Through the years the Pac 12 was amazing and in most cases I rooted for USC or UCLA when they played Ohio State or Michigan in my younger years when I rooted for Notre Dame. Washington under Don James also a great program back then too.

I look forward to USC, UCLA, Oregon & Washington joining the Big Ten with Ohio State having the opportunity to play each one of them. I concur with @OldSchool it is a travesty that it has ended, however, college football has now changed for better or worse.

I think we're just scratching the surface of what college football will look like in 5 years

The NIL will over haul of how student athlete will get paid ,,Congress will get involved at some point ,

and now , with Florida State being snubbed , puts the future of the ACC even further in doubt

things are just getting started

This could be bad if that happens too. Because I believe they will cap what the NIL can do for each athlete with the thought of making it more of a level playing field for other colleges. However, all that will do is open up the floodgates for illegal contributions all over again.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

Today is the day

I'm sure most people know whats going on with college sports

conference expansion the main topic of conversation now for a couple years

Back on July 1st

Texas and Oklahoma "officially" became members of the SEC , and Stanford , Cal and SMU "officially" became members of the ACC

and today is the day

even though we have known for like two years now , that USC and UCLA , and a year now since we learned about Washington and Oregon were headed to the Big Ten , today is the day it becomes official

same with the Big 12 , Arizona , Arizona State , Utah and Colorado , are now "officially" members of the Big 12 starting today

I still hate seeing the Pac 12 collapse , seeing the Big Ten logo inside the Rose Bowl and Coliseum will take some time to get used to , maybe never , it's been twelve years now , and I still haven't accepted Nebraska , so , it will probably take even longer to fully accept USC and UCLA

and sadly , I don't think expansion is done yet

I'm not a big believer in these Super League proposals , those might be fine if it was just football , but how would these Super League be able to handle all those schools lesser sports

still keeping an eye on Washington State and Orgon State are still hoping to land in the Big 12

and the ACC , thats the big kicker , will they survive with both Florida State and Clemson suing the ACC

can they get out , will others leave as well , will it only be Florida State and Clemson and the rest of the ACC stay together

and I'm sure that the hold up on Washington State and Orgon State joining the Big 12 , as for now , the Big 12 have their eyes on the ACC and would rather poach some of the ACC schools if that conference falls apart

the Big Ten only allows AAU schools to join and I saw the other day , that Florida State is desperately trying to gain membership to the AAU as they defiantly want to get into the Big Ten , not sure where that leaves Clemson , as Clemson has little to no chance to gain AAU membership , at least not in the near future

so............

with Iowa in the Big Ten , and Iowa State in the Big 12 , today I welcome the eight new schools

That's freaking crazy as hell seeing this! lol

My question always has been as a Big10 fan for decades, why Rutgers and Maryland? Those have a Big East/ACC feel to me.

I could see Florida State making a huge push to get into the Big 10 and F the Tigers. But I'd imagine the Big10 would want to stay with even teams?

AAU is a certain academic certification right?

Th e most interesting situation to me out of all this is the progress of Florida State and it's contract with the ACC. THis is going to be interesting.

yea , AAU stands for Association of American Universities , devoted to maintaining a strong system of academic research and education

when it comes to the Big Ten , if you are not a member of the AAU , you're just not getting in

why Maryland and Rutgers

well ,

they are both AAU schools , and , on the East coast ,

yeah , Football drives this , but no matter what they say on FOX Sports or ESPN , when it comes to Big Ten , they are still research schools first

when it comes to those ACC schools , their grant of rights , don't end till 2036 , but , it's starting to sound like their may be a loop hole way out for them by 2027, one of those legal thingys

but right now , the main gog in the wheel is, and has been for years , is Notre Dame , it's no secret that Notre Dame and North Carolina , are the big prize for the Big Ten or, Notre Dame and Stanford

yes , I said Stanford , so why didn't they take Stanford last year when they had a chance when the Pac 12 collapsed , because they didn't want Cal

if they could get Stanford with Notre Dame , without Cal , that would be their second prize

