Didn't watch it recently but back then yeah I watched it most everybody then did.

Well they likely are the best at what they do and maybe their money hasn't gone up much when the rest of the league is lining their pockets.
However - they have no real leverage at this point. No one else is really going to be on their side because of the nature of their profession.
The only thing they can hope is replacement refs come in and fuck it up all to hell.
Otherwise, they are likely screwing themselves.

With everyone around them being millionaires.. the refs need to be paid more. Not because they deserve it.. but with legal gambling they need to remove the temptation to influence games.

Most refs are already lawyers or other high profile professions as their regular jobs. I don't think any of the refs are not "rich" by the average joes standards. I think if a ref has a gambling problem a few hundred grand more isn't going to tempt them from their disease.
I just want better training and the NFL to uncomplicate their rule book. If the refs want to be paid so much more than I would require them to make it their full time jobs during the season with dedicated trainings between their weekly games to go over film and through offseason on rule changes and cleaning up stuff.

Yes, I do, dieter. They were horrible, but these guys have nothing going for them. They do not have the leverage in this new deal. It's not the fact that we will have "replacement" refs, the refs we have now do not want the "eye in the sky" looking over their shoulders. If the NFL implements this after a holdout, it will be here to stay.
The NFL should give the Rams a formal apology for the Sewahags game. Maybe that would wake up these refs.
I care. No problem is insurmountable, even horrible NFL refereeing. If MLB can fix blind umpiring (yes, I love the new ABS and always hated biased umps), then this can be solved.
My suggestion: like the MLB ABS, you get 2 challenges. If you're right, you keep it. If wrong, you lose 1. If it takes more than 2 seconds to decide, you LOST. This system is for OBVIOUS mistakes.
So remember that ultra-critical amazing catch that Puka made against the Hawks that took like 40 minutes to find 1 frame of the ball moving as he landed?? That's gone. 2 seconds in, they uphold the completion and say "Play stands. No obvious error." or something similar.

The NFL Officials are terrible. Thank God for the NBA Referees, with all the traveling they let happen, it really lets the NFL Refs off the hook as the shittiest officials in professional sports.
The fact that the NFL has stats on different crews and there is absolutely no consistency is crazy to me. If you own 18 McDonald's, you would expect them MFs to all make the the fries the same. Allowing some official teams to be hard on holding, while others may let it slide more often is just one example of many. Each crew has tendencies and I don't think that's right.
I don't care if you want to call holding more often or have a "let them play" mentality...just pick a fucking side and roll with it.
Then, once they can prove that they're capable of consistency, THEN you talk about getting a raise. Being shit at your job year in and year out shouldn't be awarded with more and better incentives.

Agreed. Make them full time and teach them the finer points of the rule book and how to consistently call the games. The lack of consistency is becoming a distraction.
I'm old enough to remember when replay started. The "rule" was the ref had 30 seconds to get under the cape and review the tape; if nothing conclusive could be determined in 30 seconds, the call on the field stood. But with the advent of HD and better cameras, along with 55" TVs, every fan can see it too, and often in less than 30 seconds. BUT - the NFL saw dollar signs and decided to include commercials while the review was going on, along with building some tension for "the reveal". So the league is making money off reviews now. And don't get me started about the commercial time allotted to injuries now. Bottom line is while the refs can be horrible at times they are still the best in their field. Give them their bump BUT call bullshit on seniority determining playoffs and them not accepting more training.
Unfortunately just bringing in new bodies has been shown to not work well in the past. Where would they come from? College Division 1 and 2 refs aren't going to scab. They would basically slit their own professional throats if they have NFL aspirations. Division 3 and High school refs maybe, but the quality will be crap. The refs union knows all this which is why they have, I believe, more leverage in the collective bargaining.
