Ian Cummings recently released a brand new 3-round mock draft. He has the Rams winning the Super Bowl, earning the very last pick at the bottom of the 2nd round. I guess we don't need to watch the 2026 NFL season now that we know what's going to happen.

With that 2nd round pick, Cummings sends us TJ Moore, a WR from Clemson. Hence, this thread.

In a CBSSports mock draft, Moore was the 20th overall selection, a 1st round pick. Hey, that sounds great. Per DraftBuzz, Moore has a 7th round projection, and they suggested that he could face a difficult battle just to make an NFL roster. Hmm... that doesn't sound too hot.

Cummings says that Moore isn't a burner, but he's impressively quick and fluid for his size, has route running chops, box-out ability and is versatile in alignment. He has us drafting Moore to be a successor to Davante Adams.

Part 1: Background

Name, age:
TJ Moore, turns 21 in April of 2027. True junior, Clemson. Studying parks recreation and tourism management. Academic all-conference in 2024 and 2025.

Size, estimated speed: Listed 6'3'' and 200 pounds. Was listed at 205 pounds in 2025 and 200 pounds in 2024, 195 pounds as HS recruit. Brian Bosarge 4.42 to 4.49 seconds in 40, Draftbuzz 4.42 seconds in 40.

5-star recruit from Florida. Dad was a college WR. Ran 100 meters and did high jump in HS. Recruiting profile used Tee Higgins as comp and said he was a potential future 1st round draft pick.

Limited in spring 2026 practices by lower body injury suffered during the 2025 season.

Has caught at least 1 pass in every game he's played at Clemson. Coaches say that he's made strides in being more receptive to hard coaching.

2024 (14 games, 9 starts): 45-651-5 receiving, one fumble. 8 drops in 2024.
2025 (13 starts): 52-837-4 receiving, one fumble. Led team in receiving yards, only a few catches away from also leading the team in catches.

Part 2: Strengths

Okay, here's my take on what's going on with the huge spread in his draft grades. To my eye, TJ Moore was not healthy at any point during the 2025 season. He was a completely different player in 2024 vs 2025. It was like watching 2 different players, like some imposter was wearing his jersey while he went off and had an extended vacation in Monaco all of last season. I have no knowledge or guess as to the nature of what was wrong, but something was not physically right with him. Your opinion about Moore likely will depend on which games you watched. If you watched his good games, you'll probably give him a high draft grade. If you only watched his bad games, you'll give him a low grade. I feel this is why DraftBuzz has him as a potential UDFA. They are placing too much weight on the 2025 tape.

Granted, if Moore has some type of chronic injury situation, this is a huge problem. I thought he was a "bad" player in 2025. If he can't run the way he did in 2024, his NFL prospects are in jeopardy. The only fair grade I can give him at this point is "incomplete" because we need to see him play in 2026. Until we see him regain his athleticism, there is a cloud of uncertainty as to what's going on behind the scenes with this player. NFL teams and die-hard Clemson fans probably know the full scoop, but from the outside I have to plead ignorance.

Honestly, I didn't feel that it was necessary to even watch all of his 2024 games, he was really good. Explosive, very quick feet, elusive in his release making it difficult for the CB to mirror, good route tempo, sinks his hips with ease, very fluid movement for intermediate routes, a twitchy athlete. Good speed in 2024.

Moore has outstanding hands. Long arms, appears to have big hands. Very good hand eye coordination. Confident hands with excellent effective catch radius to grab balls behind him, high or below his waist, nice full extension catch sliding to the ground. Fantastic one-handed catch. Sometimes he has a focus drop, but I don't have any real concerns about his catching ability.

Lined up both outside and in the slot, both to left and right of the formation. The experts see him as an X receiver, but I don't agree with this. I actually like him as a Z receiver or as a dynamic slot WR. Regardless, he has versatility to play any WR position on an NFL team, which is a very valuable trait.

Potential 3-level threat at NFL level. Has blend of size, speed, length, short area agility, route running and release skills to threaten the defense at all levels of the field, running a full route tree.

Plays through contact to attempt contested catches. Strong hands to hold onto the ball through contact and complete the catch.

Good timing with his stiff arm. Good YAC ability.

Has only been in college for 2 years. Would be an early entrant if he declares for 2027 draft. Knock on wood, his best football is still ahead of him.

