I have a bottle of Starward in my collection. Haven't opened it yet but its on the list.

I enjoy bourbon, though I’m no connoisseur.
I have no problem using Jim Beam in my Old Fashioned.

I’ve never developed a taste for Scotch. The peat throws me off a bit.
Not all Scotch is peaty. The Dalmore is a great example that drinks closer to an American whisky.

@ScotsRam help me out here. Is it normally by the region where Scotch has certain flavor profiles?

Had a few from Dalmore and really enjoyed them. Also picked up a few bottles can't recall what exactly they were but one was a Glenn Fiddich that was very good.

Recently had my first Rye Bourbon that I really enjoyed a Whistlepig 12 year it was excellent. It seems once you get a rye in the 12 year area it removes some of the bite that I don't like in the ryes.

I saw some of his posts, mentioning non-peat Scotch.
It definitely peaked my interest.

There are exceptions, but generally speaking yes. Pick up a Speyside (e.g. Macallan), a Lowland (e.g. Glengoyne) or a Highland (e.g. Dalmore) and there will be no peat at all.

Dalmore is near where I grew up and was what first got me hooked on whisky. My taste has developed over time though and I wouldn't thank you for one now.

My son turned me on to this stuff recently. It's a new brand from the creator of Whistlepig (Raj Peter Bhakta, who is no longer affiliated with them). Good stuff at a reasonable price point of around $50.

So I picked up these tonight. I know what I think of them. I’d like to know what you others think/know/like/dislike.

Whoa boy. Those are big, smoky, peaty bastards. You'll either love them or hate them!

Ardbeg are well known for really pushing the boat out in terms of innovation and particularly levels of peat and smoke that they use. I can't say its to my taste, but people who like that style tend to love ardbeg. Laphroaig a more traditional approach to the same subject and again have legions of fans and just as many people who hate it.

I've been to both distilleries, they're literally a fifteen minute walk apart on the Islay coast. That was a hell of a day out. Lagavulin is ten minytes further down, they call it the malt mile and you visit all three as you walk down the coast. Its beautiful. I'll see if i can dig out a picture from our trip.

Do you like them?

Yeah, I can't do those, haha. Those sucker's taste like a bonfire!!! I got free bottles of the Laphroaig and Buffalo Trace for a virtual whiskey tasting during Covid. Some of my vendors held those to try and sell us stuff, haha. I had to give it to my bro in law..... Who gave it to his father after he couldn't drink it, haha. Not sure where it went from there...

Can't wait to see what you think of it. As @ScotsRam said, you will love or hate it. It tasted like a fireman's boot to me.
