I’m not a big fan of hyperbole Jrry. I was serious. He took the helmet (that he had pulled off Rudolph’s head) and took a full round house swing to his head with the helmet. Lesser actions have killed men.
Look, this is a violent sport. We all love it. But accountability is not fully suspended just because they are on a football field.
In the arena? The malicious actions Garrett took were waaaay outside the bounds of his job. A football field does not absolve men from following the law.
Police officers are charged all the time when they “lose it” and injure or kill someone.
If I hauled off and grabbed a blunt object and swung it at a coworkers head I would expect to get fired, and probably arrested, as well.
Look, this was very much an aberration. There are plenty of fights that get out of hand. These guys get emotional. Most of the time I think guys just need to cool down, and maybe get a 15 yard penalty.
Would more guys have advocated legal action if Rudolph went into a coma? Died? That blow could have caused either, easily.
it should be about the action. Not the result.
