I really like Cowherd. But in this instance he is wrong about Goff and rollouts. McVay does the rollouts to cover for the Oline weakness and give Goff only half the field to read and Goff is very good at it. He led the league in those passes.

If you look at 2018 you’ll notice the rollouts were not a part of the offense like they are now.

Sure it would be nice if Goff was more mobile and ran like Aaron Rodgers with better instincts to just go. But there is no way that it’s better to have a running QB. A scrambling QB would be great. But running QBs get injured.

And that’s what worries me about Wolford. He took more big hits vs the Cardinals then Goff took all year.

When Wolford ran for first downs and completed some downfield throws, those that have longed for Goff's departure saw what they wanted.

It's what I've said all along. If you're looking for greatness you will find it while excusing the flaws. If you're looking for flaws, you will ignore the positive because it doesn't fit your criteria.

An objective evaluation would compare both QB's vs THE SAME OPPONENT. In that regard, the stats say the competition isn't remotely close.

Agenda is your answer.

There are some running QB'S smart enough to avoid injury or just so big
that they can take it,
but most end up getting caught up in the moment and make poor decisions.
I'm not against having a running QB
But it does appear that generally speaking they are a higher injury risk and require a quality backup.
I also do not agree with the notion that the "pocket QB" is dead.
The very existence of Brady dispels the notion.

It's because he had nothing to lose. That was a moment he had been waiting for
all of his life.
If he continues to play, I can assure you McVay will have him playing smarter
with his body.
As far as the "who to start debate"? File me under the "I trust McVay"
category. Whoever coach plays is my QB.

Everyone loved Wolford lowering his shoulder to get a first down and I’ve heard people say that’s something Goff wouldn’t and couldn’t do. Goff isn’t gonna run for 50 yds but he’s not scared. Unless you’re Cam or Josh Allen running guys over probably shouldn’t be something you do regularly. We’ve seen Goff run for 1st downs and tds. Taking on lbs like Wolford did is not the way to have a long nfl career and isn’t really what I want to see my qb doing. I was kinda worried when he got up and his helmet was sideways but he’s tough. That’s the thing about smaller qbs though sometimes they can’t hold up physically, Kyler is a tough dude but sometimes you gotta stand in there and take a shot and he ends up hurt.

Only this logic doesn't work so well - Goff vs Seattle the first time and Goff vs Seattle the second are examples of that. Plus, we have the Rams offense with Goff against the Jets, who are worse than the Cardinals, where we got a less than stellar output.

While we did have Whitworth for most of the first game, we were also coming off a bye week.

What it looks like to me is that Goff torched the Cardinals and then as far as passing the ball, went into a funk against the Patriots, Jets and Cardinals.

It's very apparent that after the shaky start, Wolford played QB better than Goff's lows this year and (much) worse than his highs.

With the last three games being lows for Goff, who knows which Goff will show up? If it's bad Goff, we have a better chance to win this week with Wolford. If it's good Goff, we can win the Super Bowl

I am pretty shocked at how this has morphed into Warner v Buger II.

I like Wolford but the dude is no starting QB in this league. Is Goff? Goff has his faults, no doubt, but his ceiling is ten times as high as Wolfy's. Some of you seem to think you can temporarily dump a medically cleared Jared Goff for "the hot hand." It doesn't work that way because trust will be broken forever between Goff and McVay and really the whole organization. You don't sit a healthy starter unless you are ready to get rid of him. Make no mistake, if a healthy enough Goff is bypassed, we will find the warts of John Wolford that every back up has. We will be in the situation prior to Jared Goff,...Looking for retreads and hoping on guys like Case Keenum to get us to the promised land...

I think there's something to be said for knowing your place in the grand scheme of things.

This is going to sound messed up, really messed up, but if you think about it..

The Rams winning this game was more important than Wolford not getting injured (talking football injury that he can bounce back from - obviously if he were to sustain a serious injury that's more important than the Rams winning).

With a franchise QB, generally it's going to be better to lose the game than it is get injured, as that could lead to more losses. That wasn't the case with Wolford and I think he knew that. How many of us really expect a big drop off from Wolford to Bortles? I know some on here didn't even want Wolf to start.

But that said - Goff's play hasn't been stellar of late, which is sort of what bothered me with him sliding short against Seattle. Also, he could gone head first and been afforded similar protection. Having said that, I'm sure McVay coached him to slide after the fumble against the Niners, so while it did bother me at first, after thinking about it I get it.

I enjoy how you end this post with what you believe is profound statement...

"the agenda!"

There are some people perhaps that are too tough on goff.... but there are more who still trust him... and then a lot of in between.

Plus very very few people are saying wolford should play or is better.

This entire narrative and "Agenda" is annoying - because there isn't one.

also comparing a guy who has played one game with a guy who played 70 and then dropping the mic on their stats.

is silly... just beyond silly....

Going by objective reality - goff is likely a better player than wolford. but citing the stats of one game like that is the final piece of evidence for the supreme court..... yeah not really.

There are about 30% ( I counted) that have the Goff agenda on this site...outright blame 16 for all the losses.

70% seem to have a more nuanced view.

My big things is did Goff never playing f’n baseball? Those slides I’ve seen him attempt especially recently are horrid. Going to have to practice with Wilson this off-season to learn that! Lol

Hmmm was I apart of the 30 or the 70 or was I apart of the 100?

It's ironic as Goff's dad was one of the better sliding catchers (imo) back in the day,
