Just heard Michel was cut by Fins.

If he doesn’t land somewhere as starter, I would love to have him here again to boost RB room.

Wow. Sony had 208 carries for 845 yards for us last year, a 4.1 average. For many games he not only felt like our best runner-- it seemed like we found our identity with him.

Just strange to me that Michel seems to have so little value, given how often he carried the Rams on his back in 2021.

Jake Funk or Sony Michel? No contest. Yeah Funk is good on ST, but purely as a RB.....?

Totally agree with you and @XXXIVwin , if the price is right he immediately improves our backfield.

Have to disagree here, and I really like Sony Michel; and greatly appreciate what he did for the Rams.

His blitz pick-up on Al-Shaair, on the third-down-pass to Kupp to set-up the go-ahead FG was huge.

Michel would be the 4th-RB on this roster and because he does not play STs, he would not even dress.

Terrific insurance in case of injury but that's not the way McVay builds a roster He sets the roster to help him win games. If the Rams carry four RBs, it will be Funk; and it will be because of his STs' contribution.

Agreed. If the financials work, I'd bring Michel back and cut Funk. Funk has not shown much to my eye. We can find someone else to take Funk's spot on special teams. I would not say Funk's special teams contributions have been anything spectuacular.

Sony provides tough running and the ability to plough through opposing defenders for short yardage. At least last year, Akers and Hendo seemed incapable of doing that. I am optimistic that Akers will be better this year with more time to heal from his achilles injury. But still. Sony carried our offense last year at times. He was highly effective. He is a vet that knows how to win. His pass protection and blitz diagnosis are both very good (remember the .gif of him flying through the air to protect Stafford, I think against Tampa Bay?). He would be a definite asset to the team.

Of course, who knows if Michel even wants to come back. The Rams might well not be able to pay what he is seeking. Moreover, once Akers returned to the lineup, Sony was immediately getting almost 0 snaps, which was pretty perplexing, given how well Michel played for the team, and the fact that Akers was coming off a serious injury and at times having trouble getting going. I am not saying that Cam should not have returned to his RB1 role. But the fact that Michel was immediately all but benched, despite how well he played, and being the only RB to stay healthy for the season, when Cam and Hendo weren't providing anything special, might well have left him feeling disrespected.

Mixed on this one. I'd welcome him back, but I realize his pass catching game is his weakness and McVay likes backs that are also a receiving threat. That's not to say he couldn't excel on screens, but that still would be less than a well-rounded contribution. The vet price may also be a negative. The faith McVay has in rookie KR keeps Michel off the roster. If KR makes 1 or 2 plays vs Bills when he's in, McVay could have instant verification for not bringing Sony back.

If the price is right it's a no brainer, as long as his skills haven't diminished in the last 8 months. We've seen Cam and Daryll's injury history so I think we need a solid 3rd RB.

Some brains work different I guess.

You know IMO he doesn’t have a chance of being a Ram unless there is an injury to either RB.

What do you know or have seen from Williams? Talk about younger & more explosive.

I saw a lot of faults in Sony’s game. The fact he got cut has to tell the average fan there is something wrong with his game.If The Rams weren’t in some much need last season,NE would have been forced to cut Sony? Here we are a year later & there is Sony.

How many time have any of us seen Funk working with the 1s? Any of our training camp Ramily have a take on that?

Sony was a great add last year but, they let him walk for a reason I doubt they push to get him back.

I am in the camp that sees the Sony ship for the Rams has sailed.

He was a huge fill in last year but the ‘22 Rams are in an entirely different situation than when Sony came onboard last year.

Akers is not out for the year this year and KW has been added.

All 3 of our top RB’s are great pass receivers and I think McVay intends to take full advantage of that. That’s not a Sony strong suit.

If, heaven forbid, our RB corps is once again struck with injuries then Snead can always get an experienced vet to bring in. That position is the easiest to fill in the league.

So I just don’t see the need for a semi-pricey Sony at this time.

Michel only makes sense if the Rams plan to move on from Henderson or Akers. If McVay is good with Akers and Henderson then Michel makes zero sense.

I agree. Michel saved us last year when we had RB problems. This time they wouldn't have to give up a pick for him.

Why would we want Michel. He is another try hard, max effort guy with limited overall ability. There are numerous guys who are being cut from other teams who can do what he can do and more. Same with my least favorite player(s) Funk/Evans. I love the effort from Michel, but between his injuries and his libations, why do we want to keep going backwards when there are several players out there that can move us forward.?? Don’t get so sentimental

I don't see the benefit of signing Michel at this point. Funk is a good special teams performer, and he's cheap.

For the record I appreciate greatly the contributions Sony Michel made for the Rams last year. But having said that it is significant to me that a HC like McDaniel who is thoroughly versed in the Shanahan running game cuts a RB like Michel anyway.

I dunno what is missing in Sony's game but that makes 3 teams in about a year now that have moved on from him.

Sony would be arguably the #1 RB on the team as it pertains to availability/production. (Clearly Akers ceiling is much higher)
That said, there's no reason to pick him up as he would have no role on the team. Kills me to say that since I'm as big a fan of his as there is.
Who knows, he might even be available for the PS, I think they can pay a vet 20k a game.
Hear me out, it is a little strange that Miami cut him since 850k of his contract is guaranteed. So he can pick up the 300k+ he loses by being the emergency backup RB on the Rams PS
That would be awesome

Dilemma. We all see how dynamic Hendo can be when healthy. We also see how powerful Akers can be when healthy. Rams appear to be all in this year for these 2. However I believe one of them will fall and Michel adds good depth. Also unless Hendo explodes this year he is likely gone next year.

no one is signing Sony until after wk 1, he's not worth the $ before wk 1 etc

This.

I believe Sony had a near vet minimum with the Fins didnt he?

I like our top 3 RB’s but not their health history and I’m sure Hendo will go down sooner or later before the middle of the year.

Michel is priceless as a 3rd down back and picking up blitz pickups which the other 3 struggle with at times historically.

I wouldn’t mind replacing Funk with him after week 1.

Maybe if they keep both Roseboom and Hummel they could move on from Funk since an extra LB is available for STs.
