Simple. Troy f'n Hill made this possible. You know, the Troy Hill that QB's are only completing 43% of their passes against.

Hill was a critical resign for the Snead.

I was skeptical of Hill at first but I'm starting to get more comfortable with him under an effective man coverage scheme. It seems that Peters was a significant scheme liability with the way he wanted to freelance in the zone scheme and made some parts of our defense looked weaker in the process.

Good lord, I’ll never understand the obsession with ditching Brockers on this forum.

It's because he's a poor fit for this defense. He's not a NT and not a DE. He doesn't have the sand to play NT and lacks the speed to play DE. He's strictly a 3T DT and that's it. Look at his production compared to his cap cost and it's clear why I for one don't see him on the roster next year.

RE: Talib, I've been very vocal in my view that Talib wasn't going to be re-signed either. Like Brockers, his pay vs production didn't warrant it. It's really clear his age is showing and he's not the same ProBowl CB of his earlier days. He was better than Peters but that isn't saying much.

Snead just got a jump on his house cleaning with Talib, and Peters. If his play doesn't improve and I doubt it will, Roby-Coleman is the next target to be released or traded after the season. Troy Hill IMO is on an extended audition. But with Ramsey acquired and David Long waiting, he's a bubble sitter no matter what PFF says. He's a poor man to man CB and is best strictly in zone which is something Wade wants to play less of. Like Nickell, Troy isn't playing like he's being paid. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they are both packaged to be traded to a CB needy team. With Williams on the team I can see them drafting a CB.

I see the o-line getting a major work over next season as well. Havenstein with a $7.8M cap hit will need to move inside to OG or be traded. With a dead cap of $6.1M it's unlikely he will be released outright. Moving him inside would be the logical move. RG is the most likely place as it will be an easier transition due to muscle memory. With Blythe likely not being resigned it would make sense. Rob would be a clear upgrade. After 2020 if Havenstein continues to struggle he can be traded or released.

This would make the OT's next year Noteboom and Edwards. LG would likely be Corbett or Brewster, with Corbett the most likely. The reason I think it's Corbett is because they traded specifically for him for a reason. He's also practicing at that position now. This would make Coleman replacing Demby as the gameday backup which makes sense as Shelton can also play C. Evans IMO will be the swing OT. So next year's o-line probably ends up like this:

LT Noteboom
LG Corbett
C Allen
RG Havenstein
RT Edwards

Gameday backups: Coleman OG/C & Evans swing OT

Is this for another move or just cap relief?

I may not be as impressed by Brockers, but unlike Talib who brought us no dead money CAP hit, the Rams would have a dead money hit of nearly $3.mil on Brockers, so any real savings would have been negligible compared to the relative stability he offers the DLine at this time. jmo.
Roster bonus was paid and the portion of the signing bonus is already accounted for. There's no cap hit for trading Brock. All that would happen is we're off the hook for the rest of his salary which like Talib is what we'd have added to our rollover.

It's all fish and chips wrapping now.

In terms of potential, I've never been more impressed by a practice squad than I have been this season with our very own. Reeder, Kelly & Gervase have already been brought up, KhaDarel Hodge would have been on special teams had Cleveland not snatched him off of waivers, and other than Kolone who I still harbor some reservations, I believe all our remaining practice squad players have a great chance to make the 2020 53 roster. While 2020 later round draft picks and UDFA's will find it increasingly difficult to make our 53 roster, should our scouting department continue to impress, they could easily be in play for 2021 and beyond while learning from practices as well as the practice squad bench. I like this aspect of our future, although a quality key free agent addition would still go a long way to alleviating our more immediate OL concerns. jmo.

Not sure where this "Hill isn't a good man CB" has come from. He's been playing man, alot - and nobody has been racking up yards on him. He's not getting beat deep. He's not really getting beat at all. I see a player that has been coached up continuously to become a legit product of Wade's system. He's going to be around here for a long time.

It comes from watching him play. In man coverage a CB needs a burst coming out of the WR's breaks to prevent separation. It's not just agility that matters. Troy Hill has the agility but he lacks the burst to match a good WR.

He was picked on and at times abused last year when he played in relief of Talib. That is when I noted his problem. It's a reason Wade played so much zone last year.

Hill is actually better in man coverage than in zone coverage. They had to play a lot of zone because Peters is not physical enough to play man. Peters brought down the entire defense .

Meant to say the practice squad here in reference to KhaDarel Hodge, not special teams, ... sorry 'bout that, didn't notice it until after the edit was turned off..

Are you sure you are not a closet Saints fan? Every chance you get you dog NRC. He has had his oops moments but he has been a good to very good DB for the Rams.
