Tom Brady says the NFL is mediocre. Rodgers agrees.

I agree with them. On the QB part anyway. Flag football. What I can't stand is when a pass rusher goes by a QB and gets a finger on his helmet but it isn't called. Some QBs point to their head while looking at the referee in hopes of getting a cheap flag. Dude, the rules have already made you a pussy, don't act like one too. Brady was guilty of that, so hasn't he consciously contributed to the pussification?

On "defenseless player" penalties, yeah those hits are great to watch but I understand the desire for protection. On the other hand, in the old days, a hit like that could jar the ball loose creating an incompletion or fumble. In the old days, some WRs going across the middle protected themselves by quickly growing alligator arms. That was the ultimate desire of the big hit. Make you think about going across the middle and exposing yourself. Of course nobody wants a Stingley incident either.

It's a fine line. If you protect the prize fighter by outlawing head shots or race drivers by limiting speed, it's not prize fighting or racing anymore.

Is it really THAT much different tho? The only big things i recall changing are no more two-a-days in training camp and in the past couple years having 3 preseason games.

In all the time ive been following NFL its always been virtually the same. And i dont think reducing practices in May is gonna be a huge hindrance come September.

Personally i think if you're good, you're good and if you suck you suck. They'res plenty of good players right now, and a few generational. Teams dont get the time to develop them tho b/c of the pressure to win. I guess thats my point...you cant have it both ways (pound the table for d &d but scream for coaches and GMs to get fired in December when they aren't winning.
I really think it is THAT much. Players used to be allowed around the team and coaches far more than they are now. Hell. You cant even give them a playbook until a specified time, no two a days, huge gaps in training, later beginning to camps, etc...

Now players can either find training on their own or not do it at all. There is precious little time devoted to the TEAM.

So yeah... I do believe all the rules put in place to supposedly benefit the players have actually hurt them and their respective teams.

He had everything to do with it. The league chose him to be the poster boy of the nfl. The all American boy. The player they were going to canonise. The player they could make countless nfl films about till the end of time.

And they changed the game for him to be that guy. And bent the rules for him to be that guy. And told the refs to hold his hand his whole career so he could win and be that guy.

It's no coincidence that once he moved to the bucs the cheats stopped getting the calls and the bucs got all the calls.

Fuck him.

.
Yup, all so true. I will use your
OK... So since no one else will say it... FUCK Tom Brady and the cheating horse he rode in on.
I will steal use that line because its so true.
Tom became a great quarterback. But that first Super Bowl I was hoping he played and not Drew. He has 83 dink and dunk yards until that "scintillating" 35 whatever yard drive to get that long field goal attempt.
Still to this day when they show the replay I close my eyes when it goes through the uprights.

The rules changed because the NFL wanted QBs to not get hurt. They realized people watch the game because QBs are the catalyst to score points. Most fans hate defensive battles because they're boring to the laymen. Brady was just a bystander, if it wasn't him it would have been Manning or someone else.

Hyperbole.
Nope, Brady was a whining little BITCH !! who changed the NFL in a negative way.
He openly cried for flags pointing at his knees and the refs would throw the flag AFTER the play.
Fuck him and that cheating horse he rode in on !!!!

This is so true, it probably merits a separate "off topic" thread. We that were not raised with todays technology shouldn't assume one way is better by applying our ethos to their present challenges, coping mechanisms and social practices. I had some friends over this past weekend who were very critical of our younger generations lack of "in person interaction" I took the opposing view using the examples that our parents were critical of our practices but theirs weren't better but different. We adapt to our social make up and it doesn't make one better than another. As my friends left I turned to my wife an said we don't really have a lot of in person social interaction with friends however our son was upstairs this morning (he is 20 and home for Thanksgiving from college) speaking to his 2 buddies with his screen split that are both still away at school. Does their daily interactions have less value than our occasional in person interaction? I don't know but I wont assume nor judge. I could go on about some of the great conversations I have had with Millennial's & Gen X and the Gen Xers are going to do great things I truly believe it but not without enduring some crazy challenges finding themselves in the middle of a reset.
Nah, we grew up in a better time before these "personal tracking devices" monitoring your every move.
I do not run a smartphone for a reason. I look down on the "phone starring" behavior of Millennials and Gen Zers.
Today we have all these kids that would rather sit in front of a screen that go outside and make their own adventurers in real life with real risks.
Go to a doctors waiting room, no one even talks anymore. And I am kinda anti social but even I know its not right.
It sucks taking a short hop to the face, but it toughens you up.
Go outside and play and play hard.

