McVay has coached his ass off the last 2 years, but will the NFL recognize it? Both years he and his coaching staff have developed rookies and 2nd year players into good/ great players.
*Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske and Jared Verse have replaced AD, which I never thought possible in Preseason.
* The secondary got shredded by the Bills, but what team's secondary holds up against Josh Allen? But mostly they have improved
*Puka Nacua, 'nuff said.
* 7-2 after a 1-4 start, with wins against playoff bound teams

***Sean McVay COY.

I would say yes, but also have to admit that Tomlin and OConnel have exceded expectations. Certainly didnt foresee Minnesota sitting at 11-2 with Darnold as starting QB

O'Connell is coach of the year for me. Dan Quinn getting that Commodes squad to 9-5 with a rookie QB is impressive too. Mike Tomlin with a combo of Fields and Wilson? Incredible job.

Sean does a great job too and I wouldn't swap him for anyone but there are 3 at least off the top of my head who have a better chance this year imo.

As long as it isn't Dan "go for onside kick with 12 minutes to go" Campbell because he wants to be ballsy and stupid. But McVay does deserve it but so do several other candidates as detailed above by @ScotsRam. Next three weeks are extremely important for all of the coach of the year possibilities.

Some damn stiff competition this year.

As others have said Tomlin and O’ Connell have done a hell of a job this year.

As much I admire what McVay has done I might give the nod to one of them. But also depends what happens in the playoffs to and these aren’t voted on until the week or two before the SB weekend right?

I believe the votes are cast right after regular season, but not announced until the off week prior to SB

But I have been wrong before

If I had a vote for COY then Coach McVay would have it. Nobody has endured more hardship this season than him on the injury front. I felt last season that it might have been his best coaching job. This year is the same, because it comes in the face of the injuries plus losing a future HoF on defense.

It's a shame they didn't do a little bit more with the secondary. But who knows, maybe they get lucky with Forbes and this bunch start playing mediocre in coverage. That would be enough for a nice run.

Accolades aside McVay & staff have done a tremendous job this season. Shula and the defense seem to be getting better without any real stars........YET. The d-line as a whole have been excellent as a group, with different players standing out weekly.

The offense has learned to win with both the pass & run while seldom having the #1 O line & WR options available

In my opinion this has been McVay's most complete year

I'd throw in McDermott as well. Ppl were saying the Bills were going to be shit because they had no WRs entering week 1, yet they are still a top team in the league.

He is doing a great job but it is no coincidence the Rams started to get better as they started getting bodies back. That alone likely precludes him from winning. The award has realistically been given to the coach whose team exceeds expectations the most relatively to what their roster on paper was predicted to do. The Rams, hopefully, will win the division, but if they do, it will not be running away. So pretty much in line with what one would have expected "on paper".

I'd honestly go Andy Reid. That roster is nothing special, though obviously it is more than capable. To have that team be so good, situationally, all the time, on both sides of the football, is largely coaching IMO. Even if you have Mahomes. Their record in 1 score games defies NFL reality.

Just throwing this out there:
Part of a HC's job is coaching the other coaches. Reid has Spags and KOC has Flores. Spags and Flores have both been HCs and have called winning SB defenses. McVay has first-time DC Shula coaching a unit in transition after losing one of the greatest players in history.

I’m going to be booed off the stage here, but I would say he doesn’t deserve it.

We’ve lost at least two games through his “pass first, regret later” philosophy. If he used the running game more, we would have had the division sewn up by now.

A coach’s job is to win games.

Start booing… but don’t pretend you’re saying “Boo-urns”.

I'll take that hill with ya. As great as he is, he has almost single handedly been responsible for 2 losses this year. Argue with a treadmill.
