Rams Sign Dresser Winn to back Up Stafford

Though it may appear to be merely window dressing the Rams went all in and signed QB Dresser Winn to the practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Winn went undrafted and was signed by the Rams in the offseason and then released before the regular season.

Rams' General Manager Les Snead and Head Coach Sean McVay have been searching for a backup QB in case Stafford can't play against the Packers this weekend. They have also spoken with former Browns QB Tim Couch about unretiring in case they need him. Couch, who hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL since 2003, has been reportedly playing pickup basketball to stay in shape. The Rams also may be signing former Ram David Rocker and Bear Refrigerator Perry for more defensive line rotation and Todd Lyght to replace the ineffective Derion Kendrick. CB Larry Loveseat, who had been in the Cardinals' camp, is also being considered.

So the Rams have apparently been busy rearranging the furniture since Stafford's thumb injury vs the Cowboys as they try to halt a 2-game losing streak. Dresser may not dress for Sunday's game if Stafford is active and in uniform but it remains a game time decision as the Rams try to skirt a 3rd loss in a row.

HE went to the run game against Arizona or his PLAYERS insisted on it at Halftime??? Damning if true.

Well if true & that ZERO Play Call against Pittsburgh!!!!!!! That was definitely not the look you want after what The Rams did the week before at HOME against The Cardinals. ESPECIALLY because Kyren WILLIAMS was hurt. Then basically you’re saying you’re afraid to RUN the BALL,or to ARROGANT to say Stop me from PASSING !! Mcvay admits he was WRONG,but also gives AJ Watt credit.

LEADING at HALF with Sean Mcvay(RAMS) was a VICTORY!! That has changed.

I’d agree with Raheem to an extent. He needs to be better closing games & halfs.Especially with The LEAD! That might to the DECLINE under Mcvay & The 2nd HALF ?

My thing is going 12 PERSONNEL!! What I saw with Brycen Hopkins in TRAINING CAMP was UNBELIEVABLE?? He was HOT!! He looked BETTER than Higbee.Seeing BEN SKO’s TD proves those training camp REPS & TIMING WORKS!!!

I just think Sean Mcvay has gone away from The Basics of what he knows. He is about running the same play the same way to PERFECTION during the Season! That’s to a fault of No Matter What ?
—You can see it & it’s sort of SAD!! I saw a STAT that STOOD OUT!! Not a True Stat guy ,but it was Copper Kupp’s pass TARGETS vs.COMPLETIONS!!

That STAT shows me all I need to know about the play calling.I can get into it more but sticking to the TOPIC!!

Matthew Stafford should not be put into situations that he has to create or read routes as much as The Rams do. Go back to 2021 when The Rams won the Superbowl. Stafford had 3 picks 6 games with The Rams lossing in a row.
—The Rams got lucky & they can thank The 49ers as well.If The Rams don’t lose to the NINER’s at SOFI they don’t win The Superbowl!! They actually should have still lost.

I drink the KOOL-AIDE but try to be a realist. This Green Bay game is The Rams season(playoffs)as we know it! The bye week is here & Stafford need the time off.

Mcvay knows he needs to pick up a QB.

There it is & (Mcvay)he said he was going to add a QB.I don’t know what this is it looks like.

I do know I thought AidenO’Connel was the better choice at QB that Bennett.

—The Rams make these statements like WE KNOW what WE’RE doing.

I’m not bagging on THE RAMS,just showing frustration on what I think as a MONDAY Morning QB.

True, Mcvay has won in different ways.

But right now I think he is in a funk. A stubborn funk of using too many drop back long developing routes. Not alot of use of TE, RB and PA pass. I think he should have a ton of short passes on the menu and bring back the WR screens and jet sweeps.

Stafford should normally be getting the ball out under 3 seconds but often is stuck back there waiting too long for routes to develop, especially on third down.

I agree with NYCRam that Mcvay seems to get stuck into predictable and ineffective personell groupings and plays and then when the defense defends it, he doesn't adapt much. He did go to the heavy run game vs the Cards, so there is one example where he does adapt, but generally he seems to get stuck in stubborn mode more then other play callers.

Sadly, Raheem is the exact same way. Very predictable to the detriment of the defense.
If you watch old games, you see a lot more under center action.

I think part of the issues are the o-line is not trustworthy and Stafford feeling better in shotgun.

Sean is not this dumb..so there must be another explanation...if you figure out what it is...let us all know....putting his aging QB into ridiculous danger when his running back is averaging 4.9 yards per carry, but only has 9 carry's. Why Henderson got more attempts while averaging 2.7 yards per carry is elementary coaching...why use the more ineffective back? Catching ability vs Freeman? Then why more rushing attempts? Sean is hard on QB's and RB's in the inconsistent ways he uses them....it has to be frustrating for the players. Let's not open the can of worms that is Wolford not wanting to come back.

He already has explained this and has always explained it after every game where we didn't run the ball as much.

It's about what the defense is doing.

And if you think about it, you are game planning for an entire week to do xyz when the defense does abc - our best players belong to the passing game, too.

We have had a TON of games under McVay where we've won by passing the ball more. We've had several where we've lost. Nobody ever asks him about running the ball more when we won by passing. And in a lot of cases (Cincy game comes to mind), it's just a lack of execution by the players more than anything. It happens.

It's probably not easy to scrap an entire game plan to "run the ball more". That's an overly simplistic view that fans get to have.

And totally unnecessary. That's a "trick" 2 point play. Should only be used with under a minute left trailing by 1. Sometimes I wonder about Mcvay's feel for the game.

yeah, it's a definite oversimplification.

Stafford can audible to whatever he wants - what the original play call is we don't know.

People been watching football this long and think McVay calls one play and Stafford runs it.

That's not how it works.

Agreed. It was beyond stupid. And on a 2 point conversion to top it off. In what world is a 1 point spread vs. kicking the extra point worth risking your QB's health in a meaningless game? It's not like this was the Super Bowl or the NFC Final. Or even a late regular season game that seeding absolutely depended on. Scheme it up for someone else. It was a fluke injury and every snap carries risk, yes, but come on...

Stafford wouldn't have been injured if it was a better throw from Tutu.

I sure wish Creed Humphrey would have thrown that ball!!

I think Mcvay and Stafford are both trying too hard. Forcing things when they aren't there.

I'm sure they've had that in the plan since the start of the season. It's a play you want to call when you need it to tie the game or go ahead, not when converting still has you down by a couple scores. Inexplicable really.