@ 60 years old having many nieces and nephews as well as having had several young employees I just don't agree. Your example is a sweeping generalization but not applicable as as such. I agree that social interaction has changed but to call it deleterious would not be something I am willing to do with such a short time frame to judge. It did take a deep inward assessment to get here but I think it is short sighted and an age related inability to accept change while being committed to "our way is best" mentality. We have left them a worse society than was left to us on many fronts. I am more optimistic that they will have a positive impact relatively speaking. My parents didn't get me and I will do my best not to return the favor although it isn't easy.

The bodyweight crush on the QB penalty has been enforced more after the 2017 Rodgers injury. Hitting the QB low was more enforced after a Brady low hit. May have been 2008, but feels kinda like a later season w/Pats.

QBs with the most RTP penalties 2009-2022:

57 Matt Ryan
52 Ryan Fitzpatrick
42 Russell Wilson
41 Aaron Rodgers
41 Ryan Tannehill
41 Matthew Stafford
40 Kirk Cousins
35 Cam Newton
35 Tom Brady
32 Drew Brees
30 Ben Roethlisberger
30 Carson Wentz
30 Jay Cutler
30 Josh Allen
30 Jared Goff

Though it doesn't differentiate the ticky-tack calls, which I'm sure Brady received more of than anyone. It also doesn't include the ones that should've been called but were missed. Hmmm... Stafford, Goff, we've seen some of those non-calls.
It’s interesting that it took as low hit on Brady to get a rule change. That should have come after Rodney Harrison took out Trent Green’s knee in a meaningless preseason game.

Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with the views expressed in this post, I find it to be one of the most articulate, thoughtful and well-written posts I have ever read on this Forum.

When I was growing up, I believe there were 6 preseason games and a 14 game season. The big money NFLers get now wasn't there for most. They had to work other jobs in the offseason and came into camp out of shape. They were not hyperactively focused upon by medical and training staff for peak performance. If current players come into camp out of shape, there is little patience for it and they are often ejected from the league as slackers. No more North Dallas 40 teams in today's NFL.

Well they also used candlelight to study playbooks back when you were growing up so....:drum:

But seriously today these dudes are in peak physical condition and they have so many resources outside the team. I don't honestly remember the last guy that was so out of shape he couldn't make a team. Maybe Eddie Lacy?

There used to be more voluntary/not voluntary offseason programs. That was stopped. Also players could be around the facilities all year with no control. So if a team told a player that he ‘should’ be there, the player was.

Ehh, i always thought these things got so overrated by fans and beat reporters. I don't really give a shit if a player didn't make a voluntary workout in April. The horror. Especially today.

Also the players are right to change the rules on this front...voluntary is voluntary. It's like showing up to an office Christmas party. You don't have to but you have to. I'm all for not having the league turn into corporate bullshit.

I hated the office party BS.

Tackling has become horrible. So many missed tackles by not wrapping up. (I'm not just talking Rams here).

I like the safety aspects concerning spearing and hitting a defenseless WR. Players have gotten bigger and stronger. They have to keep them relatively healthy and able to play. Less physical practices have to have a negative effect on fundamentals.

Despite rule changes that supposedly limits player development it surely didn't limit the Rams' success? Both games and players. I guess what I'm saying is I just think these things might be a bit overrated.

I have one this Friday. :injury:
You see those people 5 days a week. Why would you want to spend your evening off with them?

The overall product is being affected. There will always be someone who comes out on top. The team building and teaching that used to go on is being replaced by individual effort and skill.

Meanwhile... Tom Terrific Cheater's ex-roommate AB is now on X claiming to have banged Giselle. I will only refer to her as Gis now for the effect though.

TBCHEAT don't know shit about what's going on in his own fucking house, much less the NFL's.

Of course Tom Brady thinks the NFL's not that exciting.
Because he's not in it.

He's a jackass that needs to stop braying
