart players.
It will be interesting to see how high he goes....my fear is SF.
True, but they do focus on metrics, and Sadiq was exceptional.

Help me understand, what point are you making here?
I'm simply saying that when it comes to trading for proven talent (i.e., top-tier vets, like Stafford, Ramsey, McDuffie, Von, etc), Snead overpays, because he wants his man and refuses to be outbid by other teams. But he's far less willing to overpay for draft picks, who are not yet proven.

Imo, they could have just signed a top CB in free agency and kept the picks. There are some good ones out there.
You are assuming:
A) one of those players would sign with the Rams (it’s their choice/decision); and
B) the rams would want that guy just as much as they wanted McDuffie.

There is more complexity involved than simply - sign FA guy.

I think they value the combine just fine.. they just can get the value out of it in their own way.
As far as testing goes? They look at things differently, for sure.. but keep in mind things like Kupp's exceptional short-area quickness in testing and Puka's great work in the "guantlet".. these were "special" traits that the Rams saw, for sure.

But.. the last true "freak" prospect I remember them drafting purely on physical potential was Robert Rochelle.

I am less concerned about Trent's ability to handle outside CB work than many posters here. This guy will have to practice against Puka, his old Washington Huskies collegiate teammate, and 'Tae this off-season and training camp. Talk about getting a crash course in defending elite receivers!!! :fistbump1:

Don't really have a take either way, except to say it drives me fucking nuts what the term "1st round pick" conjures up in people's minds, when the reality is it's pick fucking 29, which really needs to be contextualized for any real discussion.

And actually, that goes for the 5th and 6th, and next year's 3rd, (which is really a 4th, BEFORE considering where in the round it is.)

I take it back - loved the trade.:thumbsup1:

So for comparison, it’s reported the Rams showed interest in AJ Brown. Apparently they didn’t have to have him, but probably would’ve taken him at the right price. So the break point is “gotta have” versus “would like to have”.

Love this trade. Got an elite all-around corner (best we’ve had since prime Ramsey) to pair with Forbes and a potential draft pick or two. The first was expected, we didn’t give up any Day 2 picks this year, and the Day 2 pick we did give up will offset with likely comp picks for Scheelhaase.

Everything I see and read suggests that McDuffie is going to be the a glue guy for the team.
