The Rams drafted Germaine because Rams HC Dick Vermeil was the color commentator during the Rose Bowl game in 1997 when Ohio State beat Arizona State 20-17 and Germaine was the player of the game. However, from day one Germain looked overwhelmed. Bit different back then as the starters played in preseason, however, when called upon, Germain was wide eyed and seemed like the game was too big for him.

Mike Martz disliked Joe Germaine so much, he made Jamie Martin years later change his number from 9 to 11 because wearing 9, Martin reminded him of Germaine. Germaine played in the 2nd half in 1999 against the Eagles the last game of the year and it was not pretty.

So IMHO, I feel Bennet is like Germaine, I also am concerned about Bennett from the neck up. Seems when he has time to read the defense, it does not end well, whereas, he is better when plays break down. You cannot find any information on Bennet's grades in the classroom and I am not trying to prove Bennett was not born in the US, however, he did not graduate and when you google his GPA or his major at Georgia, you cannot find it. Or I could not.

Haha Jamie Martin. Always remember watching that game in person @ AZ and Martz afterwards stating how Martin held this team hostage. :laugh3:

Comparing Stetson to Germaine?

Come on Den, you have coach in your name and I don't understand how it's failed to be acknowledged Stetson's been away from football for a year and going to take him a while to ramp things back up. He's not a RB or LB, he's a QB which isn't an " Okay I'm here and I'm better than all of you because of my athleticism and a game changer day 1." It takes a while to get back into things as a QB.

Hell Brett Rypien came in at the HOF game and was ripping the Texans 1st/2nd stringers a new ass. Maybe Bennett needs more time?

Literally what does Bennett's grades have to do with anything?
Is it conspiracy you can't find anything about his grades?

Yeah, Bennet hasn't been 1st string since missing a year with personal problems and after one game of throwing 4 pics and winning the game at the last second, I totally agree we should dump him now and not allow the narrative to play out. (should this be in blue?)

Let's take a wait and see approach on this. You could be right, but we don't really know right now.

The good news is that we have a great coach who will figure it out. If McVay sees something, he stays. If not, he goes. McVay can read talent on the offense as well as anyone.

I do not believe Bennett will amount to anything. That said, I hope he does get better. He had a great college career marked by comebacks, overachievements, and championships. You never know with this guy. And regarding his game the other day... in fairness he hasn't played much at all and is still a rookie. He was definitely forcing throws in the middle of the field trying to make a play. That is coachable, in my opinion. His arm seems to be ok and he is mobile. I hope to see more of him throughout the preseason and then I am sure he will be on the practice squad. I am also sure Les is keeping his eyes and ears OPEN for other QBs that might get cut or have not signed yet. One thing is for sure... Bennett is not a QB the Rams can depend on right now, even as #2.

Well, let us see how he plays in the next two games. I would like to be wrong on this, but he seems to lack the skills to process his reads and make decisions. Receivers were open and he threw into the wrong areas. Again, we will see how he responds, but I am not expecting much,

I don't expect the Rams to make any moves at QB at least until we see what happens in the next game and I don't see it happening then either. I don't think they figure the back up will see the field anyway. Granted, if something were to happen, we would be looking at either Bennett or Winn in the first two games.

Bennett looked rough even on some of his completions. Even still, I would like to see a little more before giving up on him.

I want to see Bennett in a regular season game before I pass any judgement. Wait, I don’t want to see Bennett in a regular season game. I do not know this for sure, but you know McVay told him to go out there and wing it. These games do not count, and the Rams got a good look at who they wanted to during it, so I think it worked out.

Hell, Baker Mayfield said that McVay told him to have fun and air it out, and that was during the regular season. Did McVay look concerned at all during any portion of that exhibition? I’m not going to compare Bennett to anyone until there is some regular season film to go off of whenever that happens. If it happens. No rush though.

I think McVay has a soft spot for QB's that remind him of....
Himself
Undersized gamer, who loved to play
Bennett was awful last pre-season as well, at least after his first game which IIRC he threw an early pass that should have been a pick 6 but was dropped.
We'll get to see him play 2 more games, but I'd be shocked if there's any improvement. It's 1 thing to throw picks when youre forcing in to tight windows, his INT (not to mention the gift that was called back) are just terrible passes

Last year, Stetson was the lowest-graded QB in the entire NFL in the 2023 preseason, with a dismal rating of 29.5. This preseason so far, he is again one of the lowest rated QB's in the league with a rating of 39.2.

Last year, he was graded poorly for bad decision-making and staring down receivers, leading to turnovers. Same story so far this year.

I must have missed the part that @den-the-coach said to cut him.

I see the same things with Bennett. He doesn't read the field well. He stares down his receivers. He seems slow to process on the field. He did great improvising at the end but Foristall and the Cowboys defense bailed him out to some degree. If he saw it quickly enough and threw the ball, he had Scott open right away.

Bennett reminds me of countless QBs before him, both for the Rams and other franchises, that were good college QBs but simply not cut out to be starting-level NFL QBs. I don't think it is any deeper than that.

Hopefully, he proves me wrong, and we found a steal in the draft. He does flash nice traits at times. Including last pre-season game, despite his several awful interceptions.

Keep in mind Bennett was away from football for over 1 year. That is not an excuse for some of those throws. But one would expect him to continue improving as he gets re-acquainted with game speed and live bullets.

Stetson’s 2022 season bio at the school’s website indicated he was majoring in Learning Design and Technology.

Reports since the weekend have speculated that Bennett did not graduate with even a simple BA from Georgia after six years of post-secondary study — five at Georgia, one at the community college.

Den is onto something…. Bennett may be the first QB to score a negative on the wonderlic test.
