I've liked what I've seen from Whittington when he's been given the opportunity. He just doesn't get many.
Seems a little stiff running his routes, keep in mind he was a running back in high school, in addition to, even though his 40 time was strong (4.47) his acceleration and top-end speed are checkered at best. I look at Whittington as an option for jet sweeps and bootlegs more than a primary or even secondary option in the passing game.

Your top 5 could be adequate. I like Whit but his value is on ST. Daniels could contribute but not likely until late in the year or next year. The minute Nacua or DAdams become unavailable there’s a problem.
The key word there is "or". What happened last year when we were missing one of them? 13 P and fantastic success. With that TE room, is it really a problem? The offense averaged 33 PPG the 4 weeks combined, those two guys missed. The TE production?

Week 7 (Puka out): 8 rec; 101 yds; 1 TD / Rams 35 Jax 7 (Davante 5- 35 yds- 3 TD)
Week 16 (Adams out): 7 rec; 78 yds; 1 TD / Rams 37 Seattle 38 (Puka 10-76- 1 TD)
Week 17 (Adams out): 8 rec; 107 yds; 1 TD / Rams 24 Atlanta 27 (Puka 5-47- 1 TD)
Week 18 (Adams out): 9 rec; 127 yds; 3 TD / Rams 37 Arizona 20 (Puka 12-225- 2 TD)

That's some damn good TE production (and #1 WR production). It isn't Travis Kelce but a combo of 4, soon to be 5.

32 rec; 413 yds; 5 TD
Per game average 8-103-1+ TD / 33 PPG

That was knock on him before the draft. He’s a boundary WR which I am not sure works in our scheme, as we have so many crossing routes.
Thomas has the ability to do everything you want outside the hash, but he's one of those guys who lacks the right mentality and focus to sustain it. Talent alone is not enough at this level. You need to be a pro as it pertains to the discipline and dedication as well if you want to be great.

Maybe he'll realize that and get his mind right at some point. But I don't think dudes like that are fits for McVay.
