I thought I'd start a thread as I think this fantastic TE class may be the best way for our team to goose the passing offense this offseason. I know we'd all (okay, maybe not some people) love a dominate X receiver who has speed and size but unless we trade up for a McMillian, I'm not sure that will happen in this draft.

What I do see are a number of TE's who will be available late 1st into the 2nd and even 3rd who can be game changers and could even split wide and provide us with snaps at the boundary that could beat man coverage (a significant reason but not the only one for Stafford's late season slide).

Loveland probably goes before our pick, Warren too but I think it's good to start to get a look at all of them right now.

I think this class is gonna juggle quite a bit after the combine results. Because Warren, who is probably the best all around weapon for the pass game, doesn't look like he's going to run well. Some of the others will though.

Figure we could see 4x first round TE this year. Warren, Arroyo, Loveland, Taylor. Fannin hurt himself in the Senior Bowl week but still probably goes round 2. This class is fucking nuts. If we don't get a TE I'm gonna be pissed.

Yes, and Arroyo I guess has some medical checks that need to come back clean.

I don't think we'd be disappointed with any of those top 4.

It does look like a good class especially with the lack of top level QB and WRs.

The problem I see is what other needs are there going into the draft? Who do we lose and do they bring in anyone? Kupp, Jackson, DBs???? Are they satisfied Higbey can play a full season? Is Allen getting Kupp reps?

Yeah his knee worries me because as big as he is physically, with his movement ability on top of that previous injury it feels like he's an added injury risk. And that's even with a clear bill of health.

Could be that I'm still feeling that early end to Gurley's career but I don't like the idea of taking a guy with even a sniff of medical issue. I'd take Taylor instead and enjoy watching him develop in this offense. This offense will make a strong pass game weapon into a star in that slot role.

I historically don’t go into the offseason demanding anything, but this year is different.

Rams absolutely have to come out this draft/FA with some dynamic, explosive, athletic, uber competitive football players.

At the very least, two of these four positions need to get solved to add some quick strike ability.

RB WR TE KR

This is why I expect the Rams to chase CB hard in FA.

This is an exceptional tight end and running back class. I hope we target a game changer at both positions. Warren will be gone. Loveland might too if we're being honest. I could see Arroyo, Helm, Taylor from LSU all being good targets if we trade down.

It is possible that Hampton will be the best player on the board when the Rams are up. Of course I hope it's a TE. I pray it's a TE. But you are right that RB also could be in play and the value may line up.

Hampton's a fucking dog man. He's been massively overlooked leading up to the draft IMO. But if we go RB up top then we probably end up with a smaller slot, which I'd prefer a big target but then again since it looks like Stafford is likely gone I suppose we don't need to load size with as much priority.

56% of Warren’s yards came after the catch. He’s physical and fights for contested balls. He runs good routes and gets open despite being the focal point for defenses in the pass game. He can block too. He wasn’t a devastating blocker but he was a decent blocker, which likely can be improved upon.

It depends on exactly what McVay wants but I still think Warren is the best value at TE for the Rams because he’s more in line with what Higbee is. Warren was a QB in high school and was recruited as one by some colleges. He’s got a good football IQ. Andy Kotelnicki said Tyler Warren is the smartest football player that he’s ever coached.

If McVay is looking for a move TE, who is more receiver than blocker then there are 3-4 good ones to choose from.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Rams draft Warren, then also pick a move TE as well. With Higbee’s age, contract, and injuries he may be nearing the end.

His only weakness to me is blocking. He wasn't asked to do it a lot and wasn't very good when he did do it.
Watch that Penn St game where he went off. He's a willing blocker. I don't think that will be a problem for him in the NFL.

I wouldn’t complain if Hampton was the pick. He was recruited by Penn State and at one point was thought to be leaning towards them. He was the back I had hoped they’d get. They still got two good ones, but Hampton would not be under the radar had he been running behind PSUs offensive line.

I'm the biggest fan of Fannin Jr here and he's not a good blocker. There is a foundation to build on and he can improve but aside from that one game, where he was amazing in the pass game, he really was not a good blocker.

Well if the Rams don't like his blocking then they'll probably go with a different option. Taylor for example who has been slotted in our range. Or maybe Loveland if he doesn't smoke the workout. There's a ton of ways they can go. Fannin just seems to have McVay written all over him though I'd imagine there will be other WCO teams who like him as well.
