didn't deserve his career to end this way. if he had at least been on a mediocre team he would go HOF. in his prime he was better than Lynch. that guy bled and sweat for this team like no other. anyone who speaks ill of #39 isn't a true Rams fan in my book. he needs to retire a Ram and his jersey hung in the rafters period. this songs on my workout playlist btw (y)

I agree, but the debate is who's number should be retired first if any at all? #81,#13, or #39? Tha'ts a tough debate tbh..

I whole heartedly agree, it's a shame people don't care for him due the fact he was on the worst team in NFL history for 5 years of his career with us. If we had rookie or 2nd year Steven Jackson on the team right now with no Gurley I don't see how we're not a playoff team but he got the chaft being on the shit show we were for so many years, not to mention horrible FO and coaching.

So your telling me he has more yards than HOF'ers ED and MF and he was on a winning team? o_O

I just checked, and although Robinson may have the most wins, his winning % is Only .524%
Knox's Winning % is .778%
Allens is .................. .728%
Martz is ................... .623%

You gotta feel for Jackson he would be in Hof discussions if he were not on those bad teams.Then he goes to Atl where he figured to get plenty of playoff action and they fell apart.He has to feel somewhat snakebitten by his unfortunate run of bad luck.

What a freaking warrior. With all the bad teams we put on the field he was on he could have just played it safe and collected a paycheck. Instead he gave us his all and he will forever have my respect.

For sure. And there are backs in the HOF right now who had done much less than Jackson has done in his career so far.
Being on this team for as long as he was is really going to hurt his chances though.

He may not be a HOF'er, but he's an all-time great for the Rams. Played on some of the worst teams in the history of the NFL and still put up good numbers. If it wasn't for SJ39, Rams would have went 0-16 in 2009. That's a fact.

I really wish he could catch on somewhere this season. He's one really good season away from being Top 10 in yards fron scrimmage all time. It'd be a great accomplishment for the guy, and something for him to hang his hat on.

I think he's a worthy candidate. Look at his numbers compared to Bettis! Shorter career, more yards, half the fumbles and a much more complete player. Plus, Jackson never sold crack or shot at anyone.

I don't know if I make that comparison. Bettis played at 260+ pounds during his career. His durability and productivity was truly distinguished. Like Csonka and Riggins but better than both. He's also got that "son of Pittsburgh" thing in his favor....one of the most celebrated athletes in a city soaked in football tradition.

I look at SJ and I see from 2004-2012 he had more rushing yards and caught more passes than any other RB in the league. Just don't think that's enough. Not enough big games or moments.

I get that they're different players and all, but The Bus rolled for 13 years? And racked up a little over 13K on the ground. Jax has logged 11 and put up 11K. Obviously the receiving yardage bumps Steve over the top. Steve's dealt with some injury issues and has missed quite a few games, but the last two years of Bettis' career he was dinged up often and reduced to goal line and short yardage duty.

I dunno. Of course I'm biased, but the two careers aren't incredibly different in my eyes; other than as you mentioned, Bettis found himself on a better team.

Canton is pushing it, IMO. No AP seasons, no rushing titles, only one season with double digit TDs.

Just Rams players waiting/overlooked for induction, I'm not sure I'd give SJ my vote over any of them.

Meh, this is a moot point because SJ has to wait 5 years after he retires to even become a candidate and by then I fully expect Warner, Pace, Greene, and hopefully Ike to be in the HOF. I'm thinking 10-15 years of eligibility and he gets in tbh.
