There needs to be a cap on the cap. The $$ difference between a standout player in year 4 of their rookie contract and a standout vet in year 1 of their 2nd contract is disproportionate.
Couldn't we argue that some players, good ones, are being cheated on their rookie contracts? Their production far outweighs their salary.

How then would it be fair to cap large 2nd contracts?

The NFL added a provision that helps with that. For instance both Young and Nacua got significant bumps in the last year of their deals based on production and playing time. I believe that kicks in automatically as both have $6M cap numbers this year. Being 3rd & 5th rd picks, those are big escalations in their pay. Turner's wasn't quite as big, but his jumped to $4M. Even Evans, the punter, got a bump to over $3M. That was one reason why our $60M cap dropped by about $15M at the end of the year. Those increases hit the cap.

Yup, that's why Kyren was due a 5 mill salary in his 4th year
I still think they should move the decision on exercising the 5th year option until after the 4th season, not the 3rd. Alas

Good point. This helps some. But to the OP's point, there will still be a humongous difference between Nacua's $6 mil in year 4 and his 2027 salary, which could be in the 40s.

If you think Puka is going to play for $6m this season you have rocks in your head.

He and jsn will top Alec pierce (who) money.

I agree with a worrisome tone.

I'm worried Puka might hold out if the Rams don't pay him.... I'm sure he's sitting back watching the Rams wallet open pretty wide for the two new DB's, Landman and Lake..... Rams better get out out safe if they want to have Puka at the start of the season.

Quick thought on the McDuffie signing..
I'm guessing that Lake is gone in 2 years.. Curl possibly as well... and McDuffie will take over the "star" role full time at that point.

Two years!? We could have a completely different roster by then.