Stanford has sucked at football , but are pretty good in most all other sports , and again , Stanford being a AAU school and huge in research , and the fact that Stanford has like a bazillion dollars when in comes to research , puts them at the top of the list

if no Notre Dame , then , well , I don't know

right now I think the ACC only have 4 schools that are AAU schools , Miami , North Carolina , Virginia and Georgia Tech

if the , and it's still a big if , but if the ACC starts to fall apart in 2027

could Florida State gain membership to the AAU by 2026 , which is only a year and a half away , then maybe the Big Ten will consider them

Clemson , well , they'll never get into the Big Ten

but yea , their not coming alone , again , it starts with Notre Dame and plus 1

if no Notre Dame , then it becomes a guessing game , because I'm sure the SEC has an eye on some of those schools as well , so the guessing game becomes , which schools go to the Big Ten , which ones go to the SEC ,

In fairness IMO, everybody would sign up for reincarnation, with the caveat as not coming back as a 49er fan.
Love that picture! lol

Shit a lot of information there. I think my school has a JGEU ( Just Good Enough University) :laugh3:

Stanford joined the ACC so IDK how soon if at all they could take a detour and head to the BIg10?

Before any of this started I always thought ND would be the crown jewel but sounds like their athletic director know better than to put them in the Big 10 where they will have to play everybody and that means Michigan and they specifically have dodged Michigan and they rivalry game for years after getting that ass handed to them on a season they should of been playing for a championship.

I kind of like all the change even though it's a bit weird. I know what it's going to be like as an old fart now where a youngster has no clue the changes that happened to what they are used to! lol

College football has been broken for a while. Its only recently that we've even gotten one or two solid playoff games.

I think NIL was the first step to cleaning things up - and now conference realignment like roaches scattering is a response/"next evolution" to that.

Playoff expansion will be good. But the future IMO is conferences dying all together, going to divisions and a version of what the NFL does - and then doing some sort of relegation like the premier league.

You seriously think it could end up like Premier league? IDK about that but not to surprised by the conferences folding with mismanagement and probably idiot hires that let them go down the toilet. Then again the area I grew up in teams changed conferences a lot so it's nothing new for me.

I probably shouldn't have included that in the future lol.....I think the NFL format is inevitable.

Relegation would be the perfect next step after that.

Too much of a perk for Rutgers to keep being Rutgers. I'm not a diehard college football fan....I live in Columbus and my wife went to OSU, so I do call myself an Ohio State fan. But the only games I truly care to watch this year are Oregon, Penn St and Michigan. What is the point in the rest of those games? And Penn St only makes the list because its an away game.

Yeah, the rest of those games are pretty much soup cans. Michigan got a brutal schedule this year and not looking forward to it. Hopefully we make the playoff this year with our younger talent. (glad it's 12 teams! lol)

Man IDK if I could see college football going the way of the NFL, that honestly I can envision in the least. Maybe if they broke it down east/west for conferences? IDK I think there are to many Div. 1 schools to do that with.

and by the way I didn't want to forget before the end of this message

I'm not like most Ohio State fans.....for a while there Michigan/Ohio State was so one sided, that almost got boring too. Losing to yall pissed me off the past two years, but I think it was much better for the big ten and the rivalry as a whole.

But yea, something like regional divisions, and I think the big thing there would be the structure more so than the conferences. So you can keep them the same as they were for the most part, but probably add a 6th "power conference" - then have it split geographically into East/West:

East:

ACC
Big Ten
SEC

West:

Big 12
Pac 12
New Conference

Kick all "west" teams out of the ACC/Big Ten/SEC

Make even number of teams for each conference (potentially 12)

Conference rotation for who plays who, using the place you finished last season - each team plays 3 non conference games - always play the other two from (East/West), then rotate for the opposite side how the NFL does for when the NFC plays the AFC.

So no more paying a smaller school to come in and get crushed.

Playoff takes each division winner and then three wild cards from each side, playoff bracket is like old NFL bracket. Top 2 seeds get byes.