Part 3: Weaknesses

Did he "lose the magic"? This sometimes happens in football. There was a RB a few years ago who was fantastic as a freshman. He looked like a future 1st round pick. Then he got hurt. After his injury, he played more like a late round to UDFA player. He ended up being a 3rd round pick. His NFL form is better than the "injured" version his final year in college but he's never been able to recapture the best version he had as a freshman. He doesn't have the same speed or power, he's just an average, ordinary RB today. Enough to be on an NFL roster, but not a potential Pro Bowler like it seemed he was destined to become. Maybe this will happen to Moore and he'll always be a "what might have been" player.

Across the board, from top speed, explosion, short area agility, route tempo, release moves, breaks, YAC, COD moves, ability to separate nothing was as good in 2025. He was a shadow of his former self.

Even if Moore was playing through injury in 2025, it doesn't in any way excuse some of his lapses. He has some alarming red flags that aren't related to whether he can run fast.

Sometimes he displays very poor football IQ. It is a 3 WR set to the right, Moore is the outside WR. The pass is going to the stacked slot WR. The outside CB is playing off and as the ball is being snapped that CB backpedals. It is a tunnel screen, so after catching the ball, the slot WR is supposed to run towards the middle of the field, into the lane created by the OL going to the 2nd level. Isn't it obvious what Moore should do? The outside CB isn't remotely close to the action, he's not a threat to the play. Moore has plenty of time and space to block the slot CB but he's completely clueless and falls asleep at the wheel. The slot CB attacks upfield, 100% unblocked. Moore realizes his mistake but sees that it is too late to block the slot CB, so he turns back towards the outside CB and takes a bad angle, ending up blocking nobody. Meanwhile, the slot CB tackles the slot WR, limiting it to a 1-yard gain.

Clemson is running a mesh concept with shallow crossers. As Moore comes off the LOS, no DB on his side runs with him. Moore sees the other WR running his route from the other side of the field and has plenty of time and space to prepare. Inexplicably, Moore runs directly into his teammate instead of adjusting his angle to either go in front or behind him.

Pre-snap and post-snap both show basic cover 2 zone. WR runs his curl route at an angle such that as he comes out of the break the zone LB is standing directly between the WR and the QB, making it impossible for the QB to target him with a pass. Realizing the issue, WR after pausing repositions himself towards the middle of the field, but by this point the timing of the play is all messed up.

Moore didn't play hard in 2025, he was a low energy guy on the field. Poor blocking effort, lazy, let up early. Got flung to the ground by the CB as he eased up early. His blocking angle was almost always wrong, regardless of how minimal the effort it would have taken for him to get in the way of the CB. Some plays, his effort was almost literally zero on blocks, he just let the CB run by him without lifting a finger. No hustle, no want to, seemed disinterested, lacking in competitive spirit.

Very weak hand placements, doesn't properly use his length to secure blocks, allows the CB to disengage too quickly and too easily.

While Moore has good route running athleticism and tools, some of his routes aren't well crafted. Particularly on slants, he sometimes allows the CB to read him like a book and run the route with him, with the CB blanketing him, ready to challenge the catch point.

On some contested passes downfield, Moore doesn't jump for the ball and high point it; he allows the pass to drop to him. Other plays, he has poorly timed reactions to the ball, just reaching for the ball instead of jumping for it, or not having his hands catch ready. Sometimes commits potential offensive PI trying to position himself for the pass. On comebacks, doesn't always take proper angle back towards the QB to protect the catch point from the CB, hurting his contested catch success rate.

His stats included quite a few WR screens.

I'm not a fan of Moore's personality. He's a mellow, laid back individual. Tends to talk about himself instead of being team oriented. Room to mature and grow, become more professional. Needs to be more detail oriented with his preparation and execution on the field. I want to see him embrace the dirty work and try to be a complete WR to help his team win games, lead by example, be more accountable.

Appears to be shorter than his listed height. Doesn't have a thick build. While he has good length, he doesn't have elite arm length.

Part 4: Draft Grade and Pro Comp

Incomplete, don't know. Wide range of outcomes, anywhere from CeeDee Lamb (1st round 2020, 17th overall, Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma) to Bub Means (Late 5th round 2024, New Orleans Saints, Pitt).

If TJ Moore has a breakout 2026 season, I believe he could be a very high 1st round pick next year. He's very talented. If he plays the way he did in 2025, I'm just being honest, I'm not sure I'd draft him in any round, not even the late rounds. Needless to say, Moore has as much riding on the upcoming season as perhaps any other player in the entire draft pool. I have no clue whether 2026 is going to be a storybook fairy tale for him or a nightmare. I think he's one of the most intriguing players to watch this season.
