Do not fucking replace him with Joe Barry. Anybody who thinks Barry is a strong replacement candidate is a moron. Barry has been a NFL DC for four years in his career. Here's how his defenses fared:
32nd in PPG and YPG
32nd in PPG and YPG
17th in PPG and 28th in YPG
19th in PPG and 28th in YPG

I have rarely questioned McVay. I think the world of him. He has earned my benefit of the doubt. But if he promoted Barry to DC, he would lose that BOTD. We can and must do so much better than Joe Barry if we're placing Wade.

yeah, the thought of Barry doesn’t excite me at all. If they went in house I’d give Aubrey Pleasant a chance over anyone else. My wish would be Ron Rivera but I’m sure he’ll be a head coach next year.

McSlay and Snead don't let their plans leave the building.

Wade may be retiring... but I highly doubt that this rumor is anything more than a guess. Pure speculation. Especially the part about a replacement for Wade before he's even announced anything about his future.

John Pagano the guy that taught Wade the 3-4 scheme he still uses. He's an outstanding DC who makes incredible half time adjustments that shut teams down. I've seen it in multiple games. When Wade went to Houston from San Diego, he tried to take John with him as his DC. The Chargers refused to allow him to take John who was a LB coach. He also taught Rivera as well.

Yeah the Barry part is worded where I think it's just the guy building off the rumor of Wade retiring and giving his guess that Barry would be a candidate. And I'd agree because McVay is the kind of guy who I'd think would give most of his current staff the opportunity to interview for it but doesn't mean anyone will get it.

Rams haven't been able to hold a good team together since the 70s. If they replace Wade with Barry this will be McVay's "learning" job and he'll end up fired and pull a Belichick somewhere else.

Good times.

Reactions: Ramlock
Yeah, I'm just going to hope it's someone going public with contract negotiations. Someone wanted to leak something and Marvez was a useful tool.

Maybe something like Wade's reps being frustrated that the Rams want to wait to talk extension, or vice versa or something. Who knows? But yeah, that Joe Barry part . . . ugh

Wouldn't be shocked or upset of Wade hung it up after the season. I would like to get rid of the 3-4 personally and get someone in here that can actually make half time adjustments. Yes, or defense statistically is doing well this year, however, when we face tough teams we never make the right adjustments. Also, we should be statistically one of the better teams with Donald and Ramsey on our team.

Let’s not lose our heads over Barry.
If Wade retires there will A-list names lining up to coach the future HOF’s — #99 and Jalen Ramsey.

We have a lot nice young talent, add more in the draft, and we attract free agents, it’s gonna be a really attractive job.

One thing is for sure - we need an infusion of coaching genius into this team. We have been hemorrhaging talent for a few years, especially on the offensive side.

At least this not-so-great season stopped the bleeding and we’ll get to keep some of our best coaching talent here, while at the same time providing an opportunity to bring in some big-time coaching talent On offense and defense.

I don't know if the Rams can make another change from the 3-4 back to the 4-3. As it stands now I wonder how the Rams replace Brockers and free agents Fowler and Littleton if not resigned. They have been adding 3-4 type Lbers.

I have no idea what Joe Barry's defense philosophy is. He has either been a Lber coach or defensive coordinator. Both Detriot and Washington haven't been good at much of anything forever. Should Wade leave you have to think Barry would be the top candidate. McVay may have a hard time passing him by for someone else.

I would like to no more about Barry's coaching philosophy. Either way, I am concerned about the Rams defensive future,

Ditto. It would be very difficult to go back to a 4-3 now with guys like Obo, Ebukam, etc., and it would take a couple of years to make the full transition. Meanwhile, we would suffer during said transition. There is no inherent advantage of one over the other with respect to the 3-4 and the 4-3, both have their strengths and their weaknesses. Right now, with the players we know are returning next year, our personnel is suited for a 3-4 but not a 4-3. Meanwhile, we don't have a first round pick and will not have a ton of cap space to play with. It's best just to stick with the 3-4 and try to build that with some of the draft picks we do have, look for gems in the UDFA market, and maybe get a mid-tier FA or two. And if we have to get a new DC, get a 3-4 guy who will work with the core guys we have.

IMO Marvez is guessing he does not realize that Joe Barry was an epic fail as a DC & as an Assistant HC that is where Barry is staying... Aubrey Pleasant is possible or a college DC as well

Yeah, I think he was just throwing a name out there, and a pretty obvious one. Part of the reason Barry is here is because he got fired in DC and his track record there was pretty bad. Let someone else give him a second chance at DC, we need a guy who is either proven or has at least shown potential to be a good DC. Barry falls into neither of those categories.
